You guys are so RAD!
Absolutely adore GusGus! He's such a handsome boy
Bethany Nixon Handsome boi*
He is ma boi
He’s a dog, not a cat
@@Salmon_Lamb0 I think I saw your on an app called animestack
You should make a reptile documentary.
Paranoid Shut-in I second this. 😂
We need a Jeweled Lacerta video asap!!!! Please... lol
Yes
It happened my dudes
My first lizard was a jeweled lacerta and she is so amazing. She loves being handled and was so fun to watch eat. I love her!!
I was pleasantly surprised to see you cover the jeweled lacerta! I've wanted a tegu for a long time, but I can't feasibly own one right now. This was a very good video, thank you!
I like tegus, becuase are chubby looking, which adds to the cute factor, pretty friendly to their owners if socialized and handled properly, cool looking(similar to monitors) and can be fed a very wide assortment of foods and iguanas look like dragons, are quite friendly to their owners outside of mating season and are pretty smart however they are quite expensive
chookai same man. This was a great video
They really are just like mini tegus! I have the melanistic morph which is even more tegu-like. I find that their eating response is more like a monitor tho, which I love. Clint was definitely right about jewelled lacertas being one of the greatest pet lizards around.
When I was very young I was gifted a Rainbow Lacerta for my 7th birthday. It’s probably one of the most beautiful lizards available commercially. The back is a similar verdant green with multicolor stripes (cream, orange, red, blue, purple) running the length of it’s body. With my older brother’s help I raised it from a juvenile for 5 years. One winter a storm knocked out the electric and we lost all but the most cold tolerant animals. They are very monitor-like in their behavior (though much smaller) and for such an attractive lizard I’ve only very rarely ever seen them available in the pet trade.
I just recently (like 4 days ago) got a jeweled lacerta and lemme tell you... I love him. So much. Even after 4 days I'm already able to pet him and give him chin scratches. He comes out whenever he hears my voice now! LOVE HIM.
How is he 2 years later?
@@toff1568 He's actually a lot different now. He suddenly became very territorial out of nowhere and tries to bite whatever invades his space. Once I take him out though he's super chill and sleeps on you and wants to stay out to be with you. I have no idea what changed him, it was extremely sudden. I still love him deeply
This video is awesome! It's rare to see a good breakdown for a Jeweled Lacerta and to have a comparison against the blue tongue is the cherry on top. It's going to be hard to figure out which one I want to bring into my home when I'm ready for a new reptile!
Clint you are one of the most inspirational people in the reptile community . love your channel
Wanted to reply after having both lizard species for more than a year after researching and watching some of Clint's videos with my wife, we both love tegus but didn't want to go as hefty. I picked up a baby melanistic jeweled lacerta (captive bred locally) and my wife got a baby merauke indonesian blue tongued skink (captive bred locally). Both are doing great and are super friendly can't go wrong with either. Chose your specific lizard by personality if you have various to choose from as we did. Side note mine warmed up to me faster than my wife's did to her but now both are like RIDICULOUSLY friendly and want to be on the couch with us more than their enclosures (especially the merauke). They have all their toes and the tips of their tails. THANKS CLINT!!!
I have a northern blue tongue skink and it's hands down the best lizard I've ever interacted with.
I’m so excited for the jeweled lacerta video and the new five best lizards!!!!!
This dude deserves waaaaaay more subscribers
Hi Clint, I’m relatively new to this channel (just woke up and found it in my recommended feed this morning) and I absolutely love your videos and variety of series. I’m a bearded dragon owner btw. Had him for 7 years now. I just had a great idea though. What about new series called “how to train your dragon” where you take a reptile and go really in-depth on everyday care for it. I’m aware you do a review on a reptile and rate it and go over it’s care/available/expense and whatnot but that’s professional. This would be a more personalized experience where we could see the reptiles enclosure and learn and see what we should do to set up their space, see it’s size, see the bulbs, learn how to prepare their food, and get more of a sense of not only the reptiles personality and everyday life style, but also your own. I showed your tegu video to my girlfriend and she told me you didn’t have much personality (I disagree) but I could see how cause you tend to be purely educational in a classroom sort of set up. I actually think some of your best stuff is in those bloopers and this series could be a more relaxed setting for people to sit back at and enjoy. I’m sure there would be plenty of bloopers to go along too.
Like this comment if you want to see more of Clint’s personality and so he can see!
Ben Saxe that’s a good idea
Jeweled lecerta looks so cool I never knew about them now I want one
Yes, PLEASE do a video on the lacerta!! I was lucky to pick up a very spritely healthy CB baby girl at a show (I'd never heard of lacertas.. but she crawled up my arm and hid in my jacket and she was mine, forever) and have been scratching my head on the finer details of their care. Primarily insectivore, mild humidity, need UV, mildly hot temps, burrowers, dirt not sand, more terrestrial than arboreal, flighty but workable.. that's about all I've been able to find so far. There's a serious need for an in depth care guide for these beautiful babies!! Subbing to wait for it :) Thanks for the great work!
Even if I'm not planning in having a lizard in the near future, watching your videos is so relaxing in a way
I was one of those people who didn't know Jeweled Lacertas existed and wow they're so amazing! Ahhh
That's the most beautiful jeweled Lacerta I've ever seen
I didn't know about the jeweled lacerta. What a beautiful species! Their colors and markings are gorgeous! Like a proper jewel ^^
It stinkin’ pleases me to no end that Awesomeness is the first category! 😉
great vid clint!! love BT's really wanna get one or TWO!!
I just got a Indonesian blue tongue skink and I’m so glad I did thank for all the care guides and advice!
THANK YOU for promoting Captive Bred!
Northern BTS are amazing and I don't care for the influx of IndoChine BTS.
Pure Australian ALL the way!
I thought I pressed the wrong video when I saw the intro
I just bought a blue tongued skink! I've wanted one since i was 14 and a family owned pet store started selling captive bred babies 💕 My excitement cant be contained 💕💕💕💕
The jeweled lacerta is one of the most beautiful lizards I've ever seen. Such a gorgeous creature!
Jeweled lacerta is beautiful,,never seen one before.
Another great video Clint👍
I just want to add to this. Clint does not give you the whole story on the temperament of the Jewelled Lacertas. 80% of JLs are super flighty and are absolutely terrified of being handled, they will spit, they will bite and they are strong. It takes ALOT to get them to be handleable- I'm talking months if not years of work to get them tame. Sometimes you'll get lucky and get a chill one that came from a good breeder. You can lose their trust very easily and it is VERY hard to earn their trust back. If you can get through all of that, you'll have something more like the JL in this video, if you can't you'll have a JL that you can never take out of your viv without it running away for it's life (they're very dramatic). This isn't to put anyone off, it's just some info I wanted to share. They're still wonderful pets! Love you Clint and love your videos!
The bloopers are always so funny!!
Blue tongue slink. I'm getting a set up ready for one. I'm very excited!!😊
wow, thank you so much for this video, I've been wanting a pet lizard for a long time now. been saving up for a blue tongue skink, but the Jeweled Lacerta seems amazing, and I had never even heard of them before! definitely going to go out and do more research on them!
I like the jeweled lacerta. Definitely going to be researching them
jeweled lacerta ??? first time iv seen or even heard of this before , it looks soooooo kool , how have i not seen this , omg , thats something im gona be keeping an eye out for xx thanks clint
Thanks to your awesome videos, I decided to get a blue tongue skink. It's arriving Tuesday!!
Clint’s voice is soothing
Never heard but lacerta before bot now I want one. Absolutely beautiful
I love you Clint you're so informational and I adore learning about reptiles. I would love it if you did a frilled dragon video ☺
Thanks for the new vids!
Of course!
I've been binge-watching your videos for the last couple weeks. Awesome stuff, mate. Very informative for new and existing reptile owners. I especially loved the vid you did on the uromastyx (really hoping I spelled that right, lol). Had never heard of the species before, and given how hot and dry my neck of the woods is, it'll likely be my next pet lizard, though the blue-tongue definitely has a lot of personality I like.
I also like how the skink is basically ignoring you in the bloopers.
Clint: Stay
Skink: No
Clint: Stay
Skink: You can't tell me what to do. You're not my real Dad.
The best way to immediately trigger a 'like' from me is to have Gus Gus on the table.
Finally a video with a Jewled Lacerta in it!!
Stinkin awesome! I'm currently on a blue tongue waitlist. The jeweled lacerta is very pretty. The markings on his back remind me of a water monitor.
love this dude
Thank you for being such a great help clint and inspiring me to start my reptile room do some videos on veil chameleons?
Hi Clint! I would love to see some videos about care and set up for reptiles! Personally, I would love that video for skinks. Thanks so much for your awesome content.
Like videos where you show us how to set up an enclosure, how you feed them, and I guess more about how the care looks in action rather than just information about the species.
Very interesting matchup!
New subscriber! Love your videos
I'm surprised, I would have thought Ackie Monitors would be a good mini tegu option. Great video regardless, looking forward to the Jeweled Lacerta video!!!
Why am I addicted to these videos
great video. i just put 7 perfect lacerta eggs in the incubator, so excited!
Let me know when they're ready to go! I need one in my life.
Clint's Reptiles for sure! Check out my Instagram 'evergreenstatereptiles' got hella tegus as well. Lots of fun videos.
You are so awesome. Because of you I got a bearded dragon, blue tounge skink ,and moreee
I'm so glad we've been a good resource for you!
I just love Gus-Gus! It inspired me to get one 😁👍🦎
Lacerta AWESOME. I'M DEFINITELY GOING TO GET ME ONE 😁💚🐸🐍🐢🦎
"...is kind of like handling a potato". I'M SOLD.
so if hit by a cart its mashed potatoes?
it is so interesting ☺
I love your skink videos
I wanted a blue tongue skink since grade 4 and I got mine last year after waiting over 10 years (I'm 24 now) and they are amazing pets. I want a tegu eventually in the future but that can wait till I have my own house
That sounds like my story exactly!
That's awesome, I have a giant day gecko and a licorice texas rat snake too. I wouldn't dare get one yet with just renting random houses every few years. I have so many ideas for large scale custom enclosures. My blue tongue alone is in a 6x4x3 foot
Awesome video! I'm about to go to a Repticon and I was contemplating buying a skink for a spare 50 gallon I just acquired. Maybe now it'll be a Lacerta instead :)
I have two lacertas both male and female cohabitating in a 7x3x4 . Both are very skittish and use every bit of the 14 inch depth of substrate . Humidity is not as big of a deal with them especially if you have a humid hide. I also just got a merauke blue tongue. He is by far bigger and more enjoyable too handle. Both are great species but the lacertas will typically take more time to tame down and build trust. If you have the time to do it then go for it. As of right now I enjoy my bts much more. What's not to love about a sausage with legs lol.
Keep up with your great videos, I love them and thanks for showing us these great animals :)
You're welcome! You have no idea how fun it is for me as well :)
Clint's Reptiles May I ask you a question Clint? I'm owning a Tegu and he's quite... let's call it bitey? I suppose he's in his grumpy teen phase :D The only thing to do is just holding out until he's grown?
What kind of tegu? Do you feed him before handling? Tegus love food. They may attack if they're hungry. But, you can use feeding as a way to build trust. Slowly increase your physical contact in association with food rewards.
Clint's Reptiles It's a Argentine Black/White One. When I make a fist out of my hand ( so there are no worm-like fingers for him) he actually climbs on my arm and everythings fine, but I'm not confident enough to not use gloves. :/
I never handle Gus Gus when he's hungry. Feed him first and he won't go after your fingers.
Great video as always! You should do some videos on milk snakes and king snakes!
We will for sure!
the jewled lecerta is so colorful!!
It is so crazy beautiful that I want to cry!
Great video as always! Please consider doing a video on Cuban False Chameleons. Only recently heard about them myself and intrigued that there’s a large anole out there with a calm, docile temperament straight out the egg 🥚🦎😍
I have a breeding pair of them (and my first egg in the incubator). Very probable that they will show up on here soon :)
Did you happen to hear about them from snake discovery
Bendytendy The Conservative As a matter of fact, I did! Haha :)
Clint's Reptiles So pleased to hear you have a pair of these. Can’t find any info on their life expectancy in captivity. Any insight?
Oh this comment confused the hell out of me, I wasn’t aware of these things and I thought you were talking about Knight anoles (commonly called Cuban anoles, hence my confusion) cause those things are meeeeaaaaannnnn.
They might both be stinking awesome... but only one is skinking awesome!
I'd love to have the funds to get both of those beautiful lizards. They look like great pets.
Ruffled hair bad boy Clint. l like it
I found some jeweled lacertas in a Petco in Juneau Alaska of all places and they'd been there forever so I obviously took them and made then a biiig tank with tons of burrowing space. They were so cute and nice from day one they would come up to me, the female was a little skittish but the male was my buddy right away. They were like beardies in temperament for me
Love the blue tongued skink. Wonderful
Temperament.
I just got a northern baby Bluey about a week ago and I love it. As babies they are a little hissy tho
I had gotten a crested gecko. Of course I didn't want to stop there. I watched this video and bought a jewelled lacerta. And now I've bought a blue tongue skink. Because why decide between the two? Both are SO amazing.
I had an ameiva for a while and while I agree that they're more skittish than a tegu and not nearly as handleable as these two, he was a really great pet all around. Very interactive, curious, and intelligent, and super fun to watch him as he foraged around his enclosure for super worms. He never stopped moving and was constantly doing something interesting. 9/10 would recommend as an intermediate difficulty lizard. They lose a point because they don't live very long :(
@Clint's Reptiles Are you going to be at the Reptilian National Expo Here in Denver, Colorado? It is July 21-22 and It would be great to meet you!
I think the jewelled lacerta is my perfect lizard hopefully I can get one soon
A nearby shop has a couple of lacerta bilineatas for sale, I'm tempted to adopt them :)
I'd love it if you made a video covering side blotch lizards or curly tails.
Once I saw the jeweled lacerta’s tongue I was hooked
Why though it's not blue
tegu shaped hole in your heart LOL
Man, Gus-Gus is so small here compared to his current size. It's like a school picture from 1st grade.
The Lacerta is gorgeous! Caiman Lizard next?
Very soon :)
Hello Clint, I love your videos especially the ones with Emily. I am going to get a pet snake and a lizard. I am wondering your reccomendations for which ones are the best for handling and for kids. I have a 5 yr old and a 3 yr old.
Clint is so cute!
Huge thanks to you for making this video and convincing me to get my blue tongue skink a few months ago. I do love that stubby legged noodle baby. With that said, I wanted to know if you (or anyone else who might have useful advice) have any recommendations for live plants that would be safe to add to a Merauke blue tongue skink's enclosure? I'm making a bioactive for him, and although I know there's a good chance he'll destroy the plants, I still want to give it a try.
Hey i was wondering if you could do an african red sided skink video? Totally okay if not, just want to learn more about the little guys. Also, Gus Gus is amazing!
Jeweled lacerta are now legal in norway! Yay
Skink skink, though the lacerta is so pretty! I'm a big skink fan, after rescuing so many wild ones from busy roads. Western Blue tongues and Bob -Tails (shinglebacks) are hiding everywhere!
Man, that Lacerta sure likes your camera!
I take issue with your first rating.
The Lacerta is stinkin' awesome, but not the Skink. He's...
*SKINKIN' AWESOME!*
I would really love to see a leo gecko vs. corn snake video.
Big fan of yours!!! Just wanted to say hi and keep up the fantastic videos man!
Please do a Green Tree Monitor video!!!
Jeweled Lacertas are in my favorite lizards. I absolutely love my breeders. They are beautiful and amazing! That's a gorgeous male in your video.
I had and Argentine black and white tegu, they require a lot of heat and my house ended up getting caught on fire because of the heat requirements. I’m probably going to get a skink of some sort :)
Jeweled lacertas are native to were I live and they are absolutely amazing to see. The problem about them is that I think they are illegal to keep as pets here in Spain because they are protected, but I'm not really sure
Great video, any recommendations on where to purchase a Jeweled Lacerta?
go bluey! nice vid.
I’m watching this with my blue tongue 😂
Love gus
hey Clint, do you know enough about water dragons to make a video? they seem like they could be a cool alternative to bearded dragons but i cant find many videos about them and you can only get so clear a picture from reading about something.
I love my BTS! Monsieur Bennington is a very handsome little man!
I love blue tongue skinks!
The best answer- the giant barking lizard (gallotia stehleni). I have kept and bred the 3 lizards in the video as well as barking lizards. Barking lizards have more of a tegu "look", and are more heavy bodied like a tegu, tame far more easily than a jewelled lacerta taming with minimal handling time, are omnivorous like a tegu, and the males even get the massive jowls like a tegu.
