- What is the best pet lizard? This is a question that we have been attempting to answer since we started Clint's Reptiles. Well, at this point, the emerald tree skink is, in my opinion, the best pet lizard that you could possibly get. I want to show you the new enclosure that we have built for them, and I want to tell you why the emerald tree skink is the best pet lizard that you could possibly get, or soon will be.

As someone who has done a Face to Face chat with Clint before and saw these, they are soooo skinkin' rad!!! As a curious person, I asked an ample number of questions about them (maybe two), and it seems like they always act like little puppies!! They seriously JUMP AT THE GLASS, HEADFIRST, for attention!!!
And also, it you can afford one, you really should do a Face to Face with Clint! It's over zoom, and helps support Clint's wonderful dream!
Yes, please do! I can't wait to meet you :)

I must do it !
I will have to argue fire skink is the best. Mine acts like a puppy. Mine just chills out with me
@@MastemaJack But, that is not how they generally act. Most of the time they hide, for most people. BUT, the way Clint's emerald tree skinks act is how they normally are, and a very shy emerald tree skink would instead be an outlier. I personally love the look of fire skinks a bit more, but the possibility of not being able to see them makes them not as skinkin rad as these emerald tree skinks.
@@newtscamander7713 I see mine every day and its wild caught. I just think wild caught or captive bred when a skink has an enclosure it likes as well as someone who handles it how it likes its just going to be the best.
“We have eggs!”
Me: *happy skink noises*
I’m astonished that these are wild caught animals! They’re so calm and inquisitive 😯 What gorgeous little dudes 🥰
It's difficult to understand.
Wild caught its Like hunting xd, its horrible, most of them die in the shiping ive seen it.
@@victorbautista3100 in most cases, your absolutely right, many do get dehydrated but I would call it importing and not hunting, that’s just my opinion tho..
The original skinks are wild caught, these two in this video are bought
@@victorbautista3100 actually I have a wild caught Garter, he's super kind and amazing to handle. He really loves getting fed and has quite the appetite for water. So honestly I feel like he was captive bread and released, just before I found him. Or he's just a good boi. Charlie is best snake
My heart just melted. You're like the Steve Irwin of specifically reptiles, you share the same passion and infectious enthusiasm.
Specifically reptiles? He's done videos on all kinds of other animals and even plants
No, he's better than Steve Irwin. Irwin had questionable ethics.
Brian Lindsay ?
Social species are some of the most intelligent--dolphins, crows, rats, elephants. They also tend to make the best pets because interaction is part of their normal behavior. Rats LOVE people, for example. I'm thinking that is why these little skinks like to interact, even with a human. Curiosity may also be a super adaptation for them, like it is with rats. Endless exploring is good for finding resources = selection for curiosity? I love evolutionary puzzles. Whatever the case, everyone who watched this now wants some :)
I love these guys from like, an animal behavior standpoint. It's wild that an animal naturally evolved to have preferences for handling and interaction so in line with what people want in pets most of the time. It's like if a rat was a lizard.
as a former rat owner i really want some!!
the gorrila glue flip the cage over thing is an absolute gamechanger, and to think I was considerring buying a new background for my backgroundless 36x18x18, this would make it so easy to give my rosy boa lots of places to hide. You should do a video on just common build styles and basic tricks like that that most advanced keepers would already be familiar with, but would be helpful to people who are still beginners or intermediate level
That's a great idea! I'm so glad we could help :)
Rosy boa squad!
@@thecompleteanimorph hell yeah, they are my newest most favoritest herp. Especially being from california, I want to collect all the localities we have in our state, as well as the baja ones. Just put a deposit on a yearling mountain springs female yesterday, I just love how much variety there is this species.
@@ClintsReptiles Definitely, you've been immensely helpful, I originally started with a Lacerta (which you also turned me onto), though I bought a sickly animal from a disreputable person and unfortunately Mugwump was not long for this world. I pretty much bought the setup exactly as you put it in the lacerta video description, and its a bit large for a rosy, but I don't think she'll mind the space. I wanna get back to lacertas eventually, but rosies have stolen my heart.
Me: being sad, that i won't be able to buy them, since i live in europe...
Clint: They had success breeding these in europe.
Me: :)
It's a great day!
There is an Emerald tree skink discussion group on facebook. I'm waiting to get approved to join. But I've read through some posts and there is a woman in the UK who has lots of success. Doing TOO well, she doesn't have room to hatch more unless she is able to sell more of them. So they are available :)
USA
If I can get access to the having in mind I live in Spain Europe if I see people selling them I’m getting them so bad
Same, I'm in Sweden, so they only allow captive bred animals here.
"this is the best pet lizard!"
_sad gus gus noises_
Gus Gus fears no competition.
00:50 the skink in the background YAWNS!
Thank you!
I love to see the absolute glee on Clint's face, when he's talking about his animals.
I love that you've been bringing a lot of attention to skinks over the years. A lot of people don't know what a skink is when they hear the name. They're (usually) very calm and hardy, they make such wonderful pets. Thank you for spreading the word on skinks!
This is an older video, but such a great example of why I feel 0 guilt, heck NEGATIVE guilt about spending money on patreon for ya'll
Oh man, Clint's genuine enthusiasm and these little lizards go hand and hand for a rad video.
It's that child like quality that Clint possesses that is infectious. Keep us informed friend!
That tank is gorgeous, and those little skinks had taken my personal top spot from the Peter's Banded, and the Pink Tongued skinks, and hearing you say they might be THE best pet lizards blew my mind. Very excited to see these starting to breed, and hopefully with your help they'll establish a foothold in the hobb.
I love those other two skinks as well, but these are just unreal.
Having a very hard time choosing between these and pink tongue skinks now.
@@mydogfreya487which one did you choose?
The excitement and pure joy on his face is amazing at 5:25😂
I think it's amazing how Clint has helped the Captive-Bred Reptile Community SO MUCH. I have a Pink Tongue Skink, and it's amazing to see how many people have started breeding them in the US, and made their numbers so popular just from one video!! Now I'm excited to see how the Captive-bred numbers of Emerald Tree Skinks go up, and how many people have the chance to buy them ethically in the coming years!! I've had the chance to chat with Clint on Facebook comments before, but didn't have the chance to say how STINKIN RAD this community is getting!!!!
And my brother said reptiles don’t have emotions and can’t be trained without food. Lol nice vid Clint I really enjoyed it. I also have a channel that I am trying to grow, and I think you have been the biggest influence. Thank you Clint 🙏
This was so fun to see...especially right after having met them in person!! Thanks again for a marvelous visit at your reptile room, Clint!
Had to tempt you further...
@@ClintsReptiles I’m sold! I just need to work out the space for an enclosure...😊
My husband and I actually clapped (and I squealed with glee) when you said that you have eggs. We just love you so much and we appreciate all you are and all that you do. Thank you. ❤️
I love the way they regard their surroundings. A combination of measuring distances and considering angles, which you'd expect from an arboreal jumper and climber, and a surprising degree of relaxation for a small animal.
You’ve converted my hubby and I, we’re now saving to work on a nice big bio active enclosure for a pair of these sweet babies 💚 he has become OBSESSED with these little dudes. Really hoping we can maybe find a pair of captive bred ones down the line we’re actually ready to buy in a couple years
He's so genuinely happy with these guys, haven't seen him this happy often
That wonderful enthusiasm they exhibit of coming out of their enclosure to their caretakers is something my Water Dragons do! Such great personalities in these intelligent and all too often misunderstood Reptiles.
I live in the Pilippines and you do see these critters often on rural areas especially if there are a lot trees. Walk around a forest area and just like the Tokay gecko it's almost inevitable to see one scurrying about (although not for long, the'yre fast). I always love spotting them in the wild and its not surprising that people would want them as pets. What's surprising to me is how curious and personable they are! Who would have thought.
Gus Gus feeling sad rn as his picture is taken from the wall and replaced with the emerald tree skinks
I love Gus Gus ever so much. He knows it. He is confident in who he is. Tegus are just too big to be "the best pet lizard" for must people.
@@ClintsReptiles hehe I knowww... or maybeee you could get both and be surrounded by a lot of cuddly faces? :D
I actually went to see a tegu breeder in Manchester recently, and I didn’t realise how small the babies were!!
They're so cute!
@@ClintsReptiles Thank you! I love Tegus, but they are not for people who aren’t ready to give a lot of their time and space to their Tegu.
I also just did a Bioactive vivarium vid for these guys too cause they’re just so amazing and they’re beauty needs to be shared 😍 Hoping we get some captive bred ones in the future. Thankyou for sharing their awesomeness with us.
I hate reptiles, but Clint's happiness and passion is contagious and I watch just because it's like letting the warm sun beat on your face through the window when it's cold outside. Thanks for spreading sunshine all along your way. ☀️
I love seeing how excited you are about them and how much you love them. They really are such cool little animals
I NEED one of these reptiles, the perfect alternative to Green Tree monitors!!! Great video clint, beautiful terrarium aswell
Very similar personality.
Another similar lizard I would recommend is the green keeled belly lizard (gastropholis prasina)
I’m actually planning on breeding emerald tree skinks just to help make a captive bred population and to make my hobby of keeping reptiles free after the emerald tree skink project I plan on breeding pink tongue skinks
Skinks are just so “Skinkin” rad
Please hit me up if u have babies of these one day!
If you produce captive bred babies let me know. I’d love to help contribute to people making the hobby better and more ethical.
Even though I later specialized in immunology and virology, I fell in love with biology because of my love for nature, especially insects, amphibians, and reptiles. So as a reptile-loving science nerd, let me say this:
You are the best kind of nerd. Keep up the fantastic written!
Sweetest little lizards I’ve ever seen! Enjoy them, Clint! Hope for updates on the eggs when they hatch.
You do know that we need a video on those guys hatching, right? ❤️
They really seem wonderful. The fact that they walk over food and want to come to your hand is amazing. I wish you all luck in the world with breeding. 🙏
Great video, let me know if you want to talk about breeding these chaps, we spoke on Facebook I'm the European breeder (UK) currently on Hatchling 38 for this season and no sign of stopping!
You know of any european breeders of these amazing lizards? I live in Scandinavia and I'm having a hard time finding any info on this 😞
They're soo cool! I can't wait to start seeing these for sale captive bred, they would absolutely be my first choice for a pet lizard
Me: Ugh 2020 keeps getting worse and worse
*Clints Reptiles Posts a Stinkin rad Video*
Me: Nevermind. :)
2020 keeps getting worse clint keeps getting better and better
I love how colorful they are! They’re so cool 👌
This is an awesome video, I really like the tank setup with a review of a reptile, further emphasizing their potential as awesome pets 😎
Totally keep us updated! !!!!! Absolutely fascinating! !!!!!!! Just wow!!!!
I've owned 2 wild-caught Megafreya Sutrix (jumping spider) and they are just like this. They are a bit stupid compared to the other jumping spiders in the area but they are SO curious. They have a rest mode, a curious mode and a food mode. Every time you see them on rest mode is because they didn't see you yet, as soon as they see your finger getting away they'll run as quick as they can to jump onto it and explore your hand. The food mode only appears when they aren't on curious mode because they will literally watch and ignore food if they are exploring, even if they are not stressed at all, they simply won't take it. Definitely the most rewarding pet jumping spider I've ever had
I really love this style of video! I hope you showcase each one of your critters like this!
These look so fun and gorgeous! I really hope they get established!
Amazing Lizard-Blows my mind. Been having a kinda bad day. As usual Clint brought the stress level down and had me in awe.
What a beautiful enclosure! I’m looking forward to many updates on these awesome little skinks!!! :)
Absolutely beautiful and look like so much fun! I'm in love!!
Never heard of these guys till' today and I'm absolutely in love. Cannot wait to see their growth within the reptile hobby and hopefully soon enough they will be safety and sustainably established with the pet reptile world :) I truly look forward to the day I can responsibly have a captive bred pair of my own
I love your video’s and the reptiles in it of course! Love it! Keep going!
What glorious animals. Thanks for sharing!
I love it when y'all do enclosure builds! Those skinks are amazing!
Thank you so much! I totally agree about the skinks!
I love seeing these enclosure builds!
I just acquired one of these little guys from a reptile show. So grateful for the video showing this set up! I plan to emulate this for my little guy and probably get him a couple girlfriends.
Great video Clint. Production was great and the presentation made me want them. They seem like a great lizard. Keep up the great work. I hope to visit next year.
What a wonderful video, thank you so much! I wish I could visit your place. Please keep up your fantastic work.
I'm living vicariously through you right now. My roommate and I just fell deeply in love with these little guys when you first showed them. I even wouldn't mind having a breeding pair myself and contributing to the captive bred population. This is wonderful! I agree, I also think these are going to take off like wildfire.
Such sweet beautiful beautiful lizards! Their home looks gorgeous.
Amazing video Clint! As per usual ❤️❤️
would like to say thank you for all the amazing videos, I'm loving my created gecko and your videos help tremendously
Awww ❤️ Im really inloved with skinks,And this vid makes me more interested with them...
dude, when they walked right up to your hand as you reached out, I was amazed. what cute little dudies
I have felt like supporting a few different Paterons, but i am definatly going to be supporting your first. You are a hell of a guy that truly is trying to help a awesome hobby. I have kept reptiles for years and have had some success breeding different geckos (Marble, Golden, White line) . My favorite reptile of all is the Tokay and the Savannah monitor. Love all your videos and will be getting your Pateron soon. Would love to see you do a video on African Fat-tail Gecko also.
Really cool, Clint!!! 😃🦎🦎👍
I love these lizards and your enclosure looks tremendous! Even I wouldn't mind making that leafy oasis my home.
Best of luck to you and your clutches. It is so frustrating to have to just wait and hope for those eggs to hatch. As always, your passion and enthusiasm are so evident. I've never even been interested in skinks (always been a gecko person as lizards go) but I am very eager to see you succeed.
clint ive been watching your videos forever but never really even thought about owning a reptile until i saw these guys!
i really hope they become popular in the hobby as i think id love to have some as pets one day!
They are so cool! I would love to have lizards that interact with you like they do.
*I don't need 'em, I don't need 'em* 😫
Of course you don't need them.. YOU WANT THEM.
I NEEEEEED IT!
They are adorable!
Thats so cool and a good study on the topic of REPTILE feelings and EMOTIONS!! =D
That's an amazing level of chill.
Unreal!
A totally beautiful and captivating creature. The lizard is cool too.
Hope these end up being captive bred because these are amazing
Yes I love them so much!!! I finally got my hands on a breeding pair and they are some of my favorite animals
I have three of these little guys as a breeding project and received all males....I still very much enjoy them though, they are the center piece of my living room. My favorite herps by far. Your statement about their personalities is spot on!, amazing little guys!
love your passion about them
Thank you for the video
I hope these lizards become widely available captive bred.
You are a stinkin’ rad person for caring about the animals you keep, and telling a lot of people how rad reptiles are
Awesome! I was waiting for a skink update. The pet store near my house may be restocking in them soon, hope to get one of those beauties myself!
OMG!! THEY LOOK INCREDIBLE! Like a mix of a giant day gecko and a Timor monitor
Thank you for your good work sir.
These guys seem like they would make a great classroom pet!!! Im keeping my eye out and saving my pennies....
These are adorable. I hope breeders start having more success with breeding Peter's banded skinks too. Those are my favorite.
Those guys are so cool! Congrats on the eggs!
That's SO COOL!!!
His enthusiasm makes me wanna get the animals he showcases, especially these since they are found in my country. They are quite elusive though so it's surprising to see that they are very friendly in this video.
I’m genuinely excited for when these are available captive bred, but I can tell that a lot of people are gonna be very excited, so hopefully the price doesn’t inflate like crazy before I’m able to get my hand on one or two cb
That’s incredible!
I got to meet these little skinks when I visited the Reptile Room. They are beyond charming in their behavior and personality, and getting to just watch them bounce around their enclosure and lick water off the leaves was as enjoyable as handling them. Such wonderful, bold, inquisitive lizards with enormous personalities.
I enjoyed meeting all the reptiles there, but these are the ones I just can’t stop thinking about.
I hope you get a successful breeding pair with them! Would love to see these little guys kick off over the next decade with captive bred projects!
I love them! 🥺🥺❤️😂 super cool.
I just happened upon the video on these from June or whenever it was, only 2 days ago, when looking for day gecko videos. And I fell in love instantly! And here you are with another one! Absolutely gorgeous animals. They just look like they think a lot and are extremely interested in what is going on around them.
I've never felt this need to have something before. Unfortunately it might be tricky for me to get some. Importing is possible but when you live 7 hours away from the airport things get harder. Living in Sweden it is illegal (thankfully!) to ship animals by mail. Currently looking around like mad for info on how I can get a hold of some, hopefully in 6 months.
But I like others worry about what is going to happen to the wild population if they become very popular. I feel like I'd be contributing to something awful even when buying captive bred, as you need to capture at least a number of wild ones to be able to breed them.
I’m going to be getting some of these soon and I’m so excited, I made a 2’x18”x4’ enclosure for them, I can’t wait!!!
This is so rad. Heckin yaaa. They are so neatt
They are precious! I’m more of a snake guy, but these are amazing!
Neat! I hope you have success with breeding these!
Oh my. These are truly the perfect lizard!
2 years ago I saw your vid on ball pythons. The following year, I bought one and acquired 2 more. Now I recently bought a beardie hahaha thanks for sharing and educating bro 😊😊
The first time i saw a skink move in the WILD oh my gosh it really hooked me on their intrigue! =D
They are So Cute!
Wow! Ok 1 that tank is gorgeous amazing work they are loving it! 2 please put me on the wait list for your captive bred babies cause these guys are amazingly rad and I have one for my new bestie!
Love these kind of vidios
