Hi mate just a quick one on testing . Is it ok when you guys test to somehow flash up on the screen the test result value ? As an improver I find your stuff fantastic . Thanks guys
We will try
Nice to see you back on the tools Jordan. One thing if you donât mind me asking - can an EV charger be fitted to a supply that is looped off next door, does this differ by dnoâs or is it a no go? I know my supply is looped and I am end of the line. The supply cable comes from the road, down next doors drive, connects into next door, around the back of the house to mine (semi detached). To put the icing on the cake, next door have just had their drive done with tarmac. The main cable in the street runs past the front of my drive too so I donât know why they looped it, it would have been shorter to run from the street. I suppose I could report it as high Ze, itâs 0.36 on a pme but I doubt theyâll do anything.
Liked and subscribed.
My olev funded podpoint was installed in a new mini cu with rcd, coming from a rcd protected breaker from the main cu. Nobody has died yet, but is this within regs or just not best practice?
Thanks for joining us! Sounds ok to me but I canât say for sure without seeing it.

hmm nice sleeping compartment at the start! đđđ
very nice installation, something tells me your totally missing getting messed up doing ace work and enjoying it!
Haha thanks
Instead of a copper bus bar to stop the drill damaging the cable in the DB, I find a bolster chisel works best.
Nice tip!
I'm not an electrician yet, I don't have an EV yet, I don't live in England ( yet maybe? ) and yet these videos never get old for some reason.
Haha thanks for watching!
How can you tell if someone, especially a stranger owns a Tesla......
They tell you
time and time again.
Just like bmw drivers.
LOL
I donât think id wanna tell anyone I own a Tesla. Give me a v8 any day
Jordan, I know you may have changed your point of view installing anything in the meter cupboard, but if it's owned by the householder not the DNO, what is the problem? Just an historical no no ? Thanks đ
Great work. What type of cable did you use?
Tuff Sheath
Correct me if Iâm wrong but I think you used 4mm cable feeding the Zappi Jordan. I know itâs an ultra short run, but shouldnât it really be 6mm for 32A? Wonât the resistive heating be a bit high? Not criticising, just learning. Peter.
I was lead to believe that an evse should be 2.5m away from and extreneous conductive part (as in the metal tap) or does the pen detection of the zappi cover this? Other wise neat and tidy install and waiting for a video, of an eV install from the supply in the middle of the house under the stairs
I noticed this point. The external hose near the Zappi.
Amend 1 page 11 722.411.4.1 I think the external hose connected with the same earthing arrangement with the Zappi TN-C-S/ PME. So there is no earth potential. If install with TT island. That will be a issue, should be 2.5m away.
Someone could touch the metal down pipe at the same time
Yes. How about insulate the metal pipe or connected 4mm supplementary bonding with tap. Or seek another location for installation.
For those who arenât in the industry, like me đ can you explain when live became line and the reasoning given? đ€
Great to see the passion you show in doing a quality job Jordan.
Interesting you didn't crimp the supply cable at the Zappi, which you used to preach before (neither did Cory on his last EV install)) surely not a cost cutting measure by Artisan?? lol
Love the vlogs
I believe crimped ferrules are only required when itâs a multi stranded conductor. Solid single conductors are fine as is AFAIK. Folding it over is good practice to increase the screw clamp contact area.
Yeah thatâs right ferrules are only needed on fine stranded cables
That deburring you can get double sided tools, so you can do both sides at the same time.
Cool thanks
Nice work
Thanks!
4mm? In any circumstances would you install a 10mm incase the customer in future fits a fast charger?
When it's such a short run especially.
Do you install a harvi ? I thought you had to install a smart charger to be eligible for the grant ?
Yes we install a harvi and hub
Great video, is the cable h07?
No its NYYJ
Jordan did you use swa in this short run or just rubber cable.
We used Tuff Sheath cable from Doncaster Cables NYYJ đ
Would be interested to see about how to shuffled the breakers around to get the non RCD protected way.
Just shift everything to the left then add a bit of busbar
Can I ask a question? We've just had an Ohme charger installed. Should I have received any paperwork/certification from the installer? Thanks.
Yes you should have electrical and building regulations certificates as well as instruction manual of the charge point, they should also have submitted a DNO notification which they may choose to give you a copy of although they aren't obliged.
Thank you. Very helpful. Love the videos.
Hi Jordan
Good to see you back in the real world ! again
Whatâs happened to your Metrel tester then? Not getting on with it??
Cory has it!
Your camera man will be able to join your install team soon đ
Iâm learning lots but Iâll leave that to the professionals đ
I see the consumer unit has been given the usual new build level of care on installation!
The old chuck it in amd run
đ€Ł
Does it look that bad?
@@chrishewlet5471 it's not great is it? I would give it 4/10 at best for workmanship. It's not awful and understand the race to the bottom is a hotly contested one on new build sites but it doesn't take a lot of effort to make it a lot better than that. I presume it's safe and compliant but it makes it more difficult to add new circuits and harder to test/inspect. When you think of the price of a nice new build house and consider the electrical installation is probably only worth ÂŁ1000 you start to wonder where the money goes.
@@Blackf1ngers I guess it could do with some tidying up but I do like me a bit of slack. True, it's less about being the best at what you do than it is about making money fast these days for many professional installers out there.
SHouldn't you use a 40A breaker to avoid long-term heating issues with a 32?
Manufacturers instructions recommend a 32A breaker so thatâs what we fit
I thought that, my sparky put a 32amp in for the Zappi, I've set the Zappi not to charge over 30amps as I'm not a electrician but running the charger near the breaker limit seems sketchy?
Found this on Zappi install manual "This device must be equipped with an over-current protection device of maximum 32 Amps (B32)"
@@buaan no thats fine , the breaker is to prevent the charger from running more than 32A on the supply to protect the cable from melting , your zappi will only use how much you set it
yeah, I would if manuf's didn't recommend otherwise
is there a reason you mega before you r1 r2?
If the cables fucked no point carrying on with the test
Just had a zappi installed and it failed next day on pe fault 25. Found earth rod connection rusted off, so re made. Supply is not combined neutral earth. It is still going out on pe fault at end of charge, but will now reset. Car is mg zs. Any ideas?
I would connect it to the PME earth, im guessing you had an old charger and replaced it with a Zappi? Earth rod is not needed with a Zappi unless youre on a TT system for the whole house.
Let an electrician measure the impedance of that earth rod (an electrode) to the 'general mass of earth' or the 'loop impedance' to see if it generally has a high resistance that is barely good enough.
Maybe parts of the rod further down into the soil is also corroded and making a poor contact to the soil around it. Then a new rod, or electrodes embedded in conductive concrete should help decrease/improve the contact resistance to the soil. Some say 'conductive concrete' works well, and reduces corrosion of metal parts embedded into the concrete. Manufacturers talk about 60 years of life expectancy.
@@NikolaiBeier .
The earth loop impedance was good when fitted. Should be better now rod is reconnected.
I researched and found earth settings in advanced setup. It was set on TT and I have now set it to TI, which is less sensitive.
It is now not tripping and working fine. Does my fix sound OK?
What cable was used h07 or hi tuff
Tuff Sheath NYYJ
Nagy type camera man, things are looking up.
I could give you a tougher install, mid-terraced house (with drive), with the Consumer Unit and informingly supply under the stairs, in the middle of the property.
Yeah that IS tough!
I would avoid to do the job. I can not imagine how hard it would be
What would you suggest for two charging points/two EV's in one house?
I see you can get two grants per household, so I guess it has to be two single points?
Yeah two Zappi's would be perfect as they can dynamically load balance off each other
@@artisanelectrics Great, thanks for letting me know. Just a shame I'm some distance from you down in Surrey.
Nice neat job. Shame about the hub PSU cable at 23.30 though. It's just hanging untidily to the left of the consumer unit.
Yeah its not the final location, that was just to set it up as they have no internet there yet.

I don't think anything would be wrong as the ev charger are waterproof
Nice video Jordan, did I hear you say you used 4mm cable (NYY-J)?
For those watching this thinking about having an EV Charger fitted, don't use BP Pulse. I have to because a free installation was included with the car. 5 months into the process and still not fitted. OK, I have not been making a fuss because the car is only just about to arrive. They have asked for the same information multiple times, plus photos, I don't mind sending it but they ask for different things and then ignore what I have already sent! They never answer the phone! The latest mail asked if I have a spare location on the NON-RCD side of the board (again) and then they say I have to have an Isolator after the meter in the meter cupboard! Why could they not have told me that before! I now have to try to get the supply company out to do that - which will no doubt cost three times what it should and take ages!
So is it true that you sparks can't add a new MCB in a CU unless the tails are dead? What's wrong with isolating the main switch in the CU??
Most likely a company health and safety policy to require the CU be completely dead inside. Personally after working in live industrial control panels I don't see any issues having live tails into a CU, but that's me...
