    I looked at folding biles for a year. I bought the Link D8 and love it. Rock solid hinges. Excellent components. Super comfortable riding position. Great ride. Folded size is fine. Fits in my car trunk fine. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. It's the best folding bike for the money. 5 stars Tern.

  • @CreRay
    @CreRay Před 9 lety +5

    I was on the verge of buying the D8. In terms of quality I think it's clearly better than the Dahon bikes, especially the hinges. It rides very well too, the frame feels excellent. What really put me off the Tern is the way it folds, with the handlebar on the outside. It takes up more space that way, and puts the cables etc. on the outside which makes it more vulnerable. I really can't figure why they chose to do it that way.

  • @thatsmrskylinetou

    I'm going to buy one of these as soon as I get the money. All of my research is telling me this is by far the best bang for the buck that won't crap out in a few years.

    True, the Strida folds very quickly but is not as useful for longer rides or bad roads. Hi, to decide between the two bikes, its best to think about what kind of riding you want to be doing. The Speed P8 has wide Schwalbe Big Apple tires to handle tough streets. It is a tough dependable commuter. The Link D8 has the incredibly well designed hinge technology that Tern is known for, good components, as well as fenders and a rear rack. Personally I would recommend, the Tern D8, a great bike, and for the same price, you're getting a brand new product! Hope that helps- Jack

    We will not have the C7 on the shop floor but will offer it on the internet. It has lower quality hinges and components that compete with other budget bikes. We have 30 more videos to do, so will pick the most poplar ones first. I love the Link D8, its a lot of bike for the money, maybe just skip a few other pleasures and go for that one?
    Stay tuned anyways, we might squeeze in a C7 Video. -Bert

    You'll have no problem going fast on the D8. The Speed P8 has thick big apple tires that will absorb rougher terrain better, but the link D8 should be able to match the P8 in speed- jack

    In response to the inquiry about "cheapest folding bikes," I agree with Peter. The main thing you want from a frame is strength and responsiveness, and by responsiveness I guess I mean it should feel like the front is connected to the back. Not solid like a rock, but like a violin bow or like a tennis racket. Cheap folders - like my Fuji - don't have that. They really lack that certain something. It shouldn't display its compromises so obviously in everyday use.

  • @christopherhindman7573

    I commute by bike every day (4-17miles depending on if I use the light-rail or ride all the way in) and would love to do some light touring and have a travel bike - for the money the D8 is a very attractive package. You mention that the Link D8 is not as fast as the P9. Is this due to the gearing? How much faster/slower? Worried about not having a good low end for climbs and not enough high end to keep up a decent speed. Also, how secure are those hinges? Bumpy descents would have me worried about those coming undone (ever worry about the safety lock?). Current commuter ride is a Diamondback Haanjo fitted with panniers and my only experience with folding bikes is a test ride on a Brompton (awesome bike, but a little outside my price range). Anyhow, I really appreciate and enjoy your reviews and if you have time to respond, I would be stoked. Thank you.

    Nice!!! I too, have changed my lifestyle and dropped a lot during the summer.I'm sure it will hold your weight and with your fixed eating habits, you'll dropped down to their 'legal' requirements. it should still hold your weight without any problems but as nycewheel representative pointed out, its generally a good idea to avoid big cracks and pot holes. 260 pounds can easily triple in weight on impact.

    I think you'd be alright, just be a little extra careful, don't take it over rough terrain very often, avoid potholes, anything that would put a little extra strain on the frame. You could also consider buying the Brompton bike which has a 300 max load, and which is, overall, is going to be a higher end folding bike than the D8. Best- jack

    Hi, firstly, thx a lot for this review!... I'm about to buy a folding bike and I really hesitate between a Brompton and a Tern. After 4 years, would you still recommend Tern? I learnt it was the firm of Dahon's son, and Dahon has not a very good reputation... Lots of breaking parts... Any advice would be very appreciated! Another thing: I'm 6,1 ft tall (185cm), would you say Tern Bikes are suitable in my case?

    • @nycewheels
      @nycewheels  Před 7 lety

      Hello Nicolas! Tern certainly has a great reputation, all of their past frame issues have been resolved, and they sell high quality folding bikes that ride very well. Brompton is a step up in price, but also great quality and durability to go along with their small folding size.
      At 6' 1", you'd be fine to get any Brompton or Tern, but it depends more of what you're using the bike for. A multi modal commute (taking the bike on buses and trains) will always be easier with a Brompton, but if you just ride from point A to B, a Tern will certainly do the job well. Feel free to shoot us an email at info@nycewheels.com or give us a call if you have any more questions! - Connor
