- Learn about All of the Camera Shot Sizes in film, from extreme wide establishing shots to extreme close ups!
The more aesthetically and dramatically effective your collection of shots are, the more impactful of an experience or story you will construct for you audience. And typically, the first thing people think of when setting up their shot, is the Shot Size! Shot size or field of view is determined by how much of the frame your subject occupies in relation to the environment that surrounds them. For me, I like to break shot sizes up into 4 basic categories: Wide Shots, Medium Shots and Close Ups. This is Part One of my cinematography, or Filmmaking Techniques video series

Taking film school application exams next week and one of the parts is writing a film analyzis. This channel is an actual godsend!
Glad I could help! Thanks for the support! 👍 ...and good luck!
Very nice detailed explanation, all parts are good. Great job keep going. Your channel deserves much more subscribers
Thanks, will do! 👍
Thank you so much for this, I’m revising for my moving image arts gcse exam and this made my revision session fairly enjoyable. The way you explained things and the shots examples you used from media where very engaging. So yeah…thank you (:
You're welcome! 👍 Glad I could help out! Good luck on your exam! 🎬🎥🎞
Instant subscribe and follow. What a great video, this is exactly what i was looking for. I've seen other videos explaining shot sizes, StudioBinder has got a good one, but this one is even better.
Now i can go outside and try to apply what i learned. There is a small lake near where i live, i would like to shoot just a simple cinematic sequence and basically try to capture the location. I have a Mavic 3 and a Sony A6400 with the Sigma trinity lenses. My plan is to try and get as many angles as i can, from wide to close-up and then try to make something out if it in Premiere. Will also try to play with adding some music, some audio effects to emphasize the environment, and probably some color grading will be necessary. Maybe i will post it on youtube if all goes well.
Thank you so much for the inspiration!
Awesome. Glad I was able to help with what you were looking for. Not sure if you noticed, but I have 5 other videos in this series about Camera Angles, Camera Movements, Framing/Composition etc (linked in the description)... If you want to get even more cinematic make sure to check those before you head over to the lake to film! Thanks for watching! And good luck with your video!
@@ThisGuy thanks, i have seen the other videos on your channel and all i can say is they are brilliant! As a beginner, i still feel overwhelmed by all the moving parts of film making/cinematography and videos like these are immensely helpful in finding structure and just something to hold on to while navigating this crazy picture making journey. Please make more videos! For example, how do we use these shot sizes correctly? Do i just go from wide to medium to close-up back to medium back to wide, is there a formula or you just go by feel? In a lot of the tutorial videos the subject is always a person (an actor), but my subject for example is a location, a lake surrounded by beautiful trees and vegetation, and perhaps some wildlife/birds. Would love to get some tips on that. Thank you again!
@@aerozg Very true. Both those ideas are maybe possible videos in the future (ie: how to use shot sizes etc in combination with each other and while filming things other than subjects/people). I will keep those in mind for the future for sure!
What a fantastic video! Thank you so much
You are so welcome!
Amazing videos! Thank you so much!
No Problem. Glad you like them!
Solid informative video, will be used for my middle school AV class.
Awesome. Glad it will be useful! 👍 Make sure to check out the other 5 videos in the series as well...
Cheers. I've had a major establishing shot deficit in my vlogs since the pandemic started as I've mostly had to vlog locally and don't want to give away my location. Argh!!
Ha! I think that should be an actual filmmakers "diagnosis" - establishing shot deficit disorder - I've definitely had it a time or two in the past as well...!
Subscribed even before watching the video
Nice. Thanks!
So insightful
if you liked this one 👍 You might want to check out the other videos in the series too...?
great vid... thanks..
You're welcome!
Good teaching technic
Mush appreciated. Thanks for watching!
Fabulous
Glad you liked it.
Good video.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it
Could do a video on why some filmmakers use a 50 mm for established shots?
It is understood that on a full frame sensor a 50 mm will give you the same field of view and perception of depth as normal human vision. A 50 mm on a full frame also gives you a great balance between a normal wide image and good depth of field.
Where have you been my whole life. . .
...Waiting for CZcams to get my videos out to more people I guess...? Thanks for the support! 👍
I wil not watch your video when full of political rhetoric beforehand
What TF are you talking about? Political Rhetoric??? Like what? Are you sure you even watched this video?
