  • A brief and no nonsense review of my 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Type UK.
    These old exhaust rumbling tarmac eaters are very special cars, and this should hopefully show you why.
    Everyone needs and old classic like this in their life, and remember folks, racecar spelt backwards is still racecar....
    Hope you enjoy the review :)

      Great cars! I'd have liked a blue one to be honest but there weren't any good ones on the market at the time. I've just bought some Prodrive PFF7 alloys which set the car off nicely :)

    I've had my 2006 55 plate Type UK for 15 years now. I love it to bits. I don't get to drive it much now as I work from home, but I still get a buz just seeing it sitting on the driveway. I'm a video game sound designer (worked on the DiRT 2 and 3 games) so obviously sound is a bit part of the package for me. I can't see myself ever getting rid of it although to be honest it needs driving more. Bad condensation/water issues in the cabin.

      Robinsons Select Car Reviews from my experience any sti with dccd is a very good car I had a tuned evo 8 fq300 before my current sti and I prefer the sti, hopefully they will but I’m not to bothered I just enjoy driving it, that’s true sadly a lot have rusted away and any ropey ones are worth a lot more in bits sadly, no worries looking forward to more content!

    A very good review. Nail on head really. You’ve got to not give a shit and just enjoy it and ignore the haters/disapproving looks. I’ve had loads of motors and a good Impreza makes for a very versatile car. Agree std suspension is the kiddy.

    Certainly worth keeping in 10 years from now everything will be electric so this sound will never be made again.

    Great review. I'm looking to upgrade from my ep3 type r to one of these as my weekend fun car. Why do you say its money pit? I'm looking to spend about 11k so it so will be looking for one with about 70k is there anything I should be aware of?

    • @RobinsonsSelectCarReviews
      @RobinsonsSelectCarReviews  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks mate, you definitely wont be disappointed, but nowadays they can suffer with rust/rot and the seals start to fail etc, so it's just the maintenance I'm referring to in terms of it being a money pit.. When you view them i'd check the suspension, the subframe which is prone to rotting and above all else listen to the engine with the bonnet up for any knocking noises, which might indicate its on its way out. Also if they have a blow off dump valve it can be bad for the engine so id recommend a recirculating valve instead.

    • @Puma6922
      @Puma6922 Před rokem

      it's common on 2.5s
      2.5's had a lot of issues with headgaskets, rings and then the hawk eyes also had some faulty oil pickups which would crack and immediately grenade the engine
      the GD generation ej20T usually only dies to bad maintenance or neglect, they're super sensitive to oil change frequency or otherwise the bearings go.

    How do I know if I got a wide track

    • @RobinsonsSelectCarReviews
      @RobinsonsSelectCarReviews  Před 3 lety

      If you look at the rear wheel arches there's a little extra bit of trim that comes out on the widetrack versions. Also the steering wheel on these is all black whereas the non-widetrack versions had a grey centre on the steering wheel. The widetrack versions also have DCCD and the previous version doesn't :)
