- A brief and no nonsense review of my 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Type UK.
These old exhaust rumbling tarmac eaters are very special cars, and this should hopefully show you why.
Everyone needs and old classic like this in their life, and remember folks, racecar spelt backwards is still racecar....
Hope you enjoy the review :)
Great review mate. It's the only car that's ever put a smile on my face. What a rush when the boost kicks in!
Cheers mate, I'm the same I've always been a huge scooby fan. They don't make cars like that anymore haha
Great vid. Had my 05 blob for 4 years and still puts a smile on my face. Blue with gold wheels. 40K miles and completely standard. Absolutely love it!!!
Great cars! I'd have liked a blue one to be honest but there weren't any good ones on the market at the time. I've just bought some Prodrive PFF7 alloys which set the car off nicely :)
@@RobinsonsSelectCarReviews awesome - will look fantastic.
Fair play mate just looking at 1 of these to go to my son as well same color, pin up car of the naughties! More authentic than anything modern.
They don't come cheap but the simplicity of Japanese technology..gotta love these guys
Here's me watching sti videos whilst refreshing ebay, autortrade and PH for the last month looking for the one. Blue 05 sti ppp blobeye.
Id have preferred a blue one to be honest but id waited so long for a suitable wide track that when this one became available I just went for it straight away.

Just picked one up!!! 😁 A long day to collect her but finally got her home. Just a few small things to sort out to make perfect. Couldn't stop grinning on the way home
Brought back some great memories. I had 4 of them between 2003 and 2017. They get under your skin 👍
I've had my 2006 55 plate Type UK for 15 years now. I love it to bits. I don't get to drive it much now as I work from home, but I still get a buz just seeing it sitting on the driveway. I'm a video game sound designer (worked on the DiRT 2 and 3 games) so obviously sound is a bit part of the package for me. I can't see myself ever getting rid of it although to be honest it needs driving more. Bad condensation/water issues in the cabin.
They are definitely a driver's car, I love my V9 they are so addictive this is my fourth Impreza I just carnt leave them alone , great review too 😁👍
I got the same car same colour and I love it as well I plan to hang on to it for as long as possible, subscribed.
They're awesome aren't they! I'd imagine they will creep up in value as well as there arent many good clean examples left these days... thanks for the sub also :)
Robinsons Select Car Reviews from my experience any sti with dccd is a very good car I had a tuned evo 8 fq300 before my current sti and I prefer the sti, hopefully they will but I’m not to bothered I just enjoy driving it, that’s true sadly a lot have rusted away and any ropey ones are worth a lot more in bits sadly, no worries looking forward to more content!
I’m looking for one currently but they’ve all been molested😭
Lick My gooch it’s the rust that’s the biggest issue I sometimes look at some for sale then put there Reg into the mot checker then you normally see the dreaded list of corrosion!
Brilliant review mate, totally right about it puts a smile on your face. My 2.5 hawkeye is fully forged straight to 120mph on the A1 slip roads :-)
Cheers mate, gotta love the scoobys haha. I've heard the 2.5 ones have a lot more torque so I bet yours is unreal on boost! just watched a couple of your vids, looks rapid and sounds the nuts as well :)
The most amazing generation blobeye
Love them mate, only going up in value as well :)
Great video, 👍 Subaru are just freaking cool 😎 I've got a rally blue 💙 wrx turbo in absolutely stunning condition 2005. I've owned hundreds of cars, nothing makes you smile 😃 like a subaru
That exaust sounds just right ! Perfect example of sti
Thanks mate, the sound never gets boring does it haha
@@RobinsonsSelectCarReviews restoring my 05 sti 2.5 . Deciding wich catback to install! Leaning to the cobb carback
Couldn't have put it better.. just you, your dog and the sub
Thanks mate, great cars! Always puts a smile on my face when I fire it up haha
A very good review. Nail on head really. You’ve got to not give a shit and just enjoy it and ignore the haters/disapproving looks. I’ve had loads of motors and a good Impreza makes for a very versatile car. Agree std suspension is the kiddy.
Thanks mate, cracking cars aren't they :)
i put my blob eye on 'comfort' coilovers
rides smoother then it did stock, but also turns quick lap times
Recognise a few of those roads mate. Great review.
Didn’t know you still had this. Bet you have to hide the keys from Paul 😂
Certainly worth keeping in 10 years from now everything will be electric so this sound will never be made again.
I won't be giving my 340/340 wide track to my sons though, still remember the holes made in hedges from driving in the 70-80s
Correction, 'massively less reliable' lol. 2.5 is a cracking engine, when its built right, out the factory its a proper lemon.
Blob sti is the best 👌
Defo my favourites as well
I’ve got one and it’s a widetrack but the best is the first the 92 type ra
Commented on the Audi video the other day, I actually had one of these as well, wife sold it in 2007 for a Kia Sorento when happy mistake #2 came along. 😂☹️🤦
I feel your pain, you should have seen my Mrs face when I brought this home...... Not amused haha
Should have got a new wife
It's good you call it an Impreza
Nice one, looking at one as we speak 😀
Did you get it?
@@RobinsonsSelectCarReviews was very close but life came in between (moving). Will continue the search in 2 months or so. A 2005 blobeye is basically on the top of my list, such cool cars. They're only appreciating pretty fast so waiting is costly 🙄
Cracking vid 👍
cheers mate 👍🏼 :)
Hi mate, Love the video... Do you still own the car? Do you have an instagram page? Cheers
Does this have equal length or unequal length headers?
Quality
mint 😀
Great review. I'm looking to upgrade from my ep3 type r to one of these as my weekend fun car. Why do you say its money pit? I'm looking to spend about 11k so it so will be looking for one with about 70k is there anything I should be aware of?
Thanks mate, you definitely wont be disappointed, but nowadays they can suffer with rust/rot and the seals start to fail etc, so it's just the maintenance I'm referring to in terms of it being a money pit.. When you view them i'd check the suspension, the subframe which is prone to rotting and above all else listen to the engine with the bonnet up for any knocking noises, which might indicate its on its way out. Also if they have a blow off dump valve it can be bad for the engine so id recommend a recirculating valve instead.
@@RobinsonsSelectCarReviews Thanks for the advice I'm going to get a buying guide to have a look over before I go look at any 👍
What colour is this it looks like a off silver of some kind looks trick
The colour is Crystal Grey, it kind of changes in different lights. Its the best colour of this era Impreza in my opinion.
Is it common for the ringlands to go ? Lovely motor mate . 👌
Thanks mate, i'm not actually sure about that to be honest, I've never had an issue during my ownership though
it's common on 2.5s
2.5's had a lot of issues with headgaskets, rings and then the hawk eyes also had some faulty oil pickups which would crack and immediately grenade the engine
the GD generation ej20T usually only dies to bad maintenance or neglect, they're super sensitive to oil change frequency or otherwise the bearings go.
How do I know if I got a wide track
If you look at the rear wheel arches there's a little extra bit of trim that comes out on the widetrack versions. Also the steering wheel on these is all black whereas the non-widetrack versions had a grey centre on the steering wheel. The widetrack versions also have DCCD and the previous version doesn't :)
@@RobinsonsSelectCarReviews just so you know the wide track blobeye Sti is available without the dccd in certain markets and were parallel imported to the uk
2.0l ou 2.5l..?
2.0 mate, its the 2005 blobeye widetrack
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Coilovers 😂😂😂 I can see you bouncing around like snoop Dogg with hydraulics
Haha honestly mate it was nearly unbearable, I've got standard suspension on now and it's miles better
@@RobinsonsSelectCarReviews glad to hear it. 😄
Money pits! Haha
