- Martin the Subaru Impreza has now been fully tuned, and Mike has decided to take him to the Scottish Isle of Arran to give the car a proper shakedown. Now sporting over 500bhp, is this WRX STI now the ultimate British country road monster?

As much as I love the editing on drivetribe, I often wish we could see a few more POV’s and unedited sections to really get a feel for the car. I love to feel like I’ve semi experienced what it would be like to drive, maybe just me. Great videos as usual though, always looking forward to an upload 👍
yeah a lot of the shots are just him talking. You could show a POV and still have the voiceover! I think that would be so much more immersive
@@Kixuf12 exactly this. Just a few minutes segment with talking would be 👌
These videos are such a disappointment. Too rushed. And a bit of a pretentious presenter
@@eddie5980yeah man I think that to
Well if ever a car had a spiritual home outside of its manufacturer of origin, the Subaru Impreza in Scotland would be it.
Maybe Maine in the winter there's already loads of Suubs there.
@@ComicusFreemanius colin mcrae
Agreed!
The roads are majestic and worth going to explore.
Yeah, I'd say Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine. Can't swing a stick without hitting a subbie there.
Ever been to Norway?
I wish there was more of a deep dive into the engine mods but this video made me miss my GD
I believe there’s a video going over all the details, scroll back a bit to 2 months ago on the channel and there’s a video called building Richard Hammonds Subaru.
@@leifnisi5345 those I saw. I was hoping for a final montage of the engine bay
When the car is finally delivered to Richard they'll probably look at the engine, I reckon
Same here.
Planning to buy another one?
@@WarriorsPhoto I ponder it a lot
I live on Arran (for 34 years). I passed you a few times (and the blue transit custom). Great video, some great drone shots showing views I have never seen myself.
Will be nice too see some car enthusiast clubs or just drivers coming over. Better than the groups of cyclists 😂
As long as they don't drive dangerously and ruin it for everyone
@@andrewallan5090yes, like all those muppets around the Nürburgring area.
am in Edinburgh, i done dukes pass that mike mentioned a few months, by the looks of it, isle of arran will be next year. arran looks absolute stunning.
Cyclist Mecca you say? I've got the dentist job, the lycra and the mandatory beer gut. Booking to come.
@BRMCaptChaos 😄 I am sure you would have a great time here. It is only the inconsiderate cyclist groups that are annoying. Some areas can be difficult to overtake a cyclist at the best of times. Plenty steep hills to test your leg strength! I am by no means a spokesman for the island, but the video does some great justice to the beauty of the island (on a sunny day) 👍
Rocking the 🇰🇪 wristband...
Big Subaru enthusiasts over on this side. Great content👊🏽
I can’t think of any other channel that has frequent mandatory ads every few minutes and includes ads in the actual content to the degree drivetribe does 😕
Just skip the in video ones, it’s CZcams lol
Adblock my friend.
CZcams premium. No ads for me
Shell would like to thank the drive tribe for the opportunity to host the show
Man that dragged on
I always wonder why they bother sticking those ads in there, I FFWD through them in their entirety every single time. People actually watch them?
@@cooksup dude, tell me about it.
Can I just say that I think Mike Fernie is doing a great job?
It's calm, yet not boring. Keep it up!
Yes, I've really enjoyed watching Mike come into his own as a presenter, developing his own style and cadence. Great job!
Its about time Drivetribe and Mike did some cool stuff. Almost unsubscribed when they tried to test the Ford's top speed on a short runway.
Honestly think Mike is doing a terrible job. He’s really wasted drivetribe for me and as a fellow Scot I’m tired of the corniness and terrible patter 😢
Mike is an awful host
Skip his sections, hard to listen too
Nice video guys. Was a pleasure filming with you for the other channel - the video has been well received here! Cheers, Jake
It's very enjoyable to watch you drive these cars. Your enthusiasm for the car and even the landscape is infectious.
Top quality video. Can tell Richard is apart of Drivetribe. The production is something of similar to top gear/ grand tour. Also, this guy.. he can present. Bravo.
It doesn't matter what you're driving; if you're in Scotland, it will be the ride of your life. From Loch Lomond to Glencoe, from the islands to the Highlands, from North Berwick to Edinburgh, every mile of road is impressive in its own right. Especially Glencoe, that place is truly special. Drive it if you can!
stay away from Edinburgh city center though, pothole center there. lol. the rest is nice though.,
Came for the car, stayed for the beauty of the island! :D
I see you got a bracelet with a Kenyan flag. Beautiful
I've got STI, but I live 2400km from that beautiful island. Great episode. Thank you for sharing this gem to the world.
Wish they built May's EVO
May's car was proper trollied after his accident, the whole chassis was twisted and bent. A complete write off. A shame really.
The dent on the hood is still there 😅
Bonnet
I'm in love with the road, in love with the car, and in love of what Mike is doing... what a video.
That particular stretch of road is truly epic! Coming south is just as special and you get a better line of sight to avoid the cyclists!
The Ross road was also brilliant but the road is in such a state now its only open for access to the forestry land.
What’s police presence like on Arran?
@@jryallsstrong. Regular speed traps
I was very surprised at the lack of cyclists. Probably edited out 😂
I have a USA version of Martin it’s my USDM 2004 STi all set up just like a UK V limited as it can be. Group N rally stated the transmission has to be the one in the production car. Those Group N rules were what gave the production car that very special transmission. Love what Pole Position did with this EJ motor.
Shame the US didnt get the EJ207 in the STI
The Group N cars had Hewland dogring gearsets, 5 speed as per regulation but in the original 6 speed housing. More to do with faster gearchanges, possibility to not use clutch and less drivetrain losses than with strenght.
It's not turbo stall it's compressor surge its just blades chopping the air it doesn't slow the turbo down by any measurable amount
Agree
Seems like a silly idea to "delete" the BOV though, as I understand it (i.e. more pressure where it shouldn't be). Would you be able to elaborate on the downsides?
@@groadoswagginsMaybe by deleting he means they put a recirculating valve on? I’m pretty sure a bypass valve is what the car comes with stock not a blow off valve
@@Refinedcarz It doesn't have any valve, that is why it flutters.
Loved the little rally graphic at the end. Great vid!
I've not long picked up a MK.5 manual Supra and you've just given me the exact place I'm taking it next summer, Thanks Mike! Martin is outstanding and I like that it's not overly rowdy.
Room for improvement with the side banner decal. Very nice car. It’s giving me an ‘I want a Subaru’ day.
Been visiting arran my whole life, being from the west coast of Scotland. Was there last month and drove the full loop - it’s just awesome. Need to take my turbo eg civic and 88 cbr400 there. Really great to see it getting the love it deserves.
i love these casual reviews/drives that arent overdramatised or all for effect and clicks. makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside listening to a proper car guy talk about stuff rather than some influencer style personality
Great vid, car has come a long way. What a beautiful island!
I love that mike's just holding an iron bru in the beginning , true Scotsman !
You can't beat Arran. A very special place indeed. If never been. GO! It's that simple. 🚙
Great work everyone. Beautiful film
That Subaru sounds amazing. It practically sings.
This car is so great and has put a smile on my face just watching it on the road in the film. Such a great and emotional film! Thank you!
Everything and everyone involved in this video is absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. Thank you Mike Fernie, Hammond and Drivetribe for this cinematic masterpiece. I've never seen a video which explains the deep love such a large community has for Subarus before.
WELL DONE GENTLEMEN!
Including the Shell petrol station?
This is what I'd love to see the gang do! Proper modified cars... The latest and greatest super / hyper cars are great and all but it's not the same... Still love the fact that May drove the Evo on the last special. Absolutely wonderful.
Loved this video and love that car.. how it must feel to tear down that road in one of these.. Also love that a fellow Scot is such a prominent figure in CZcams car culture 💯
Great video Mike, thoroughly enjoyed it.
I shoot videos for a living and I have to say this is absolute perfection! Just epic, hats off to all involved
Living within visual distance of Arran and knowing about it I'm really happy to see it in the spotlight 🎉😮😊
Great choice of watch, Mike, love the PRX!
I've loved watching this series. That Subaru looks so gorgeous now, and those new decals look great too! (also glad to know the bonnet is getting fixed!) and showing off the beauty my home country of Scotland is always a treat! I can't wait to see Richard drive it!
Best vid yet production is way up many thanks
what a stunning view, and what a great video, congrats!
This is what being an enthusiast is…. My arthritis has taken a lot from me but not my love of cars and the beauty of the world….one day I wanna go to these places and just…drive. Thank you boys at drivetribe ❤
Thank you for sharing. I love Subaru's. I live in Appalachia in Virginia. That car needs to make a trip here. I'll show you roads you will love. If I ever get to the UK, this is on my list. Thanks again.
Watching from Nairobi; excellent video, love the car, love the wrist band!
Martin!!! Glad to see you back and even better!
Been following this series for a while now and have just purchased an 05 blobeye type UK. Thankfully already with a built engine and hybrid turbo, i may very well visit the isle of arran to experience the roads for myself!
I booked a trip to Arran immediately after watching this video when it came out. Always on the lookout for a new place to visit in Scotland. Beautiful place, 5 nights we were there and drove these roads in my mk5 Ed30 Golf Gti. Had to hold back though as wife was with me 😆 Glad I did to be honest, stunning scenery coming down from Lochranza back to Brodick.
Keep the bonnet dent!! Part of the car’s unique history! Loved the episode 👍🏻
I have some great memories of our GCSE trip to Aaron. What a week.
Loving that engine sound 😊
Great build. My daily is an STI, it's my 2nd one. I just love these cars. If I wanted more power than stock, I'd do a similar build on mine. Taking mine to Scotland would be a dream come true.
Daily my STI also. I'm building it once its out of warranty to similar power goals of this one.
@@airborneSGT Mine is well out of warranty. I have a 2016 HyperBlue. If the EJ ever gives out, I'm going with an IAG and this kind of power too.
@@justinkey4895 yup exactly what I would do as well
Awesome video and what an achingly beautiful place.
Did the NC500 just last month in my Subaru. It was as beautiful as always up there.
Fantastic video!
Sorry was there a car review hidden between the commercials for Iron Brew, Shell V-Power, Bridgestone tyres, Pole Position Engineering, HKS Exhausts and the Arun Tourist Board?!
A working ferry. Incredible.
Shut it....
Boats are fine........
I want to see Richard Drive it!
Thank you for saving this piece of history.
I have driven on the roads on the Isle of Arran. Can be very challenging in adverse weather conditions, but a dream to drive when dry.
You need to come to Vermont, each year in Stowe is the UK car meet in the US. Some of our winding roads and spectacular views are worth checking out. VT242, VT58, VT114, VT12, there’s a place in Milton that builds rally cars.
Been to many a geology field trip to Arran, what a place!
Mike is such a brilliant presenter.
What a beautiful island😊 Strong Impreza)
That's a beautiful island. I actually want to go there now
Very nice photo and edit! ❤🇸🇪
The car is absolutely stunning. Love to see it back. The transmission, however, up until the Blobeye model was called "glass", because it would break under any extra pressure. Thankfully they fixed it quite a bit, though!
The Sti 6speed box has never been glass. That's the 5spd base/wrx boxes.
I was refering to the 5speed, sorry.@@tylerthepally637
A defining moment of my childhood for me was being at Rally Wales GB in about 2002 with my dad and uncle and hearing a stewards whistle, then an impreza rally car coming round the corner at full beans, then getting a face full of gravel. I think Petter Solberg was driving. I wish Subaru and Mitsubishi were still taking chunks out of eachother like they used to.
Similar thing with me. Seeing Colin flat out through a chicane some where on top of the Rhigos mountain early one morning. Wow. Will always remember that
one of the reasons I love Richard ❤
I'm jealous. My gf8 only achieved 269bhp at wheels but I'm so gonna put that trip on my bucket list
There is a great twisty stretch between Lochranza and pirnmill 👍🏻
What a great car in one of the most beautiful places in the world!
Now that is is a nice touch. I see that the dings in the bonnet have been left as is.
Yes, I did vote that it should be left as a character mark.
Thanks also for taking it on a run on Arran, it really is beautiful.
He said at he end they are repairing the bonnet and thank fck for that
@@MudSluggerBPit should be kept.
After the previous road trip videos, I was in the Lake District, so I visited Richard's favourite road, and made my own video of it: czcams.com/video/wYWGYMa-J6Y/video.html It is indeed an absolutely beautiful area!
Gorgeous!
@@virtualsoran Thank you 😀 The Lake District is stunning!
Arran is also home to the craziest bus drivers in the UK! Its impossible to stay in your seat, but really fun😋
Awesome video and thank you for growing back your beard.
I didn't watch the whole thing because I daily a tuned 07 legacy GT estate. With proper wheels, tires, and some suspension mods the platform really livens up with increased stability approaching super car levels. A real 911 killer!
I had a 2006 Subaru Liberty (Legacy) Estate 3R Spec-B. Sold it. Deeply regret that.
@@guvnor1971 6 cyl legacy is legend! with 396lbs just forward of the front wheels versus 262 lbs of the ej, I imagine it handed similar to an audi without the sigma and ire of the "hurr durr you're goona blow a headgasket" people
Ive been to Scotland once, went and did the NC500, its a stunning place.
I own the 18 wrx model and live in Ontario where everything is flat and fairly boring so seeing scotland like this is a whole experience I wish I could have.
Spotted Martin in Combe Down, Bath a couple of weeks back. Recognised it immediately outside the local co-op! 🤣
Wow. I saw one interview of Richard and Jason Plato where Jason asked Richard his fantasy road and which car he would be driving. And Richard's answer was a subaru in lake district. And now that fantasy of his is going to be realized. What else do you want in life :)
My first time to watch your vloge but I like how you present my country Kenya with the brestlate on your hand I just subscribed right away kenye
Really enjoyed that 💙
Great trip great car and great presenter.
Looking and sounding great would of made the drivetribe banners yellow to match the others instead of having 2 different coloured decal lettering just my opinion though love the Subaru and the build
Stunning video quality
As a 05 sti widetrack owner, I approve of this video 👍❤
I will never forget my time driving across the Starlight highway in tekapo nz in my 98 sti wrx ver 6 ❤ most beautiful place in the world
Need to see this Subie vs MCM's new Levorg ;). Absolutely awesome little car!
Excellent vid, just wondering what watch you're wearing, is it the Tissot T-Classic PRX Watch in Green? As it looks awesome.
Keeping the bonnet on the wall with grill nice lil momento
Loving the PRX on the wrist too....
Scotland is so beautiful. very nice video!
i miss my 2004 Subie(((((((((( Thank you, Mike for this amazing video ...
