Coming from someone who has highly modified their s2k i agree. Now its much more harsh and noisey and make way too much power and work. When it was stock it was a smooth road car and very well behaved.

I bought my '07 back in 2018....Flew up to DC from Florida to check it out, beautiful clean Laguna blue, 72k mile car, new top, at a dealer, for 18k. Put it on a lift, checked out the undercarriage, suspension, test drove it....Loved it, bought it, then drove it back to FL....18.5 hours straight....Some people have complained about the seats, but I have to say the seats were assume for me, I'm 5'11"...they made the trip so comfortable. I also own a '93 Mazda RX7 R1, I've had for 25 years, love the car, but after 2 hours driving, my right leg goes numb! The driving position in the S2000 is so perfect, compared to the RX7. I've restored a '67 XKE, two Austin Healey 3000's, Porsche's, BMW's, many RX7's....After owning the S2000 for 3 years, doing all the maintenance myself, I think it's the best drivers car I've ever owned, it makes you feel like part of the car....If you're thinking of buying one, don't wait, the price keeps going up on these cars, it's a classic!

If you modify it, make sure the mods are reversible so you can remove the parts if you ever sell it. A bone stock s2k just keeps going up in value. Also, don't roll or hack up fenders/quarters by putting wheels that don't fit.

    • @jesseperez1869

Best advice ever. I regret doing fender rolls on my 5th gen prelude to achieve that stupid negative chamber stance look which I grow out of it. I now own a 05 s2000 and I do plan on leaving it stock as a weekend car.

While I agree mostly with the folks saying no mods, I have to recommend good coilovers and a Tanabe medallion exhaust. These cars look best with a mild drop and sound so great with a conservative exhaust like the Tanabe. Makes the car perfect.

glad you are enjoying your newish s2000, i bought mine about a year ago and put so many miles on it. and i agree with many of the things you have said. i do drive it with the top down all the time as well, mine is a 2001 berlina black, i have added the dual hi power hks exhaust, its perfect honestly,, and a few mods but intake wise i just remove the lid from the intake box because the stock intake is super well engineered from honda. and you get the sound, try it.. i am soon to run out of tires as well, iam thinking about the hankook ventus rs4.. soon for a track day i am planning.. anyway man lets make that 5things i hate and love video.. Despite owning many more powerful cars, the S2000 is my favourite car. Out of the factory they are near perfect so mods will only detract from the car and, as they are becoming collectible, mods will reduce value. Mine is totally stock and it's often the fastest car on track (in the dry), it's all about driving in a way that gets the best from it.

Congrats on the S2K!! New CTRs are great but not NA like this beauty. I'm on my 2nd here in the UK. prices are lower but tax is high and insurance is brutal if you're under 40 so puts off a lot of people buying. Get the UK mod as suggested to waken her up! and open up the airbox internally to get some more induction noise. Maybe a ducktail spoiler but keep it minimal, it has beautiful lines from factory. I'm looking at changing my tyres, how are your PS4s? The s2k needs a stiff tyre wall really affects the handling, what tyres are people running/recommending?

I just replaced the clutch master cylinder plus the slave cylinder myself, and changed all the fluids. I like my Michelin Pilot Sport tires. With every after market part, you will spend extra $ while de-valuing your car. Tacky. Your admirers will respect the original design, and it’s heritage much more than intakes, exhaust and bling . Remember the dingle balls, hood scoops, and jacked up cars? I would do the 255 rear tires ,which were stock on the late CR 2000. Enjoy this baby!

Man, that's an excellent find you have there. If it's the only car you own at present, consider buying a cheap beater? I'd also recommend not to mod it too heavily (unless you're going to add a supercharger). Loud cars can be hard to live with during the mating season. :) I say leave it pristine and enjoy it for what it is. You did say it feels special, after all. Don't stiffen the suspension unless you're going to make it a track or autocross car. Find a good indy shop for maintenance and repairs. Just my opinion.

The only upgrade I consider over this car is the 2004 Acura NSX. EVs and euro cars are nice but doesn't have the same character as the s2000. Today car brands don't use simplicity in cars anymore. Fat tablets in the cars today look very tacky and ridiculous.

    I own a 2008 that I bought in 2019 81k miles.
    I have:
Flushed and replaced all the fluids
Replaced the serpentine belt ( easy)
New plugs, did not really need to I found out
Cleaned and lube the shifter (a must if it has not been done and its easy).
Installed an aftermarket cam chain tensioner in the factory color (Ballard if I am spelling it right) That was easy
Put a factory battery in it
Replaced the front and rear OEM lites with new OEM lites.
Replaced three sticking brake calipers (I will replace the last one when it starts sticking)
Leaned how to use the hood prop on the passenger for easier maintenance (there is factory hole for it)
Installed a drilled rotor brake kit and new brake lines, painted the calipers red
New OEM top and then had to replace all the seals because the top does not come with the seals (GET A OEM ONE IF YOU HAVE TO REPLACE IT, IT IS WORTH IT)
Located all the hidden storage compartments
Installed and LHT brake brace (and it did make a difference)
    Installed a HKS cat back
Check your clutch valve, you will it leaking if you see residue, peek under the dash where the clutch pedal is at, its there.
Went one size on the rear from 245 to 255 wide, no rub issues or cruse issues, no advantage of any kind, just my choice Conti Extremes all around factory front size
Mine was bone stock also, all matching panel stickers, no rust not abused at all, I got mine right before the prices went bonkers.
I cant stay out the damn thing. I agree top down is the way to go.
Maybe Ohlions later but the factory Showa's are not bad and I can't drive the thing nowhere near it potential. But I don't care and of all the cars I have owned I have never gotten as many thumbs up, or that's really nice, or what the hell is that etc.
    Hope this helps

The S2K is a car that likes to be driven hard, but it is not nor was it intended to be a muscle car. I've owned an AP1 and currently have an AP2, the rear end that sometimes wants to be a front end and the lack of steering feel are my only real gripes. Sticky tires (Bridgestone Potenza S-04) and a CR rear spoiler help with those issues and are easy to do. Don't get a cheap spoiler, you will regret it. Most aftermarket spoilers are for adding "cool," not stability. The trunk lid must be reinforced to deal with downforce or you will end up with a warped lid. But as long as you don't let off the gas abruptly in sweepers, the light rear end really isn't a huge problem.
Although sellers claim aftermarket exhaust systems add power, that's a bunch of hooey. Yeah, you will annoy your neighbors and turn heads when accelerating, but that's about it. Supercharging is an option, but think about it: Why does someone add a supercharger to an S2K? Probably because they want to drag Mustangs and Challengers at stop lights, that's why (helpful hint: Mustangs and Challengers will probably still beat you to the next stop light). So when the time comes that you want or need to sell, someone looking for a clean S2K is going to think twice about buying one with a supercharger for obvious reasons. Easy performance enhancement: Switch to AMSOIL lubricants. Smoother trans, smoother acceleration, only have to change engine oil once a year (no, I don't sell their products, but they work).
I'm a firm believer that Shigeru Uehara forgot more about engineering than I will ever know, which is why my S2K is mostly stock and going to stay that way.

Prepare for classic issues. TCT, Master Clutch Cylinder , Cracked valve retainers and some others.
As tyres i use OEM types for my AP1. Potenza RE002. They try to slide when you push them hard in the corners but controllable . I like them for this type of playful RWD car

@F20s since you mentioned those common potential issues, what’s your take on disabling the clutch bypass switch to extended engine life? It seems like a heated topic online, but it also seems like the wear to the thrust bearing upon startup is a legitimate topic of conversation!

    • @endlesstwisties
      @endlesstwisties Před 3 lety

@@corey31 i didn't read about that. I just changed my Master Cylinder last week and everything seems ok. But is the first issue i have in 3 years after a broken sway bar at the track

    • @corey31
      @corey31 Před 3 lety

The startup wear is probably a case of me reading too much into online forums and not truly an issue. The master cylinder is a common but simple fix, and the upper mounts for the front suspension on AP1 cars that are heavily tracked since they aren’t seam welded like AP2. Since your sway bar went, I’d take a look at this connection point as well just to be safe!

    • @CreepinCreeper145
      @CreepinCreeper145 Před 3 lety

TCT & Master Clutch Cylinder yes, but AP2 valve retainers don't crack. That's why AP1 owners switch to AP2, they're thicker. If your AP2 has been taken care of with regular oil changes, you shouldn't have oil consumption during VTEC, that's mostly an AP1 problem. If you do have consumption, clean/change your PCV valve.

    Things to watch out for:
    TCT Tensioner
    Valve Adjustment
    IACV
Clutch gives out around 180k miles
Burns about 1 quart every 1k miles or month if daily driven
    Ideal mods:
    cold air intake
    225 F 255 R Tires
    Cooling Plate
Hardtop (i know i know but damn i love da hardtop look more)
Thats about it. Da s2000 is one of those cars da less u do da more better it is.

or not... if you wont use it for track/racing only sure ITB is good but not really otherwise. I've learn it on my own experiments, sure it's now more powerful with ITB but it's less good for daily or even weekend trips. I would not touch the engine at all, it is one of best engines made by Honda, reliable as well.
