I have watched a lot of production content on CZcams. Your content is by far the best for me in terms of production techniques and explanation of these techniques. It has been invaluable for me personally and I continue to support you in everything you do. Thanks and good luck. Please keep us updated and informed. Good luck my friend.
That means the world to me, thank you so much for the feedback! 💯🙌🏻
The very best with the shift into pure ocean bliss with your two little angels brother. As a father having access to nature every day for the children is soul essential. Well done
Big hugs 🤗🤗🎶🎼🎵
Thank you so much, it means a lot 💯🙌🏻
Really love the new direction of the channel! I’d love to hear more about overcoming perfectionism in a future video :)
Awesome topic, I have a lot to say about this ;)
I just did the same two weeks ago. I moved from Atlanta, which is currently known as the new hot spot of the Movie and Film industry, to a smaller city called Charleston, located in South Carolina, right by the ocean. I downsized my studio by putting a lot of my gear in storage for now. No regrets 💙 I have two boys and they love being by the ocean and have experiences outdoors.
Awesome, so good to hear that your boys are digging it! My kids love the beach as well and I can't get enough of the ocean either.
Hi Philip. I did pretty much the same about 15 years ago. I had a successful career in Germany, both as producer and musician, but at some point I decided that I wanted to live away from big cities, back in the Italian Dolomites (where I come from) and closer to my family. I certainly work less than in the past (...the world and the musicbiz both changed A LOT in the last years anyway...), but I never regretted my decision. All the very best to you and your family.
That’s so great to hear! Thanks for sharing your experience with me!
As someone that has been doing this for over 20 years, and has experienced both success and loss, the simple lesson is chase your happiness. Family first is a strong motivator for good decision-making.
An amazing story, may your family be blessed with abundance.
Hi Philip, thanks for transparency and sharing your journey. I think this is exactly the kind of content YT needs. My family and I came to a similar conclusion and we recently moved to Portugal. Conscious lifestyle design is so important and we realised we also wanted something different than Hamburg and Zürich in our case could offer us. Valencia is a beautiful city and I am sure you will enjoy the change of pace after Berlin. Congrats on the bold move and all the best for your and your family!
Oh nice, what a great move! So happy to hear that. Where in Portugal are you? I really love it as well and it was high up on the list of potential places ;)
@@pickyourselfofficialwe re in the south close to Beja. If you re ever in the area drop by!
Welcome to Spain! As a Spaniard that lived for 3 years in Stockholm and returned to Madrid I can understand your move, especially with children. It's easier to do it when they're still that young. Also there are many Germans in that region, just don't forget to learn some Spanish if you can't speak it yet, it will make your life easier and you will integrate faster with the locals.
I'm not planning to visit Valencia region soon, but if I do it in the future I would be glad to have some tapas and beers.
Enjoy your new city!
Nice, that sounds great ;) I‘m already fluent in Spanish which makes it much easier for sure.
Wow! Wish U The best. You're on track
Good on you Philip ! You should be proud of yourself. Thanks for all your help so far and looking forward to future videos and insights 🙏🏽 also my parents are from Alicante and I can assure you it’s quite beautiful there
You did the right thing! I moved away from Berlin 7 years ago for exactly the same reasons, kids and family well-being!
Great to hear that, all the best to you and your family! 💯🙌🏻
I was never freezing more than the winter I spent in Spain. ¡Suerte! Schöne Grüße aus dem Dicken B.
veery interesting - i relate to this on a number of levels.
Lived a couple of years in Berlin before capitulating (as you said, winters are toooo harsh, and people aren't the nicest let's be honest), have two kids and recently moved out of my studio and back home to a living room setup.
Miss the studio sometime, but the added benefit of 1. saving money 2. flexibility of working time is soooo worth it. Today i got up at 06 to start working on something before the kids wake up. That's super valuable to me!
Very curious to see what's coming up on this channel, love the takeaways here, that we truly don't need a lot, and wow that hasn't been more true than it is right now, with where we are computewise. All the best.
Yes, it’s mindblowing how accessible technology is these days. Okay, it’s still a rather expensive setup I’m rocking, gotta be honest. But even with mid-priced alternatives one can deliver outstanding quality if the skills and knowledge allow for it.
As a new client of yours and a super happy one with the mastering of my track I am thoroughly convinced you are doing the right thing. Let’s face it, you are working for your own company and family so having your health happiness as an ongoing conscious effort will reflect positively on the work you deliver.
Congratulations, these decisions are never easy. I moved from the UK to Canada and built a new life from scratch and it’s been a blast.
Keep up the amazing work both on YT, coaching and mastering!
Haha wie geil. Als du den ersten Clip aus dem Fenster und den am Strand gezeigt hast, dachte ich schon „ey das sieht aus wie Valencia“😅
I love this. I wish you all the best.
I love your mind, music style and production knowledge so I'm very interested in all your endeavours and view points. Thanks for sharing Phillip, keep it coming :).
That’s awesome, thank you so much for the comment!
There's something liberating about dismantling all the machine's and just working in a clean minimal environment
Well worded! 💯🙌🏻
I support you Philip , best of luck and wish you and your loved ones all the best in this transition and in life in general
Thank you, it really means a lot!
Congratulations for your move Philip sounds like the best decision! your videos are helping me so much on my production journey. Look forward to more vids 🙂
Thanks so much, Victoria, that means a lot and feedback like this is what keeps me going!
"Don't' worry, you're on the right path".. those were some impactful words coming out from you my friend, a big life lesson right there!
These kind of human stories always benefit many creative people out there, so thanks for being transparent and daring to share your life changes with everyone, huge respect!
Oh and Valencia is an amazing city, i lost some close friends who also decided to chase the sun and beach vibes down there in Spain so i fully get that life decision. Enjoy every second with your family and keep sharing your new sunny story with us! ☀🏖
Thanks so much for that great comment, I really appreciate it! You’ve made my day :)
Good luck on your new move, new life and studio set up. I'm going to keep in mind the credo 'Life beyond perfectionism'. Thank you! 😊
Thanks so much, that means a lot!
yes! would love to see your current workflow and the hardware/software you're using. the more details the better! cheers!
Okay will do it then :)
Having just moved from Berlin to a smaller city as a stepping stone to somewhere else I can totally understand the reasoning for the move. Valencia is an amazing city… good luck:)
Oh! I’m also a successful composer:)
Oh nice, that’s great to hear! Where did you end up or what’s your plan if I may ask?
I totally understand you, I did the same thing 7 years ago. I now live in Tenerife...
Love that place! So many great corners. I still remember climbing down from Masca to the coast ;)
Good luck for your next step. And sometimes it's good to make such a move to be grounded again. Thumbs up, Philipp.
Thanks so much, Henning!
Happy for you, thinking about the same move in the coming years. Interested in the setup and gears in a video tour!
Okay great then I’ll do a walkthrough in the next video :)
Following the example of your channel's name: Pick Yourself. Glad to see it Philip! Super happy for you and your family and thank you for all your content.
Thanks mate! 🙌🏻💯
Interesting point you have here. Good luck for the future!
Thanks so much!
Very inspiring video Philip! I’m going to enjoy my Mac - Headphones - 32 Key keyboard setup even more after watching this! Many greetings from Málaga.
Your comment means a lot to me, thank you! Málaga is amazing as well, I've been there and loved it. I'll revisit it for sure! Good luck with your music, you got this!
Having moved 3 bedroom studios (and worked out of pro studios from time to time on projects) myself while being a professional in the music industry, I completely relate to this. Thanks for sharing man! That must be liberating af!
So true! Thanks for sharing your experience as well. We need to be more open about how much (or how little) a badass studio actually matters.
Great move Philipp, enjoy life in Spain at a hopefully lower pace than Berlin, and I'll definitely drop a line if I'm going to be in your area 🙂
Thanks so much! Let’s chat some time, you‘re helping a lot of people with your channel it seems :)
Great decision and the right move!
Yeahhh! 💯🙌🏻
Interesting... thanks for sharing! 😎👍
Keep up the great work... subscribed.
Thanks so much 💯🚀
Yes for the current set up / tour!
Okay great, gonna happen ;)
I new where you was as soon as I saw that beach 😃 it’s one of favourite places I’ve been to
Haha, nice!
I love your content and will support you wherever you are. I have grown somewhat with your help. I am building and upgrading as much as I can so I like what you said about mixing and mastering with what ever you have available. I am at this point where I want to be able to understand why things are done and want to be create no matter what I have before I take the next step, as tools, fancy plugins and equipment wont help me If I don't understand what I am doing...All the best for your new endeavor and good luck.
That is so great to hear! Whenever I notice that someone truly makes progress thanks to a tutorial, it makes my day. Thanks for sharing this!
Great video ! I believe your life decision will resonate with many of us , and in other hand that would be more practical tips we can learn from you since the bedroom producers are the ones who spend more times in CZcams .
I’ll do my best to ship some valuable insights :)
Inspirational video and good luck in Spain!!
Thanks so much!
very interesting, I am not at your level but same setup, however would love to see the details of your setup, great content, keep it up!
Alright, will do a quick walkthrough of the setup then :)
Good video both motivational and educational: your biggest asset is your mind not the biggest speaker. Good move, I have to admit that I'm jealous; I live in crazy London and sometimes I miss Romania & Bucharest. All the best! 🔈🔉🔊
Thanks a million, and great to hear that you're thinking in the same veins from time to time. We can't have it all, can we?
Love these type of vlogs
Thank you, that’s great to hear!
Yeah! Alles beste euch! ❤🙌
Danke dir
Quite inspiring, as always
Thanks so much! 🫶🏻
can 100% follow your decision. BTW i am a 90ies trance producer with several releases, that you helped with your tutorials to get back into music production using the latest tools. Thanks to that i now have already signed with labels and releasing again. Keep up the great work and enjoy your new place and bedroom studio👍👍☀️
Curious: considering you were pro enough to release tunes decades ago, what have you recently learned with todays tools and techniques that have made the biggest difference?
Oh nice, that’s awesome to hear! Really cool to see people like you get tangible results!
@@ghfjfghjasdfasdfHi, its a bitbdifficult to bring this down to exact knowledge bits. I would say, that i learned how to use new DAW and plugins in the most effective way to generate release ready music. Since the 90ies technology has vastly improved. I came from pure outboard equipment with analog mixer, external effects, outboard mastering like TC finalizer and Cubase as a midi sequenzer. Now i use Ableton and only SW plugins. It was a learning curve to get from cubase to ableton and then how to create a good sounding mix in the DAW using all onboard tools available. Good sounding Kick/Bass, lush leads, using modern reverb the right way and advanced sound design with granulator for example . The possibilities are way bigger than back in the 90ies with all the automation within a DAW. You can create effect chains in ableton with a few mousclicks , that would have cost a fortune or were just not possible back then (for example a simple side chainining of a bassline vs. kickdrum was really hard to do in the analoge age.) if you like checkout my new release here:open.spotify.com/album/0nOmOL9feuBSl7pA30xt7Q?si=puRKpK2lT3maO3IXWmpbuA
Thanks for sharing! It’s always cool to hear where people have come from during their production journey!
Wish you luck on your journey!
Thanks so much!
All the best for your relocation. Enjoy living in Spain.
Thanks a million! 🫶🏻
the best shape I was ever in was when I had a chin-up bar between my home studio and the fridge ..
Great choice as a new city to start over. I was just there a few weeks ago and will aslo be moving there this month.. Cong rates
That's awesome, congrats on making it happen!
Sounds like a good move, sunny Spain can’t be bad 😂 all the best !
Thanks so much! Definitely enjoying it so far ☀️🌊
1st. Congrats Philip for your new life!
2.nd. Thumbs up for vlogs👍
It's refreshing:)
3rd. Could you make a video once about the "Creative Berlin"?
A.K.A., The ways to explore the possibilities in Berlin as an electro producer.
Oh super good idea! Yep; it’s on the list :)
I've been having similar thoughts for a while now and this video is making me even more confused. Health and Lifestyle first! Great content as Always 🤜
I was in that confusing realm for more than a year before finally committing to the decision. Some things in life take time to unfold but we have to give them the space to do so. Thanks so much for the great feedback!
@@pickyourselfofficial 🙏🙏
Your content makes more sense now. When you’re living a full life as a spouse, parent, & friend on top of technical expertise, you MUST have a creatively systematized view of producing. It can be fulfilling (and a career if that’s the case) while being only one of a few “lanes” of your life. Your passion comes thru in your videos but it’s no wonder they are clear and to the point, plus humble-yet-discriminating musical takes.
Basically I follow because of your “enhance the beauty” of something in your music is a philosophy that I resonate with in making music. And sort of life honestly!
I don’t mind these type of videos because the human side to making music is just as important as what buttons we’re pressing!
That is a really deep and meaningful comment, thanks a lot! Yes, I’m convinced it all comes from the true passion paired with a desire to help someone out there. It’s also a great challenge to be concise while still going into the „why“ and first principles. Thanks for noticing!
Great video!💡🎥🎬🎤🕺🏿
Thank you! 💯🙌🏻
Go on. We ♥ you.
That means a lot, thank you so much!
I like this format..
Btw I'm part of your crew ! 🫡
Thanks so much mate, it means a lot to me 💯🚀
i work with limits ,and i have a big studio just is far from the city ,now im on the city in a small apparment ,i get the best i can with my headphone too .
That's amazing to hear! Thanks for sharing :)
Can't beat Spain for lifestyle :) I'm in Ibiza. Struggling a bit with my studio space but you can't have everything !
It's definitely a great lifestyle so far ;-)
New sub. Interesting stuff.
Thank you, really appreciate it! 🙌🏻💯
Sounds like a good choice, am up in Arctic so relate to the insidious effect of darkness/winter on the mind.
What’s your thoughts on VSX Stephen Slate headphones?
Oh wow, that must be tough in the winter for sure! I’d personally prefer a great headphone over an emulation of rooms on headphones. The experience is impressive, for sure! But when it comes to actual mixing and mastering I’m not yet convinced. But I also think it’s highly personal. Some of my colleagues get great results with them. My biggest recommendation: don’t flop through the rooms too much. Learn one or two listening environments REALLY well and only use those. Everything else is just a distraction.
@@pickyourselfofficial Good advice, I’ll do that. Thanks a lot for thorough answer 👌
I actually prefer mixing on headphones. I only use my monitors to reference finished mixes these days.
Definitely possible to work on headphones only. But I have to admit, I also enjoy the luxury of a great room with awesome speakers.
Berlin can be overwhelming, so I respect your decision and plan to do the same honestly. I have one question: Do you think good equipment is necessary for a beginner to learn effectively? A good monitoring system.
Great question! So to me, I'd say fast computer (so you don't have to deal with frustrating glitches), decent audio interface, and midrange-priced headphones are a great starting point. With speakers, you always need acoustic treatment and rarely does a beginner actually get the right stuff and place it correctly. That being said, if you're willing to put in the work and dive deep into acoustic treatment, you can get very far by DIY and combine it with decent speakers. Personal recommendations: RME interfaces, HEDD speakers, Audeze Headphones. Whatever your budget allows for, right now. The REAL truth though is: No equipment will replace the 10.000 hours you'll need to invest ;-) Decent gear can for sure accelerate your learning, but the person who puts in more effort will always outperform the person with the great equipment to begin with. I hope that helps.
Thank you for the detailed response. The 10,000 hours theory truly makes a difference. That could also be an idea for a future video or even a series about the mindset of a music producer.
You should try climbing (if not yet). One of the best crags in the world are nearby🌄
Yeah I might start again, I actually did it in the past. Thanks for the tip!
Keep it up.

How much money did You make from Spotify streams? Where is your gear, did you sell it or is it in storage?
I make my money from mixing and mastering. The production stuff is more 3d sound installations that are location-specific and not available via streaming platforms. I still have the studio on Berlin because this right now is just a test run for 3 months. Then I’ll be back in Berlin and do the real move in 2025. I will for sure build a studio again in Spain ;) But for the time in between the current setup will work perfectly fine.
@@pickyourselfofficial Thats makes more sense.

Hoffe, Du verstehst, was ich sagen will 🙂

I reside in Spain too and live close to your new town, great country to live if you have income from other countries and know how to evade the tax hell that is Spain, sadly there's a LOT of socialism and woke ideologies plus illegal immigration that are ruining the country
Spain is doing just fine, thank you.
