My husband taught me never loan anything that you cannot afford to give away.
my husband has said the same thing to me. It was a hard lesson to learn not to loan money to friends or family and expect to get it back.
Picked that up when I was 15yo and now I'm 32. I live by that rule. Great way to end a friendship ... Quick
I’m not kind enough to be struggling and lending people money anyway. If I give you money it’s a testament to whether you want to be friends or not by whether you pay me back
I think that's a great rule to live by. Honestly, if you're only helping people with the expectation that you'll get something in return or that they'll pay you back someday, then you're doing it for all the wrong reasons. Also, it's a great way to completely tarnish a relationship because you're going to end up with nothing but disappointment and resentment towards that person if they don't end up paying you back.

I noticed that also. I remember when there was some controversy with her and the rap community. Jay-Z and several other rappers was calling her a SELLOUT for having guest musicians on her show, but never inviting rappers. I personally don't blame her, every other lyric in their music was "niggas and bitches". She eventually had him on to discuss the issue.

After Ava Duvernay made it public that she didn't like being called Auntie, like us Black women do as a term of endearment, Oprah & Gayle chimed in. Being called Auntie has nothing to do with age as Ava reported she's not old enough to be called an Auntie. It is part of the Black tradition acknowledging wisdom, respect and a desire to emulate. Emulation being the highest form of flattery and admiration.

I think Oprah was the first person I heard say "If you loan someone money, consider it a gift. If you get it back, consider it a blessing." It's been years upon years and I've never forgotten that. It's how I approach every transaction of that nature.

Lisa DiConti don’t be ashamed of your body! For example you don’t say your ”side thing” when you mention your elbow do you?! The vagina is not ugly, and nor is a part of the body females should be ashamed of. And mothers especially have to break the shame so they don’t teach their daughter/s the same shame. Remove ”down there” and ”that time of the month”. Young boys know early on that they have a penis, while girls aren’t given a proper word for their vagina. What we are taught we know, and it’s time to break the cycle of shame. 💛

She's not a shameful person (she did an hour long show on bowel movements).Oprah has been in front of the camera for over 40 years, she know what appeases her core audience. I've even heard her call it a "Va Jay-Jay" several times. It's just a play on words, she's having fun with it.
It really comes across how good of friends (family by this point) they are. They tell each other the truth when they disagree.
I watched this video because I thought I would learn something about their friendship. I ended up taking so much away that I can apply to my own life!

For the debt of $500, i think its the universe trying to tell her that the friend needs help on such issues. 6years ago, my bff and i had a conversation around money and this liberated me from debt. She helped me make healthy decisions around money. I think sometimes, its good to first see past disappointment and rationally solve the real problem. This will not only help save your friendship, but saves the other person from bad culture around money.
I have always loved them! They are better than a comedy duo; they are so genuine and authentic. I can't believe I'm just finding these videos now. Thank you both for sharing your wisdom.

I learned long ago that if I have it to give, I just give with no expectation. If I feel in my heart not to do so I don't. This has become common practice for me. It just keeps from straining relationships. I agree with Oprah, sometimes you just let people buy themselves off. I cherish the very few people that are close to me.

I think a topic on work relationships would be a good one. Different situations happen at work --colleagues or boss taking credit for your work, people who don't carry their weight, needing to fire someone, learning a new work environment with its own culture, dynamics, key players, etc., and more.

A friend loaned me money and told me I didn't need to pay her back, she said it was a giftt to make it easier for me not to have to repay her; but I repaid her anyway so that she could make a loan to someone else who may have a need. I valued her friendship. We are still friends.

I watch Gayle and Oprah every night.....I am 54 year old women breast cancer free for a year woohoo....I have not missed one Oprah show in 25 year ..Oprah thought me everything I know and to speak English because I spoke French when I started watching you in my twenties....I have eight wonderful girlfriend friendship for 30 years and more....I luv then to pieces they have been with me thought Brest cancer with my wonderful husband..could not have done it without them.....Oprah I even tape all you’re spirit shows...lol I even watch the reruns..xo God bless u both and you’re family’s xo Sophia Giagiakos

I feel the same way but just about anyone 30 and younger (black or white) has different meanings of it. It's a part of their everyday day language and they use it as a term of endearment. If I live to be 100 I would never get adjusted to that word being okay.
