My mother and her best friend have been friends for more than 60 years. This is THEM, totally! True friendship is not easy, and is definitely underrated in today's age....IMO....

@@janejustin1788 I find it's more unusual to find these kind of female friendships. My brother and most of the men I know are still friends with their childhood best friends. I on the other hand don't know any woman (including myself) who is still friends with childhood best friends. Unfortunately in the teen years we had falling outs of stupid stuff and I hear other women saying that's exactly what happened to their childhood best friends too. I think society plays a part in making women very hard on each other and we look at each other as competition.
As a 22 year old it’s amazing to think that I could find a lifelong best friend in my twenties. It’s just nice to know that best friends aren’t just a high school thing. ❤
It is so beautiful to see two unrelated people by genetics to love each other so much like sisters, mother, son and daughter. Their love is so pure, genuine, and angelic.

I love this! Love is patient, love is kind - never calling someone out of their name, being rude or raising your voice. Genuinely loving someone, taking an interest in their life, their interests, cheering them on, being supportive through the good and bad. Sharing laughter and tears, holding each others secrets- God I pray I find a friend like this before I die 💜 and I pray that I am this type of friend for someone else.

A friend like that is once in a lifetime
I had a bestie for 52 years. We shared everything. We had our ups and downs but always came back together. However, in 2019 I was hospitalized for 9 months in CA. My life went from doing ok to losing everything! My bestie said "come back to PA and stay with me". From the time I arrived things were strange. We had never lived together before, let alone with her husband. It didn't help that 2 1/2 months later covid-19 happen. I tried to help out around the house and out in the yard, as best i could. But, instead I was in the way. After living with her and her husband for eleven months and several big big blow ups, I moved into a senior only high rise. We very rarely speak. She went from calling us "family we choose" to, I was "a guest in her house". Naturally, there is a lot more to this story, but the fact remains after 52 years, she broke my ❤️! Be careful! You never know!

You probably overstayed your welcome. As soon as you could you should have got on your feet and be on your way. I would not want no one living with me and my hubby that long. She probably didn’t know how to tell you. I’ve had this happen to me before so I know from experience.
OP must have been pretty sick if she was hospitalized for 9 months. Her bestie should have known that it would take awhile for her to heal and get back on her feet. It's also very hard to find housing in some markets. The friend should have never offered to let her stay if that was the case. I relish in my independence and wouldn't let it get to the point of getting into arguments.
No rivalry, competition, jealousy, envy or fakery. Just kindred spirits who have each other's backs. The kind of best friendship all women would want.

I say this with complete respect, however I really feel for Oprah. I can't even imagine not having anyone in your family to really be there for you. Both my parents failed me, however I at least had both my grandmother and Aunt that I could call no matter what and they would be loving and take an interest in me. I can't imagine not having anyone. That's so hard and painful.
As someone whom was adopted and also parentless with the recent loss of my beloved adopted mother.💔 You said it so very well, not having biological parents to rely on is a deep personal at times very sad pain that never ends. No matter how old I have gotten, or how much I’ve grown, or whenever I am for as long as I live. I’ll always wonder what my life could’ve been like, if I had my parents.😢

Oprah is somewhat disingenuous in her account. Her dad took her in when he wasn't certain she was his biologically. Had he not done that, she wouldn't have had access to the education she has.

It is a blessing to have this type of a friendship. I thought I had one till covid hit, my life changed in some aspects. She could not understand me or stay on in my dark season. It’s alright. I am not bitter; this just shed light on who my friend was.
Their personalities complemented each other from the inception, and most importantly, they allowed it to flourish. You are living your best life in this respect. Congratulations on 46 years of friendship!
Interesting: watching this confirms Oprah and I have a lot in common (I had longterm friendships = no arguments/no yelling/no name-calling, I prefer one-on-one meetings vs partying, I prefer car rides without music, I like to be alone with my thoughts, I’m not extroverted, etc)..

Love this! My bestie and I have been friends for nearly 26 years. We aren't even remotely alike, but we are there for each other. The first years were tumultuous, but once be stopped trying to mold each other into the image of who we each thought we needed our friend to be, things became so easy and gratifying. She's the first person I call when good or bad things happen and she's the only person to see me ugly cry in decades. LOL! Trust me, the work that goes into cultivating close friendships is well worth the effort.
Its crazy amazing how these 2 known each for 46 years and look like 46 we all know these women are way older then that but to age so gracefully its amazing.
I've always loved this friendship. It's such a gift to experience this level of love.

My sista/bbllp/ best friend Dee and I have been friends since Mrs.Busuems class second grade.. teeth missing all in front we laugh about the teachers and classmates up to 5th grade,6th grade we were I different schools...back together 7th grade ...rest his history! I like silence in the car (when driving) to really concentrate on what is going on around me (ambulance, police sirens, hoons). I love the in sync connection you both have. The introvert-extrovert, bookworm- TV social antenna….and Gail reads Oprah’s suggestions. “We are happy and excited for each other’s happiness”. I am so glad you two found each other and Gail was your multifaceted rock and best friend. You obviously really enjoy each other’s company and thoughts.
