    Thanks so much for you’re video’s helped me out to order the right tools. 1 thing i found out jn this video is that you torque down once. In the manual say’s torque down all bolts, the first bolt i could do another 45 degrees after all bolts. I walked all bolts three times to klik them instant.

    • @buildanddrive
      @buildanddrive  Před rokem

      I will have to watch it again to double check ✅ but I remember torquing them properly

  • @iamurnamann8662
    @iamurnamann8662 Před 9 měsíci +1

    Below the solenoids where the head meets the block seeps a little oil if those bolts you fastened at the end break or aren’t torqued correctly. You said you weren’t worried about the torque settings on those four bolts, but if they loosen over time, you’ll get the slight oil seepage. There are a couple of CZcams videos stating the bolt under the manifold is the culprit because the head snaps off, but I’ve seen that bolt in tact and it turned out to be the four internal bolts that weren’t correctly torqued.

    • @buildanddrive
      @buildanddrive  Před 9 měsíci

      Very possible there could be oil seepage over time. The bolt in the middle under the timing chain was broken when I took it out the first time. But I don't think it was leaking that much. More from the disa solenoids than the block itself

  • @SKWDMDYT
    @SKWDMDYT Před 2 lety +1

    I have been enjoying all your videos, but never will be doing a rebuild. Living vicariously through you. Still enjoyable.
    So my question, at minute 15:30 . Three of the four bolts in my N52, are broken. I can't see the fourth small guy so that might be as well. I replaced the external one because that is accessible, but the two under the valve cover might be too difficult for me. So what exactly do these bolts do, and will something terrible happen if I don't fix it. The car is my daily driver and can't put the valve cover back on until I find a solution.

    • @buildanddrive
      @buildanddrive  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for the kind comment! I assume those bolts hold the cylinder head together to keep the oil passages on the front of the engine (vanos, timing tensioner etc) held together tighter. Is your engine leaking oil at the front of the block anywhere? If not then maybe these bolts are just extra precaution designed by the engineers

    I started to rebuild engine from cylinder head. When i remove valves intake and exhaus, i cant find to buy exhaus because they are 5mm and all n52 have about 6mm valves that is i think standard to this engine. I started to replacing valves to 6mm because that valves i can buy in my country. Can you tell me in your engine is it diffrent valves spring thickness for intake and exhaus or they are similar?

      My valves were 5mm BMW 11 34 7 539 920. You can buy exhaust valves from your BMW dealer. Give them the part number. Or you can ship from Germany. I ordered from Leebmann online

    Have a question the area where the head gasket goes on the block has both black(outer edge) and silver(towards center) shaped channels that includes the cylinders. On mine the black is not flush with the silver, I can feel it when running my finger over it. I noticed you did not actually remove it so I assume it is part of the original way the block is molded. My black area has some portions of it a bit worn off, you can see silver underneath will the head gasket cover all of it without having to resurface the face of the block?

    • @buildanddrive
      @buildanddrive  Před 3 lety

      Can you send me a photo of what you mean on Instagram? What time stamp in the video are you referring too? All I did was clean the block as best I could with some scotchbrite pads and a bit of sandpaper. You don't want to warp the block. The head gasket itself is about 3mm thick so I can fill in some gaps as long as it's clean. Send me a photo of what you are looking at. I still have my old head gasket I can look at.

    When your using a torque wrench . 2 different people will have slightly different ideas on 90° OR 180° ? yet bmw are so strict on tolerances.
