After 70 years: German national team takes off adidas, puts on Nike | DW News

- It seemed to be a marriage for eternity: From the very beginning the German national football team dressed in adidas outfits. All of their World Cup victories in 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014 showed them in the iconic three-stripes-garments. So it is understable that it comes to many as a shock, when DFB, the German Football Association, announced that from 2027 on, US-rival Nike will be the official partner. DW sports expert Mark Meadows looks behind the scenes and explains the real reason for this swap.

The entire MLS wears Adidas. The American league. You guys are overreacting for no reason
@@dom4591 . MLS is a B sports league in the US. The equivalent wud be Adidas taking over NFL or NBA from Nike.
@karrr1573 it's easy to tell when someone doesn't like a response lol.

Sad news. Germany never had a bad Adidas kit. Best Adidas kit were always in Germany.
except the pink kit
@Nicolas-1812 yep that is the worst german away kit ever
Several of the kits Nike has given the USMNT have been downright terrible. Bodes ill for Germany.
Until 2022. It was Japan who have the best Adidas kit.
The kit for the 94 WC was pretty bad.
That's just embarrassing that an American brand like Nike is taking away adidas' home country like that.

Like how Nike also convinced England to sell out Umbro
I hope neither country wins anything.
It was worse. Nike bought Umbro just to take over the best contracts and then offloaded the diminished company once they were done with it. Mind you Adidas did something similar to Reebok to take over their NBA contract.
Have you seen the poor quality of Nikes football shirts? Paper thin trash.

Not really. It’s business and that is a fact that German companies, one after another, are losing their competitiveness. Lack of innovation, terrible customer service, lack of flexibility in German corporate culture, not embracing the full power of software and other “newer” technologies.

This is equivalent of German Chancellor choosing American Car for his motorcade over German cars
Smells like bribery or some kind of deal requirement when adidas was not allowed to counter offer

The part I don't get is why the DFB did not give Adidas the chance to match Nike's offer. Obviously, there is much more into this that we don't know. As an outsider, have to say, it will be interesting seeing Germany in Nike, as it would be if we saw the US in Adidas (who knows?).
Adidas is very popular amongst American college tackle football and track and field so it wouldn’t seem that big of a deal. Most Americans don’t even realize Adidas is a German company because it’s so prevalent. I believe Japan soccer wears Adidas even though there are some high profile Japanese sports apparel companies. Money speaks volumes and Nike is twice the size and apparently had more cash to throw their way.

ADIDAS are way better than Nike. If Jurgen Klopp takes over the German national job in the next few years it will be interesting as he snubbed Nike who are Liverpool's kit makers and went with an exclusive ADIDAS contract.
Imagine being the head of sponsorships at adidas and walking into a board meeting saying you've lost Germany
this is mind-blowing tbh
This is a surprise. It gives off a treacherous vibe.
Lookout Germans; Nike have the contract for the England team football kit and have just sparked a big controversy there by completely altering the English flag on the shirt collar. A warning to you of what to expect in Germany from the Nike company.
Germany in a Nike kit will be bizarre. How could adidas not get this deal done. My goodness
Atleast German FA should have tried for re-negotiating with Adidas after getting NIKE offer , Adidas would have for sure , come up with a competitive deal. This sudden fast decision by German FA is truly shocking specially , if the partnership was for 70+ years!
Adidas probably said last, best and final offer before they went with Nike. Nike made a better deal and they make good shirts. If you don’t like their kits, that’s your personal preference but they make historic kits for big teams for many years now. Nike will design good kits imo. They kind of have to, they just pissed off many people and will have to deliver.

What’s about the shoe player will be wearing? That might actually affect performance?
players wear whatever boots they want they have separate contracts with sports brands when it comes to boots
boots and kits have different deal for example ronaldo used to wear addidas kit with socks at madrid but used to wear nike boots
Players pick their boots, regardless of their team's kit supplier.
This is thanks to the Adidas-Puma rift and the fact that players like Johann Cruijff and Lothar Matthäus would prefer to pay fines and keep wearing their Puma boots rather than the ones Adidas officially supplied to their national teams (when suppliers wore from head to toes the teams).
Ameican brands are taking over the world
Not Ford for sure. Country after Ci7ntry, they are in self defeat.
Adidas always made sexy jerseys for Germany, the most recent jersey is a final middle-finger parting, it looks like an after-thought.
Wie heißt es so schön: Gier frisst Hirn
Wenn das Nike-Angebot tatsächlich so viel höher war als das nominelle von Adidas, dann kann so etwas schon mal passieren. Ob es schlau war, sei mal dahingestellt
