What's the best way to style jeans with your boots? I break down six of the most popular ways to wear your jeans with boots, including how to stack, pinroll, cuff, roll, and more.
I mention a few denim brands in this video. My favorite pair of jeans right now is from Outerknown.

The main boot I'm wearing in this video is the Thursday President.

I'm also wearing the Red Wing Iron Ranger and the Ace Marks Troy (the Chelsea boot)

There are dozens of ways to style your jeans with boots. The most important thing to consider is your body type and the kind of jeans you're comfortable wearing.
In this video, I discuss the "stacked" jeans method, which is usually done with a pair of skinny fit jeans.
I'm not a huge fan of skinny fit jeans myself as I'm over the age of 30 and my thighs are a bit large, so I just looked stuffed.
But skinny jeans are a solid option for younger guys and skinny dudes.
My preference is for a classic slim fit jean. Not too much room in the thighs, but also not skin tight. I think most men should at least try a slim fit, even if you're heavier set.
You may need to try a few different denim brands to find a fit that works well for your style and comfort needs. But the most important thing is that your jeans make your boots look awesome.

Thanks for mentioning OuterKnown. The best clothing brand I've ever owned. Love their Denim especially the selvedge. I own almost every jean they make. Great information on Cuffing but, I'm more in to stacking or letting them hang. Thanks for doing what you do.
I guess I'm too old. The clean break looks the best to me.
“Clean break”. Wearing your pants 😆
Wow! I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes the Selvage cuff. I have seen many videos with guys doing the Cuff and Roll.
Very helpful vid. Thanks
52 and wearing skinny selvedge jeans with either Thursday Vanguards or Chelsea's. Cuffed and looking quite styley , thank you very much. Plan on doing so through my 80's and giving less of a damn with each passing day.
never change. what ever looked good when you finished high school or college, just keep rocking it. dont let the history die.
52 and wearing skinny jeans 😆gheeeeeeyyy
Hey William, Just got a pair of the Grant Stone Brass boots based on your recommendation. LOVE THEM! These boots are SOLID! BTW Is there any particular Levis you'd recommend to someone who is 40ish, pretty athletic and about 6feet?
100% agree. I'm 5'7 and don't roll or cuff my jeans. It looks good but make my legs look shorter. I like 512's with Captains.
Great video William, one of the best. I am a loyal UK viewer aged the wrong side of 60. I've just returned to wearing jeans after many years - make that decades. I got myself slim fit pairs of Levi's, Wranglers and some selvedge jeans. I'm wearing Thursday Captains. I am a big guy, over six feet tall and as we say in England, "big boned". Can a big guy over 60 get away with cuffed jeans? Stacked - I wouldn't go there!
Glad it was helpful! And yeah, I think you can definitely pull it off. Thank you for watching!
Don't cuff your jeans. You'll look like a man-child
I really don't like the way they looked cuffed.
In the fifties we wore Levis-they were 501s-with the 1/2 in. hem turned over close & tight...then (1) more tight same way....with a half break...a skinny belt with the buckle at the Port Bow, but mostly no belt...some guys pegged em tightly & wore blue suede roach killers.
Roach killers and mosquito kickers
Dude, I did the “pin roll” in the 80’s as a kid cause all the jeans had big cuffs. Check out Zack Morris from Saved By The Bell. That was the preppy style boi! 😂
I wish I could do clean break. But my pant size is 28x28. And the smallest I find everywhere is 28x30 when it comes to edc jeans. So I need to stuff those extra 2" somewhere
I must confess I think cuffed jeans look good on people with slimmer to average builds, and that are maybe a little taller than I. For me i'm 5' 10" and well on the bigger side, cuffing just makes me look a little dumpy and my legs shorter. Especially so because being 250 lbs and trying to wear slim jeans is obviously not the move. I wear Levi 502 regular tapers because they still taper in and give a nice tailored look, but I usually still have to get my 40x30s hemmed a bit for that no break look.
What Levi’s do you recommend for the Iron Rangers? Thank you
Great video! This will apply to my boots I ordered from Thursdays! I ordered the Stompers and I will definitely try cuffing my jeans with them!

Thanks for being the only American on YT that doesn't scream at us
Great advice William
Glad it was helpful! Thank you so much for watching!
I'm with you on the raw denim thing. I had a pair of raw that I broke in for like 6 months before first wash and they felt like a canvas potato sack. Simply not comfortable at all.
my momotaro's were like that but I can wear them as pajama pants now because they are so soft
15.7oz
How can I style a relaxed or regular fit with boots?
Thanks for height guide usually people don't include that
Cuffed always says "I'm trying to look cool." A well-fitting pair of pants simply worn as-is always looks better IMO.
yep
@@exithero Well I'm 6'5" and still think cuffs look a bit silly ha.
Totally agree
but if you wear selvage jeans you gotta cuff em to show the id lol
Yep!
My favourite subject
One question what about chinos, maybe a new video idea? Nice channel by the way, you got a subscriber.
I've started cuffing inside out, to keep the hemmed look without the break between jeans and boots
Lmao that “pin roll” is how a lot of service members blouse their pants (but in rather than out). I used to do this with a blousing strap in my ABUs. Now I’m in flight suits so no more blousing for me.
Does any of the cuffs work for short dudes?
What watch are you wearing?
cuffed and rolled is perfect for a winter flannel lined relaxed fit jeans with boots. Fashionable and functional by keeping that slush from soaking the bottoms.
Wrangler 13MWZ’s or Branded Denim 102’s bought to stack when cuffed so you don’t look like your wearing high waters when your on your horse…but that’s just me.
I was just watching this video then a couple of hours later for some reason ‘love shack’ by the b52’s popped in my head and I watched that video, and I just realised you look uncannily like the lead dude from that band. ‘I got me a Chrysler that’s as big as a whale’. You may have to review some 80’s boots ;-)
Hahaha that's amazing
Whats the colour of the president he is wearing in this video?
Pinroll forsure
Maybe it’s just an age thing but I’ve tried cuff or roll my jeans and never like the look on myself. For reference I’m 40.
Yeah it's not for everyone. Thank you so much for watching!
You’re probably wearing the wrong fit and color. Get some slightly tapered dark indigo jeans.
I'm 35 and feel I look better with a cuff. I am also 6'3" and have a more casual style.
I agree with you and I'm 41 lol. I honestly thought there might be some kind of functional reason for this, like it started because someone wanted to keep their dark wash jeans from leaving marks on their leather or white sneakers. To each their own though!
So under 5'6" Don't stack your jeans but over 6'3" stack your jeans, what about all the heights in between which is the vast majority of people?
cargo shorts
@@-IE_it_yourself😂rekt
So no cuff roll for guys 5”6 and under?
Faux cuff looks best on me, any thoughts?
What are those?
The pin roll seems 🤔 more like the UK skinhead look much love from UK 🇬🇧
Clean Break is where its at
I was doing this over 25 years ago in high school
At 55, 6’4” and 265lbs my wife says I’m too old to cuff when I’m wearing 6” side zip, laced Connelly’s black capped toe and brown wingtip. Is 55 too old?
No.
All depends on the individual. Look at some guys in their 20s and you are happy with your age.
Enjoyed this immensely , at 67 years young i just got some great info on style . I am 100% and Allen Edmonds kinda guy who embraces the entire boot lineup of Daltons , Landon’s , Hamiltons , and of course Higgins Mill ! Again I really appreciate your insight !
I've been hitting the gym a lot and my legs are quite thick so I have to wear straight cut jeans. So the hem is really wide and it looks weird and bulky if I cuff it. Any suggestions how to make this work?
Have you ever tried a fit with more room in the thigh but more of a taper when you get towards the ankle? I think “athletic fit” is a term a lot of brands use for this type of fit.
@@guy_5229 i don't live in a rich country so the options are quite small here. Generally it's between slim and straight fit. Maybe I just need to search in more stores. I used to wear slim fit and it was great, but since i lost 15 kg the slim fit is too tight in the thighs.
Try athletic/relaxed taper fit. Room for thighs and slimmer at the ankle. Nice modern silhouette
That's why boot-cut jeans exist. They fit over the boots. I wear them all the time, even with normal shoes.
Dad vibes
Your first problem is your wear shoes with jeans
They fit over cowboy boots specifically because of the tall and wide shaft required to pull them on. You don't need that at all for 6 inch lace up boots, chelseas, etc. I understand liking the look of them for sure but saying all boots need or excel with bootcut jeans is just not true.
I’ve tried all different way but typically go with the standard stacked. Screw it! Lol
I ain’t rolling my britches legs up
Never been a fan of the cuffed look.
Looks dumb, and if you actually do things that require boots crud can collect in there.
@@Brian-ee1gx Yeah. If I wore a black leather jacket and slicked my hair back, maybe. But my name isn't Pony Boy and this ain't the Outsiders.
@@Brian-ee1gx These are fashion boots.....
Well I'm 50 and I cuff my jeans
I was pinrolling them back in the '80s. It's about having style.
I always thought cuffed jeans were when people had bought jeans that were too long and coulsnt afford to have them taken up to fit properly
I just tuck my jeans in my boots because I have tall boots and the jeans won't fit over them
plus it's keeps them clean and dry from snow and mud
I’ve never understood this. If your jeans don’t have 2+ inches of stacking, what’s the big deal? All the fashion people say the same thing, but my simple brain thinks it looks normal to just have slim cut jeans that end just below the top of the boot
No break is best
I enjoy a good bit of your boot content, but as a guy who grew up on horses, worked for years from horseback, and worked for years on the ground in agriculture wearing packers or pull on riding boots or redwi g work boots, I think this video is funny as hell. We could afford only one set of jeans, and we wore them long, stacked. If you got them shorter, when you get in the saddle, they run up your legs and you look like a kid with last year's pants.
It depends on who you are. I like a LIGHT cuffing that is barely obvious because its a slender cut, and I do it more to accentuate my boots but also not get them caught up on my pants. I do think it looks cooler. But I do think it's annoying if you use TOO MUCH cuff.
I don't like the way pants falling over boots looks, but just my opinion. I also don't give a fuck how another man wears his pants.
Stack only
Do what you want. Not what somebody tells you to do.
yep
Tucked of course!
I'm old enough to remember how Levi's jeans only came in raw denim. No prewashed holey jeans!
Hi William!!!, we wrote you an email weeks ago!!!! Please take a look!!!🙃🙃
I'm 45, not skinny and i wear my jeans, taper the way i want to wear em.
Stack all the way. Don’t be a try hard.
What kind of jeans are good to do the pinroll with Thursday boots?
2:26 this looks like you are getting ready to build the empire state building, or fix a studabaker. 3:02 or 5:57 this is the only one that looks reasonable.
i will never cuff my jeans idgaf what anyone thinks
Cuffed makes me feel like I'm in grade school again with the wrong sized jeans. I wear cowboy boots so the stacked works for me.
You missed cowboy style where you buy your jeans 4" too long to where the cuff drags the ground until they just wear away. I buy jeans that fit so I look like an adult.
How to wear boots in hot weather
I'm such a man that I judge other men on how they roll or don't roll their pants. 🤣
*unzips pants and pees in your mouth*
You say "thank you, I enjoyed that"
I love the content. Bought a pair of captains based largely on your reviews but when it comes to how i wear my jeans… you lost me.
I thought cuffing or stacking jeans was what you did when you got hand me down clothes you did not fit into or when your parents tried to save money by buying something you could grow into. lol
all that is well and good but i’m 36 and i’m not growing.
To each their own! I appreciate you watching and commenting, always great to hear other perspectives!
There is no right or wrong way. whatever you like.
Cuffed Jeans have been a thing since jeans became a thing idk why people hate it so much. I do think however it can get pretty overboard real fast. I usually hem my denim to the point where I can cuff to the point where there is no break. Too high and it looks pretty silly for someone like me with a stocky build.
Cuffing reminds me how I wore my pants in the early 80’s! It was cool then. But now??…. Cuffing has always been a trend. 1950’s, 80’s and now. I don’t follow trends after the 80’s. Traditional is always best.
I cuff my jeans now with my boots . Its just a better look .
Hate cuffed pants. Doesn’t matter what kind of shoes or boots someone is wearing. Just not a good look to me, unless you are Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn. ;)
#23
No man should be rolling his pants in any way.
All i have to say is, wearing skinny jeans won't make you look skinny unless you already are. I see a lot of heavier guys wearing them and that can't be good for your cardiovascular system. Even if you're average build and you wear skinny jeans, you're pushing it
Lol big guys in skinny jeans is a ridiculous look. Yet I see it all the time. Circus look 🤡
You can wear skinny jeans even if you are over 50 if ur skinny/thin because often they look like normal fit on that bodytype.
Also it depends on your looks.
There is no set rule for eveeyone.
true, but it good to be aware.
Skinny jeans LMBO
I'm older. I'm just watching out of interest. Wait til I tell you what I did for a couple of months in my life, for a laugh. I had pretty skinny jeans, although they weren't so tight from about 4"and or 5" from the ankle. They started life, originally, as too long. I cut them across with scissors, to a 'slightly, too long' length, so as just to let them fray. Then I cut up the inside seam by about 2" and wore them with black suede Cuban heeled Chelseas.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention. The jeans were black, so I layed them flat in my mother's bathtub and just poured a bottle of bleach all over them, in various sized blobs and stuff, front and back and once they were all white, grey and black bits that I was happy with, I rinsed all the bleach off with a showerhead.
The bleach idea came from what skinheads used to do with skintight blue jeans, which they then wore with braces and oxblood or cherry red Docs. Except I was into Crazyhead and The Cult and had long hair way down my back.
I made cuffs sometimes before they were called cuffs, too. We just called them turn-ups.
Point being: Enjoy yourself, try new things, do whatever makes you feel good and feel happy and don't give a shit what nay sayers or boring squares say.
Having said that, I'm not sure about cuffing, now, at age 52, ha. Fine if you do, it's just me being self-conscious. But you should definitely do it if you like the look and want to. It looks good to me. And don't listen to these guys who infer that it look like 'this' or it means you 'that' (like it's try-hard, etc). It doesn't mean shit except it's your clothes, your sartorial choices and your own personal style.
And it's nothing compared to what I used to do, or the shit I used to get off the local hicks back in about 1986, 7 or 8.
This is great for those who don't know how to dress themselves without advice
when you don't cuff your jeans, you look like jeans cloude van damme
I wear steel toe boots so dosen't matter
Great video, but thats a pass on cuffing for me. No break is just more formal and effortless looking to me.
I'm disabled. Folding my bottom of the jeans is hard for me. So...I just wear my boots with jeans over them.....as ugly as I am. It won't matter much anyways
Honestly, I think that is the best look -- cuffs don't look good to everyone.
Jesus loves you
Cuffed just looks silly....especially on anyone older than a teenager
Lmao so much fragile masculinity in these comments.
I came here looking looking for boot knowledge, but there just seems to be a bunch of ladies talking about fashion here. I'm out.
Cuffed jeans scream ‘I’m trying really hard to look cool and trendy’ - better just to look natural and casual.
Never ever cuff jeans… ever.
Cuffed jeans look cool however you will be considered a hipster. Nothing wrong with that, just something to keep in mind if thats not your current style
Would never catch me cuffing my pants.
Didn't I see you wearing cuffed jeans today?
@@BootSpy not in this life time, I think it's silly looking.
If you wear skinny jeans, you shouldn't be wearing boots. You should be wearing heels.
What if the guy is skinny?
Lmao
cuffed is want to be hipster
As a man who 220 pounds and has a 650+ pound squat and a 700+ pound deadlift, there is no way in hell I could even try to put on skinny jeans. I’m essentially relegated to boot cut jeans and or joggers.
Do you start all your conversations this way
@@mattgoodwin953🤣
If you are going I cuff your jeans, at least finish the look with a white t shirt, black leather jacket and slicked back greasy hair. Otherwise let this hipster trend die, along with beards and wearing “never seen dirt” carhartt jackets.
Cuffing or rolling jeans is very juvenile....only for kids under 20? If jeans are too long with boots get them tailored to fit properly. Cuffing or rolling jeans not for adult men,
Cuffs of any type -- not a good look
Nah, roll up is illiterate in 2024, it was stylish back in 2008.
I judge men that cuff they're jeans for any reason other than they're too long. If I see a dude wearing Iron Rangers with a cuff & T-shirt, I assume he can't change a tire.
I wear skinny jeans with a cuff to show off 8 in Thorogoods, I drive for Amazon which is hard labor and I can change a tire. I guess by your definition that makes me a real man? Please my guy real men do what they want without caring about what people like you think
@@EvilCammyCam and yet here you are caring. First, no one shows off Thorogood. Ridiculous. Second, Thorogood aren't RW IRs. Third, skinny jeans? Lol Gives your sister back her jeans.
@@teejaydoyle2810 god if only I could achieve your level of manliness, you are the real deal sir
Could you please judge me as a man, I don’t think my balls will come back until I get TeeJay Doyle’s approval
