- This beautifully haunting rendition is of a very sad Yiddish song by Morris Rosenfeld (1862-1923) has become synonymous with the cruel and unnecessary deaths of some 146 textile workers in a fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in 1911 in New York . This is the best version I know of, and should be made comercially available if it is not already (please let me know where I can get it if it is).
I notice, thanks to Lagolop, that there is the 'trianglecoalition' channel for further info - Hudba
The song was written before the Triangle Fire. Rosenfeld was one of the four "sweatshop" poets, and actually worked in the needle trades. The song became a standard at virtually every commemoration of the fire.
Hi its on her lovely AQABA album. I agree, wonderful song
It is a good rendition. Here is the song sung in Yiddish.
