I've had over 60 letters now. They go in a cycle which includes court action threats, fines, a criminal record and culminating in a 'we can get a search warrant' threat. It's all bluff, no substance and it's laughable. When you realise the threats are just psychological and not actual you start to look forward to the letters so you can mock them.

I got a letter from TV licencing yesterday with their usual threats of £1000 fine blah blah, this time it stated that they can "apply for a search warrant to gain access to your property". Can they actually do that or is it just a scare tactic?

@@heritagedefender799 No they can’t; not by you ignoring their letters. But if you’ve opened the door to them, and said something they can use to get a warrant from a magistrate. Don’t worry, just tell them you don’t watch live tv; pug in a PlayStation and tell them you watch DVDs job done.

    • @FilmFan-iv7sz

no as to get a warrent they need to get evidence. So if someone comes to your door and asks for you by name. Dont tell them, ask them who are if they say TV lincesing. Just say no thank you and close the door. Do not sign anything or engange with them in any other way. If you say something to implie you are watching live TV thst can be used to get a warrent. They have no legal access to your property at all.

You want to keep your address as a ‘non communication location’ as in that they then don’t know if it’s occupied or not. it still flags up on the list of not having a licence but doesn’t stand out to draw attention so much.

I'm personally acquainted with 4 people in my own immediate locality who don't own TV sets.
Of those, one is in his 80s and has never owned a TV in his entire life. Wasn't even tempted when he was offered a free licence at 75 - he prefers his radio. Another lady hasn't owned one since her husband died - prefers her craft work.

I know this was posted 10 months ago. But just in case, i'll mention the "You missed a parcel" trick - the little red card that's made to look like it was written by hand......but isn't. There also the much "friendlier" look green letter, that says you only have to pay so much a week. By the way, if you set up a DD with these robbing bastards, they'll try and take a year in advance (£6 per week = £352)........and when you cancel it, they write to you saying you can pay as little as £3 per week. Robbing bastards will not get another penny from me.......ever!. Quick edit -......because I don't have a TV.

@@Simon.0000 The 'Missed Parcel' one is particularly devious. It's red for a start, probably to try and fool you into thinking it's Royal Mail. It APPEARS to be hand written but isn't. On it, it says Delivered by hand (yep, the regular postmans hand), it has a a phone number on it and and an "Urgent Response Required" box ticked. At the bottom, again in what appears to be hand writing it says 'Please contact us ASAP' - Nowhere on the outside of this card does it mention it's from TVL. You CAN open it, but it's not easy, it's designed to look and feel like just a single card. It's only when you manage to get it open that you discover it's from TVL. This smacks of deception, a con trick, a trap. If any private company tried such tactics, they'd be in a world of doo doo, but, it's only to be expected from those bastards isn't it. So watch out for that one folks.

It's bull, I've had the letters for 18 years they send different ones to were Kong you, it's all a bluff. If they send someone round just film them that Instantly makes them worried being filmed on camera and they walk away , and whenever they send you letters just seal it back up and put on the front without a stamp - "return to sender" , one it's costs them to receive the letter back, and two they then will stop sending the letters to your address because they realise you send it back to them. Trust me it works. They bluff you to intimidate you to pay for a service - that your not F*CKING using. It's insane. I won't work in Tesco and force customers to buy fish fingers because I know they have kitchens.....so don't assume I have a TV and force me to have a licence that I don't want and I don't need because *I don't watch BBC channels.* Jut say yes I have a TV...for use of watching DVD's only and playing PlayStation games and no I don't have a aerial attached and no I legally can refuse you to come inside my home to check. Bye now, bye, then shut the door.
They then send letters which you return with "return to sender" then the letters STOP and they bother some other poor sod. Trust me, it works.
