I'm only on book 3 right now, so I haven't read them all yet but until now it seems like parts of the history and lore are from the books but in the books they are not as detailed and not necesarrily from the perspective of that specific character (although some are)....It seems like some of them are made up by the writers of the show and some are taken from the books yet expanded and rewritten from the perspective of a specific character and that is also a great deal of work

History and lore is an official extra from the blue ray disks. The real actors from the show voiceacted here. There is no real order in wich you should watch them. You can watch them after you watched the season or before or even in between. They just provide some backgroundinformation on places, characters, certqin events etc.
The North, The Reach, The Stormlands, The Riverlands, The Westerlands, The Vale, The Crownlands, and The Iron Island. With or without Dorne there never was just Seven kingdoms. It was just a name more to honor Westeros as to please the faith. Just like Bran is not the king of the 6 kingdoms but still the seven. Unless Dorne and the Iron Islands left with the North.
Yeah but Dorne shouldnt even be kingdom but principality (prince as a monarch) so the title is different. And Crownlands was made by Aegon as direct region ruled by the king instead of having lord paramount. Area was contested hundreds of years just like the Riverlands which was also officially set as diferent administrative region ruled by lord paramount by Aegon ,but Riverlands was once ruled by their own royal house before Storm kings conquered them. And all those kingdoms around have been set thousands of years before conquest with their cultural identies and individual histories, Aegon just took a large area from 3 kingdoms so he can call his own banners. The real question is why was Aegon crowned king of 6 kingdoms if he remade Riverlands a proper region ruled by lord paramount.
The riverlands aren’t a kingdom they were part of the iron islands via house hoare but after conquest it was no longer included as a kingdoms so 6 is correct
The Iron Islands and the Riverlands were one kingdom prior to Aegon because the Iron Born conquered them. And the Crownlands was a district (similar to how DC is a district not a state) so that makes seven kingdoms.
