What irritates me the most is the fact that Noah’s considered a bad boy when in reality he shouldn’t have to be. He’s a privileged white guy with loving parents, has a beautiful house with a pool, gets accepted to Harvard for some reason, has a car, plays sports, is attractive, isn’t addicted to drugs etc. The only thing making him seem as “bad” is the constant fighting, but still, what the hell is making him fight in the first place?? There’s no trauma or struggle anywhere in his life to motivate that.

Okay, stop right there. We. Are not gonna involve ourselves with this completely out of date misogyny. A girl wearing short skirts or shorts is *not* an invitation or an offer. It’s just clothes. Sexualizing clothing is not good. Please stop.

and the funniest thing is she doesn't even look sexy or slutty or revealing. ppl who tells girls this often are just perverted because the girls don't look slutty or sloppy or revealing in any way. I've literally worn full outfits (I'm very conservative), in work clothes, anything that just looks nice and that's apparently inviting as well. so the mindset is just a bs excuse for harassment. The fact that he threatened all the boys not to date her then is kiss a random girl at the party hypocrite
He said she was asking to be sexual harassed
He threatened her when she said he’s days of controlling her are over he says “We’ll see” like it cute ( my friend had to get A restraining order on a dude who pulled that kinda shit!)
    He has anger issues
HUGE RED FLAG: When his little brother find them together and Elle is hurt he thinks the brother did it!

OK so a psychological horror marketed as a romance. And we watch this toxic man or woman deal with their partner in very toxic ways but the main character still convinces themself that their partner loves them and maybe the main character even does love them (the love interest). And it’s a way to kind of demonstrate how hard it can be to detangle yourself from a toxic or abusive relationship because your mind plays tricks on you and convinces you that it’s normal, that it’s healthy, that it’s OK, that’s justifiable. And we watch them as they struggle to get away and escape, made more difficult because they cut off all other ties because the love interest convince him that those people are bad for them. But it doesn’t end once the main character escapes because it doesn’t just end once you get out of abusive relationship. There’s still recovery and relearning your value or learning it for the first time in some cases. They’re still learning who to trust you can’t be trusted. There’s trying to rebuild yourself into something without them. This abuse and this trauma isn’t romanticize. This is what is happened to so many people and what is continuing to happen to so many people and this would be a statement about why it’s dangerous to idolize these abusive and toxic relationships.
I do say all of this knowing full well that the “romantic lead” who is pretty obviously abusive and toxic and horrible and (maybe hopefully dead by the end) would be romanticized.

Rachel never had a problem with Lee being friends with Elle; she had a problem with Lee completely ignoring her in favor of Elle all the time. Obviously it would be bad if she was trying to police who her boyfriend was friends with, but she’s not; she’s just asking him to spend time with her on occasion-which is the bare minimum of being a boyfriend.

Not that the actual romance was good but there’s plenty of straight white friends-to-lovers content in media. If there’s one thing I’m happy about in this movie it’s that they managed to have a mixed gender friendship without implying that sex is going to happen by default

No, he shouldn't dictate who she loves just because she's his best friend but that's what the list that *they* put together said and she never even had a conversation with him about it until she whined like a child to him at the end of the movie. Lee was a great friend, he hung out with her, defended her even when he knew he was gonna get beat up for it, was prepared to fight Noah for 'hitting' her, invited her to prom with his girlfriend, and even said he would give his gf up if she wanted him to.
Elle was a piece of shit for f*cking his brother and then lying to his face about it multiple times and Noah's a piece of shit for being abusive and controlling. Also, Lee thinking of Elle as property is toxic as well. This whole movie is toxic lmfao

in kennie j.d.'s review she mentions how the movie relies on lee's insecurities to justify why he doesn't want elle to date his brother, but (to her) it made more sense that he didn't want them to date because he knows his brother is abusive and is worried for his best friend. after all, his first reaction when he saw her hurt was not asking her what happened, but assuming it was his brother who did it, that says something.
