- LighterPack is a web app that has been around for a few years and I've used it extensively. BUT more recently, I've been using a newer web app called PackWizard. In this video, I dive into both apps, look at the pros, cons and which one I prefer to plan for my hiking trips.

Trailwise is another great option! I have been using it alot recently!
Will be checking that out for sure! Thanks for the tip!
Step on a scale. Done. No need for an “app”. 😂
The "scale only" method works if you don't mind carrying some extra pounds. As I get older, I have found it very worthwhile to streamline my gear. Not only to save weight, but it has also improved my overall "efficiency" - taking less stuff while still meeting my on-trail needs. A recent use of Lighter Pack was to examine my clothing. I was able to quickly run through various combinations to develop a better clothing "system" - it did reduce weight by about a pound while I also feel much more confident that I will be comfortable over a wider range of weather conditions. Of course I tested before taking on an extended trip. Without Lighter Pack, I would not have spent the effort to go through this analysis using only pencil & paper. Spreadsheets are fine as well but a little more work to achieve the same results.
Yep still do that prior to leaving but I like to plan every detail and these apps allow me to meticulously plan well in advance. I have also used it to help streamline and reduce weights of both my clothing and sleep systems resulting in significant weight savings.
