- TWS (www.tws-windsurf.com) Freemove Technique Series is a series of instructional videos. We teamed up with professional windsurfing coach Colin ¨Whippy¨ Dixon (www.windsurfcoaching.com) to explain you all the details about downwind and upwind moves that will help you put your windsurfing skills on the higher level!
In the eight episode of Freewave Technique Series Colin explains you one of the most useful trick while windsurfing. Fast TACK on the wave, short board which will make your sailing much easier once you have it nailed! - Sport
Excellent series. The best I have seen on the internet... ever. Love the details... too many to remember at once, but I can learn the technique in layers.
Awesome crystal clear coaching thanks TWS
Perfectly explained and you added very useful eagle view... Bravo!!!
👍 Well described again, and also informing those viewers that using the mast grasp area as the rig is in the process of swinging is very beneficial.
I tried to grab the mast today but I´m non convinced I prefer it. You have less power I feel when you swing the sail with the mast grip and I found it hard to swing back and also less control whn going in to the tack.
Excellent video
Well explained
I look forward to practicing next summer !
Thanks
Wonderfully laid out - now I have to try it.
I recommend the Philip Köster tack which you can see on Philip Köster youtube channel video from 2014, "Windsurfing at the step" in Tenerife at 1 minute 10 seconds in. Going through transition he does back hand ( one nearest clew on boom) to mast then front hand goes to new side of boom at harness lines. For tacking where you are heading straight into the waves this way seems more robust and simple. One advantage is that while holding the mast for a second the sail can swing around neutral, doing its own thing. Don't be too quick even to grab the boom until you sort of stabilized on the new side of board. Can help to grab boom fairly near mast and push backwinded a little for a second or two. A sharp pull on back hand before going round can help. It is still tricky to judge the exact moment to go around in relation to how the board is pointing to the wind direction.
These lessons are inspiring. Much appreciated.
Just practiced yesterday and it worked great! thanks so much!
Revisiting this is a great refresher thank you much TWS
Love these videos, They are helping so much...next time I'm in Tenerife, I know where I am booking lessons.
fantastic instructional thank you much for putting this together well done!
Great teaching here. getting all the key details.
The best technique videos on youtube!!!
Thanks. Best explanation I've seen.
Thanks a lot. Slide the backhand forward and push the heels helped me a lot.
Extremely good video!
great tips and vídeos!!!
Sympa cte vidéo Belle demo 👍
Excellent video
great tips thanks bro🤙
The front foot mast position saved my day
Love this video
Sweet I'll go get a box or beers and start practicing.
Thank you so much ...Teşekkürler :)
I’ve been trying to do fast tack for 50 years on my 200 liter boards. Next time. I’ll try that front foot position. I’ll also mention that currents and swell can make one tack direction harder than the other. At Kailua I can do port to starboard only. See Kailua windsurfing for seniors.
I am already practising at home for muscle memory. I am also sure I will go to Teneriff🙂
"Down! down down! Ninja!" He is funny.
I very much appreciate all of our videos and 'd like to join a clinic one day :-) ... When fast taking, is it advies to push the sail opposite to the wind just after being on the other side?
great video! thanks a lot. Where do you stand on the topic of back-winding the tack once around the mast, in order to increase stability? cheers
Thanks I’m still working on getting into the plain but turning around normally results in me going in the water I will practice this ps is 205 ltr board ok
It’s good to do everything on big boards, then get a bit smaller each year, until you get to about 65 yrs old then go bigger each year!
' ...like a ninja!'
OK ... !
“Shark-infested waters” 😅
"you fall into the drink"
A KAY
Thank you for your nice video! 👍🏻🙂
But leaving the rear footstrap before you hook out of harness is not a good advice.
When a hard gust is coming right at this moment you are not able to hook out cause everything goes too fast and you crash into your boom, mast and sail with your body.
I did exactly this last week and it was very painful and I suffer until now from a bruise in my shoulder.
Everytime hook out of your harness BEFORE you leave the rear footstrap! ☝🏻
Briliant! Those little things makes all the difference. Thanks so much!
Really well explained. Can't wait to try.
Another great video from TWS. Thank you.
very clear explanation. Great footage.
Superb breakdown, thanks.
so well explained, thank you!
Brilliant - best tack tuition I've seen so far - especially bothering to mention the slight oversheet when the sail is raked back - many top instructors do this so intuitively, they forget to mention it..
(I also think it might be worth discussing whether the oversheet manoeuvre helps set up a slight twisting 'moment' from which you can scissor the board round - or at least that's what I do - or is that a bad habit?)
Do you flip the sail a bit before you pass the eye of the wind?
no es mas fácil soltar la vela y tmarla del otro lado?
If you can do something in high winds, can you do it in low winds? Because i never harnessed before 3 days ago and i found it very easy. Its just go with it make speed and go upwind. The only thing i need to work on is tacking and jibes.
Hi! Great video you made there - which board do you use in the video - Goya one? how much volume? Thank you
Yes, We use a Goya One 106.
好老師☝️
It looks like going backwinded for a moment after the jump?
yes. it happens when the board under turns
There is an easier way to begin this. Don't go through the wind until you're on the leeward side. Second, feet around first, try to keep pressure in the rig and pull yourself across the board. Then backwind your way around.
How long are those lines 😶
should be around 26"
Rob Warwick and Kevin Pritchard all use lines that are over 30 inches.....just sayin'.....
YOU CAN'T TEACH, STOP!!

Tf is wrong with you, he is great
