- Your book pre-launch period is that time when your book is done and available for sale but readers can't get a copy yet. For traditionally published authors the book pre-launch period can last for months and months. For some self-publishing authors the pre-launch period might be days. In this video, author and founder of Book Launchers, Julie Broad shares her recommended book pre-launch period (6-8 weeks) and discusses five strategies for making the most of the time.

I wrote my book in 7 weeks I had planned it out for a long time beforehand and it took me 7 weeks of writing think to finish I'm editing it now almost done

Adding onto this, and referring back to another video you released recently, pre-launch is a great time to reread (and refamiliarise yourself with) your book so you can quote from it in interviews and in articles.

Always good stuff. I am not so patient and will have difficulty holding back....but I will take your advice I'm sure.
You will make sales by doing the pre-launch work of building your book army and starting to build momentum ... but there is so much better conversion and results when your book is available for sale it's worth holding back a little. You see, I did mention the book is coming in the newsletter this week, but that's about all I will say until launch week when I will email everyone at least twice. :)

Love the jeans jacket! I don't have an active following as of now, or really a book ready to be published, so I like the idea of using my pre-launch period to gain interest and people who would be truly interested in reading/buying my book. I also would, of course, tackle the Book Army option as I know how successful that is through helping other authors on their ARC teams. :-)

You always do such a great job! I was wondering, if I donate my book to my local library will they issue me a LCCN? Or do I need to go straight to The Library of Congress?
Donating to the library will get you listed in the local library. They usually have to create the PCIP code for your book but they won't give you an LCCN.
Thanks for putting this together! When doing a pre-sale, what platforms should we put it on.? As of now I am thinking about Amazon and Barnes and Noble only
Hmmm that really depends on where your audience is going to be looking for it. We typically do print presale via Ingram Spark and D2D for the e-books. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info... My on line book launch is in 5 days. I reduced my book price to increase sales. Should I only increase for say 3 days oppose to 5 to gather sales to support being a best seller? I have a huge following, sold 100 copies in 48 hours. Your thoughts?

I am planning to set my book for prelaunch on January 31st. with a release in March/April. However, Amazon will not print my book and planning ebook launch for a later day which will be on Amazon. Printing through Ingram Sparks.

How do you get the book but hoi g if it's your first book? It's highly unlikely you will get radio interviews for example.
Whether it's your first book or not doesn't actually impact whether you'll get radio interviews. I did a lot of radio interviews for my first book. It really comes back to what value you have to offer a radio show that they can 'sell' to their listeners. Radio shows have to cover current topics so what can you share that is relevant to what is happening in the world today? If you have a great idea then you'll get interviewed!
Oh man… I’m struggling with deciding if I should do I pre-launching….😢 I wrote a book about entrepreneurship and my journey as a foreign business owner in the USA… thing is no one knows I did it except my husband. I already sent the book for printing and I am planning to launch on my birthday April 1st. Just cause I wanted to have some time to fix get photos done for marketing but I wanted to start the buzz mid March! … what do you think? I should start now? I’m getting a copy of the book by the end of the month, maybe I can start the buzz when I get the copy in hand? 🤗 I’m so nervous I don’t know what to expect. This is my first book!

How can you get reviews when it's not launched yet. We have to rely on those who got the books in prelaunch period to wait until the book is published, until then no reviews are guaranteed and we can only asked for honest reviews.
We use ARC copies to send for pre-release reviews as well as services like Net Galley. Ultimately, no reviews are ever guaranteed though. It makes review getting a part of the work you must do consistently as an author.
