Remember speakers corner in the 70s and 80s, it was a tourist attraction, the speakers stood on boxes, and they mostly where cranky and the small crowds laughed at them. If only we could get copies of those tourist films from back then. So tame and entertaining.

I know what you mean but in fairness, filming back then was limited, rarer and more selective because it was either for TV or personal use. People with cameras didn't want to waste it because it was quite expensive and time-consuming. Today, nearly everyone has a camera of some sort, usually on their mobiles and so much....MUCH more gets covered and can end up on things like CZcams, in fact, many PURPOSELY go out looking for incidents that they can film and load up on here and other places to get hits, on their channel.
Had CZcams and mobile phone cameras existed back in those days, I'm quite sure people would have filmed fights in Speakers Corner and loaded them up but the fact is that back in those days, there was no incentive for anyone to bother doing that, cameras back then were bulky, expensive and there were limitations for where the recordings could be played back.
Another problem is that people in general have short memories, so even someone who might have gone there back then may not necessarily remember if there were any fights or not. They might say "There weren't any fights" but that could be because they've forgotten. The reality is that there must have been at least occasionally, this is why Speakers Corner has always been policed because things are bound to get heated and always have been, I bet even back in the 1800s there were fights there, it's the nature of such a place. Thanks.

@@JohnCashin Very true about filming back then, even taking a Kodak picture, every shot cost money and could not be wasted. My first camera as a kid was black and white film as colour was too expensive.
