You could count Modern Baseball out as just another emo torchbearer, but the sharp production and songwriting on this new album for Run For Cover Records can't be denied.

7/10
Y'all know this is just my opinion, right? - Hudba
An emo-revival album getting a 7 from Anthony is basically a 10, not gonna get much higher than that lol.
Can we get much higher?
So high
He just doesn't like post-hardcore. You can tell because he always has to give a history lesson on the genre before dumping on it. A subtle way of trying to establish some kind of cred. A way of gaslighting us. He was the kid listening to Slipknot and Disturbed in high school while probably picking on us who were into Sunny Day Real Estate back then.
one of my favorite bands. really never thought he'd do anything from mobo
saaaaaaaaaame
+e8b he reviewed sports and thought it was terrible
+Tyler May ??? link?
+Andrew Gagliardi wtf, it's gone?? i must be going crazy. i swear he reviewed it and gave it like a 2
i really never thought he'd enjoy anything from mobo
you're gonna miss it all is a masterpeice
mattheh fax
mattheh Sports is better
@@Zacharysharkhazard no
Zack Stuart Bray big fax
@@Zacharysharkhazard i agree
Holy Ghost grew on me. And oddly it shows their growth and eventually...their end. I love them so much.
We didn't deserve Mobo. Their run was short but it was amazing
Glad people are still showing mobo love, wish they’d do a reunion tour or something
I'M A WASTE OF TIME AND SPACE
You're not wrong
Drifting through my selfish ways...
+Jean Baron You're my friend now
aaa its my favorite on the album
AND STILL I FEEL THE NEED TO CHANGE
You weren't the only one that thought of this album that way
Dude I literally sang this comment in my head to the melody of your graduation in real time
teehee ik this is a reference
Modern Baseball sucks and I love them so much
I've never related to anything more than this comment
+Dan Tyler They remind of the Front Bottoms a lot, which I feel the same way about.
+Bryant Beach that same shit is said about every emo, pop punk, indie band.
+SamiandIarerad like a more punk influenced The Front Bottoms 👌🏻👌🏻
+KuyaJBlade but for MOBO it's true
Jake has a slightly deeper voice, he sings tracks 1-6 and Brendan sings tracks 7-11. They did a half and half for how they arranged the songs. One of the biggest things that are a great indicator of where the lyrics are from is that Brendan just came out about his depressive mental disorders and it explains why his lyrics are the way they are. Jake's are pretty dark sometimes too. I saw them live however and they were the happiest live band I've ever seen and interacted with their crowd. I met Jake. Very nice guy.
7/10, thank you for not disappointing me Fantano, faith in Fantano restored
+oG1BBY gibthony gibtano
+Will gang gang
knowing this was there last album the whole thing especially the last songs ending verse is so touching to me
Not everything has to "reinvent" the genre. MUSIC IS MADE TO BE ENJOYED. If you enjoy it, the album did its job!
7 years late but it doesnt have to reinvent the genre yeah but if it lacks inventiveness it can be detrimental to enjoyment since you mightve heard alot of stuff like that before
You really should check out their previous record 'You're Gonna Miss It All.' It's got a much heavier alt-country vibe throughout to compliment the sarcasm and dry humor in their lyrics (which is also much more prominent there than in here, though this record has plenty as well), and the whole "emo meets Dead Milkmen" vibe suits them well. The songs also play off more social situations and interpersonal interactions than just Ewald and Lukens' thinking out loud, which adds another layer to the insecurities both have in that the songs portray an environment that actively exacerbates them (i.e. college, poor young adult life). Yeah, it's not the massive overhaul either, but it's a breath of fresh air between the humor and alt-country leanings that I'm kinda disappointed didn't show up as much on 'Holy Ghost.'
It's also impressive because the sardonic lyrics could've easily turned it into an "everybody sucks except me and my friends" album, but it never lets Ewald or Lukens stay on their high horse for too long.
Holy ghost was a much more emotional album, due to brendons attempted suicide, diagnosis with bipolar and the death of Jake's grandfather.
I think a lot of that irony and sarcasm had to be sacrificed in order to ensure that the songs weren't disingenuous and gave off the desired feeling.
How do you like your potatoes, Anthony? baked, twice baked, mashed, scalloped?
Roasted.
+theneedledrop with sour cream??
+John Burg sour cream isn't vegan. Unless he likes it with Tofutti sour cream, which is actually pretty dece.
+PigsAreBrutal oh well duh I knew I that must have just slipped my mind. Too bust the about how I could use a potato or 2.
IT'S A DRUM
MEMO aka MIDWEST EMO
Modern Baseball is now officially in the main stream
Still better than views
no shit he gave it a 7
turn the 4 upside down its a 7 now
Neverbloom lmao
Have you had a chance to hear the new Pinegrove record? Would love to hear your thoughts on it
WALKIN'
Don't really like it.
+theneedledrop :/
+theneedledrop Old friends is the only song I dug on the whole thing.
+Jeremy Lotruglio Music Their new album changed my life
Review the dark souls soundtrack
I'm the type of guy that really listens to anything and appreciates the beauty inherent in various styles of music.
I don't agree when you say that every 'emo' band out there is the same nowadays, yet you feel the need to review 100 turn up rap albums that are basically all the same in terms of message and style... kinda paradoxical.
They kind of ever
Very well said 👏
review angel du$t - rock the f*ck on forever
HARDCORE
DO ANGEL DU$T HARDTHONY CORETANO
+Corey Tuccelli fuck yes. please
+Corey Tuccelli he wont like it but its so fucking sick
it's one of my favorite albums of the year so far
why you dont review nothing's new album?
*shrugs*
+theneedledrop you hurt my feelings sir :(
+theneedledrop Interesting. It might be because I usually don't give much attention to the lyrics but I thought, at least musically, this album was much more shrugworthy than Nothing's.
+Francesco De Paoli uh yeah, this band is very boring
I was thinking the same thing while listening to it
Anthony, if you haven't watched MoBo's mini-doc "Tripping In The Dark," I highly recommend it. Tells the story of how Holy Ghost came to be and make it that much more special of a record.
A round of applause for mynameisbob finally getting the recognition he deserves from theneedledrop at 4:52
fantano, review you're gonna miss it all
Wow, Anthony liked this one way more than I was expecting him too. One of my favorites of the year so far. Glad to hear such a surprisingly positive review.
this is a good win for the emo community, i'm glad that i'm here for it.
Freaked out when I saw this, I never thought you would do a video about them. Loved the album
Please review Maria Usbeck's Amparo. I found this album to be such a stunning little find. Kind of reminds me of Vespertine (but in a very different way) with all the little clicks and clacks going on in the background. Where Vespertine evoked winter with its icy and cold electronic sounds, Amparo evokes the jungle. Really, really loved it. Would love to see your take on it.
Brendan tried to kill himself last year before writing this album
August of 2015, right when I got in to them. It kinda made me sad a lot when I heard that.
I met Jake. Great guys for real. I'm glad Brendan knows how much the fans do love what he does and support him.
This review is going to finish him off.
I think he left that out from this review on purpose.
super insensitive and rude to comment this out of context and without elaboration
I saw them last night. It was so hard for him to perform "Just Another Face", he ran off stage when the song was over. It was terrible
Would love to see a review of Basement - Promise Everything. One of my favourite albums this year with Weezer and Radiohead.
You should review, or if not review just listen to 'Teen Suicide - It's the big joyous celebration, let's stir the honeypot.'
Quite a good album
I really like this band. But I also don't really compare them to emo bands because I hear a little more of punk roots from them.
I liked how the record seemed to be divised in two according to the two signers. also, if you want to review more emo : The Hotelier just released there last album "The Goodness"
Hey, Anthony. I know it's an older album, but I really liked Turnover's Peripheral vision (also on Runforcover)...I think it's a fresh and a bit more dreamy direction. It also has some great lyrics...Your thoughts?
You should give a listen to the album Celebrate by Tiny Moving Parts
An album I really think you should review is Tiny Moving Parts - Celebrate
I would love to see a review of the new Tiny Moving Parts album
You should review Car Seat Headrest's new album!
Review Teen Suicide's new album " It's the Big Joyous Celebration, Lets Stir the Honey Pot"
NeedleDrop! New Hotelier Album! Do a review, please
+SheIIdon YES!
+SheIIdon Hell Yeah, we need that!!
+SheIIdon Yessss.
ryanmorelli Yeeeep.
+SheIIdon I thought it came out on the 27th?
Late to the party but man was MoBo’s run of music damn good. If you listen to their stuff chronologically it’s just amazing where they started and ended, but maybe that’s just my nostalgia talking.
Started off as a quirky quick-witted folky duo that were basically putting out pop tunes and ended as a sharp pop punk group really leaning into hardcore and emo
Can you review the new Car Seat Headrest album please? It will be interesting to see how you think this one differs to the last.
modern baseball is the only modern emo/pop punk band i genuinely like. good to hear fantano digs them too
Could you give Tiny Moving Part's new album "Celebrate" a listen. I'd like to hear your thoughts on it.
Anthony can you review this review?
the fact that fantano likes HG completes my life bc I was so scared he wasn't gonna like it and it's like my favorite album
7?! WE REALLY OUT HERE
Anthony,
Converge is releasing a remixed/remastered version of You Fail Me on June 17th. Would you please think about reviewing it?
Are you planning on reviewing the new Car Seat Headrest record? (Also, nice review).
Flume's new album drops Friday. Gotta be reviewing that one
I'm seeing him live but knowing from past its gonna me a 6 or a 4 :/
that's Anthony btw
The Final Dawn
Seen him live a couple of times. He does make the crowed bump.
He never reviewed the first Flume album. But I think I did hear him say he didn't feel it. What I have heard from the latest record it is a very different sound to his first album. Be interesting to see how Flumthony Flumtano reacts to it. For me, his first album is still an absolute jam fest.
+SwayJJ i still feel like it's gonna be lower than a 7
WHYISTHEAWORD MAN Giving a prediction before even hearing everything on the album. Psychic
review for the new underachievers album ? and pouya's underground underdog ?
pls review the Brave Little Abacus. You'll love it for its originality and distinct sound
Not as good as your gonna miss it all but it grew on me, mass is my fav track wish it was longer
I was ready for the destruction, I was not ready to leave happy . I love this band. I love you.
I don't get this bands name...what the hell is baseball?
It's an American sport.
+Captain Crusty like American Football?
+mc ride was based on a book called "modern baseball techniques" found in one of their basements I think
+mc ride watch their documentary called tripping in the dark it's really good
+mc ride nice profile picture
Would love to hear your thoughts on the new Pinegrove album called Cardinal.
Hey, i would love to here what you are thinking about Karnivool. I love their first album Themata (2005). I listen to it for almost a year now and I can't stop listening to it.
Could you review the new tiny moving parts album please Anthony?
I've never suggested a review, but I'm going to join the fray and suggest "Celebrate" by Tiny Moving Parts. I really like it, and I'm interested to hear what you think.
Flume's Skin LP is dropping may 27th. Hopefully you review it soon
you should do a review of the new tiny moving parts album celebration
Hey Anthony, I'd love to see you review my favorite bands new album. Plants and Animals Waltzed in from the Rumbling.
May you please do "Celebrate" by Tiny Moving Parts? Would really appreciate it! :)
What are your thoughts on Say Anything, Fantano? Is A Real Boy is hella solid Emo Pop.
Hey you should do You're Gonna Miss It All from Modern Baseball. I think you'd enjoy that more than this.
MIR6GE ...nah
What are your thoughts on Pinegrove also on RFC? They have a folksy/blues twist to emo, one of the more refreshing emo artists I've heard for a while
Honestly, I don’t agree with some of the reviews but it’s good for artists. It helps them learn from their mistakes and make a new album better than all the ones a band makes. It’s a good idea
Ever given Tiny Moving Parts a listen? After this review it'd be cool to see what you think of their new album.
Can you review Deerhoof's colab with Marcos Balter - Balter / Saunier. I found it to be quite an interesting move by Deerhoof
Do Car Seat Headrests new album PLEASE
Have you heard the new Twin Peaks album? I'm interested as to what you'd think of it
Hey Anthony, you should listen to the new Told Slant album, 'Going By'. It's got a wacky sound so it might not be for everyone but I think you'd find their style of music interesting.
Do you plan on reviewing the Flume album when it drops friday?
I love you for reviewing this. not really sure if you review much modern metal but review Architects- All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us. there's a pretty solid fan base for them in the US, UK and Australia
Doesn't come out until this Friday though but the new singles are phenomenal
Does anyone know what Anthony thought of the front bottoms self titled album? That's my favourite punk/emo record
Happy to see you reviewing bands like Modern Baseball and The Front Bottoms!
Review Tiny Moving Parts "Celebrate."
What about a review of the new Masta Ace Album, The Falling Season? Would be nice.
Hello there Sad Boy! Do you have any good advices for 90's or 2000's emo bands? And by curiosity, which of the current emo bands with no news ideas are you referring to?
So "Your Gonna Miss It All" (their record before this one) was totally on Run For Cover. Just saying
Yeah I love this album so much. Much like anything I expect a new album to be better than the previous albums. It's not but its just as good as the previous ones which is fantastic.
I assumed that this would get an absolute mauling, nice review
Anthony, check out an album named "Desires Magic Theater" by a band called "Purson"
TEENS OF DENIAL BY CAR SEAT HEADREST ????
I'd like to see a review of CAR SEAT HEADREST'S Teens Of Denial, if you feel so inclined!
i kind of resent that you said lots of emo artists are just rehashing 1990-2000s emo, it would be worth your time to maybe check out Standards, which is the new into it over it record. or celebrate which is the new tiny moving parts record. either way, good review! :)
will you review autechre's elseq 1 - 5? you've done the epic, frozen niagara falls and to be kind. this should be a piece of cake
Maybe review Side Pony by Lake Street Dive? Might be a change of pace from other stuff, just a suggestion.
Hey my Manthony, you should for sure review the five new Autechre EP's!
Mobo is basically Midwest emo The Killers and I love it
You gonna review the new Car Seat Headrest album?
I've been hearing a lot about a possible EP from Ghost (B.C.) coming out soon in 2016. When it comes out could you review it?
Anthony, you should have a listen to Loyle Carner's Stars and Shards. I think he's a UK-based rapper, has a great bassline, delivery, and lyrics.
New Tiny Moving Parts LP?
Have you listened to Headspace by ISSUES. Came out last Friday
Fuck yeah man, I really liked this record! I liked your review even better, really fresh, catchy and entertaining. I have subscribed! Keep doing awesome shit
thoughts on aphex twin 2015 soundcloud uploads (28 organ, etc)?
Are you gonna review the new The Hotelier album when it comes out?
I really really hope you review Teens of Denial!
Will you review Flume's album which should be released in a few days?
