  • Here's a quick introductory video on the new Whale scanner from 3DMakerPro. It's a dual scanner for small and medium sized objects and has its own software. It also works in the infrared range so there's no visible light coming out of the scanner.
Check out the part of the video where I capture the infrared pattern. There will be more on this scanner in the future.

Texture mapping is for when you have the colour kit and it will align photos from a dslr/smart phone over the top of the fused item

Also while 3DMakerPro was campaigning this scanner the community asked for a 3m cable and they are making them as a add on

@@Marvel3DUK Well that would seem to make sense…it’s rather confining. Are you saying that the scanner will not map textures on its own? I saw there was a DSLR kit which will do this with external jpgs much like in Artec Studio 17, but it seems even the basic textures are not working for me or are on the wrong side of the mesh.

@@3Dforensics so the scanner will search for texture and will pick up on the fabric on a trainer for instance in texture mode. But the option for “texture mapping” is for the additional kit to add a coloured skin on top of the scan so you can import the coloured scan into say a game.

That software appears to be bought in from Creality. I have their Lizard scanner and when you begin to scan you choose between "geometry" and "texture" modes. Those modes are for getting surface 3D detail in two different ways. Maybe the Whale works the same way and you can't add texture unless you scanned in that mode in the first place? And yes, photographic textures (which are something else) require the use of a good photo camera (DSLR or phone) with Creality and, I'm guessing the Whale too.

At first glance I'd say thats USB 1.0 not USB 3. Starting at USB3 it was standard to be standard to color code them blue for easy identification (The white part inside the USB male end you showed). Maybe I'm wrong.

The support people suggested I plug into the USB 3.0 port and so I did. I could test it on another port.

I really hope these come down in price...or maybe just come in a 300€ Android in some years.

Photogrammetry is the next best thing. You can do a lot on a budget with a little bit of creativity
