    Thanks! I looked at a lot of videos that advocated building a second floor on top of the sloped first floor, but that would raise the whole floor and would be really difficult to rip all the boards into the perfect triangle shapes. Your technique worked really well for me. But I put boards on either side of the original joist so that the pressure would be equally applied to the center.

    good vid. thumbs up... BTW you should stagger your joints to keep things tight. never want four corners meeting on the ply subfloor.

    This technique will save me thousands of dollars. We had a foundation guy come out and wanted to charge $6,000 to raise the pier and beam foundation on a porch. With this technique we will use 2X4s and cover it with 3/4 inch plywood and carpet over that.

    Thank you for your time doing the video. I'd only add two comments that might make life easier / better.
    1. After putting coach bolts through, clean the exposed thread a bit more helps the bolts ease on a lot easier.
    2. I would be temped to have the holes drilled through the timber/joist at right angles, so they run straight through. Thus getting a better fit on the washer/wood joint.
    And if your working with sheet materials. Treat yourself to a FESTOOL TS55 or similar, it's super great for quickly and accurately cutting sheet materials.

    Absolutely brilliant, thank you. The explanation was very clear, well structured and not too fast. I have an underfloor repair to do on my 120 year old house and all these techniques are useful to me.
    Appreciate the effort. Good job, good karma

  • @dthomas15

    Not crazy about that notch at the end to accommodate the brick. I would have chiseled out part of the brick using a drill if necessary and taken it down another 1/2". That short lip is prone to splitting and is far too shallow to provide the need strength needed for fastening to the sub-floor. That edge will be critical in matching the ends to the existing sub-floor. A split/crack in the lip will bring a great deal of grief.

    2x4 are ok? What if the original floor has bigger? still ok to use 2x4?

    • @Blobjonblob
      @Blobjonblob Před 8 lety +4

      The 2x4s are just to level the floor the main strength are the joist but if you got room to add a 2x6 etc work away more strength the better. What I would suggest is when you sister up your joist use a construction adhesive as well as lags, the combination of lags and adhesive make for a very strong floor.
