- We are using Native New Zealand timber for this floor. It is beautiful but the floor framing isn't. In this episode, we show a quick way to straighten the floor frame. Also, I show you the camera gear I use to make my videos.

It’s actually a very well written and comprehensive book czcams.com/users/postUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 . I wanted to pair this with an updated book on local codes to start planning a post-retirement dream shop. I think I have just about everything I need between the two. The extra plans available for purchase towards the end are priced almost as much as full home plans, not little sheds however.
The more I watch your video’s Scott the more I’m impressed by your intelligence and attention to detail.👍👍👍
Terry Topliss great comment very "constructive"
Agreed! I’m an Australian Sparky and I’m amazed at how many sub par trades you come across! Scott looks like he would be a dream to work with!
His intelligence? He is trusting those guys with his B camera. :P
Chris Babbitt because if they break it he can get another new one on a tax right off! Intelligent 😂
This is how all tradies should be 👍. Knowledge is unbelievable
Richard with an oilers hat now... he’s making a statement to all the Canadians watching this channel 😂
Always fun watching you guys, stay safe lads.
I come here for the good carpentry and music. Keep up the good work my friend.
- All the way from north west Indiana U.S.A.
When the guy said "I think it is in reverse" - I laughed with you because I have done this myself so many times!
If pursuing a carpentry apprenticeship next month over here in Seattle Washington and man your videos get me so excited
This is minor, but I love that you guys wear hearing protection. So many people I see don't have any hearing protection or thoughts about it. I wear some kind of hearing protection quite a lot, and it's nice to see other people who value their hearing.
Really insteresting and fun videos you make Scott. and take your well deserved break.. enjoy
The interludes of music are always cool, particularly cool in this video.
ah the screwing in screws backwards happens to the proffesionals too Xd
@@ohasis8331 after the first time he better be paying for new bits lol
No not really, if you are that dumb you are too dumb to work on my job. These girls would get bullied off the job for any number of reasons. It's only a matter of time until someone that dumb drives a truck into the house or burns it down, no thanks.
No, professionals do not burn in screws in reverse. That's absurdly amateur.
Unfortunately for some "professionals" it takes a lot longer to work out as shown :/
The way the episode caption was put on the back of the bus was class, nice editing
Missed your videos SBC.. a beautiful Kauri floor! Looking forward to the boys’ videos!😎
Your attention to details is amazing. We just had a house built and they didn't do half the shit your team does. Everything is half assed when it comes to the floor and framing
I WANT ONE OFF THOSE SCOTT BROWN CARPENTRY T SHIRTS 😪
Thanks for another great episode guys!
Great vid! Definitely watched it all the way through
i love that Richard has such a great sense of humor about himself.
Ahhhh Scott brown videos just make me smile. the perfect short dose of DIY i need...
one chippie to another...Nice work bro...Enjoy the vids... U seem to have a easy going/ relaxed manner, which makes for a smooth work flow and less mistakes...And easy to work with...Chur
Who in North America was watching them put down the floor and was like “what, no subfloor”.
We don't have subfloors in New Zealand. T&g goes on joists (same if using chipboard flooring and carpet)
Not just North America...in the UK here. Our engineered wooden 18mm flooring is laid on top of 9mm ply, on 3mm underlay, on basic floorboards on top of joists. And it still creaks a bit in places! I'm really surprised this solution doesn't feel spongey, even with really well installed joist frame
Subfloor as in underlay?
Most new homes (Australia ) have a 19mm particle board sheeting installed under the floorboards first, then the poly-glue is trowel along with secret nails. This renovation looks like they have had to match existing floor heights, hence the installation methods they have Chosen. What they have done is still mostly compliant with code, as long as the floorboards are end matched and correct secret nails are used. :)
samoan SAIYAN Yes, to support the floor on top.
Actually no
“What is a subfloor?
The subfloor is the next layer above the joists and acts as a foundation for both the underlayment and surface levels of flooring. A subfloor provides a stable, level surface that new flooring can be easily installed on.”
Scott man. One of the best vids you've done! Can't wait to see the footage from the "B" camera lol
Perfect as usual Scott, such attention to detail.👍👍
The music for this video is awesome. Love this beat!!
Large dry erase job site calendar and info - LOVE IT!
That’s whacked cool. I literally just did the same thing yesterday and today this video pops up
love the vibe scotty, becomming a nice habit back here in sweden to watch your videos. and im not even in to carpentry hehe :)
Scottyy your channel is one of my favourite CZcams channel
Now this is a proper floor! Good job!
Good bunch of guys.🏴
Lol I was awake watching your videos and just got a notification at 5:06am guess I'm staying up
With all the stupidity and lose of anything rational. Your videos show the world a better place and decency. Thank you.
Heyy, soon 200.000 subs. Way to go Scott!
Well deserved break at that. Shame you couldn't have come to Scotland for it! 🏴❤
Great video with great music. Thanks.
Nice Oilers hat Richard
Ingenious! Great work
your native tree pronunciation is on point Scott ! nice one
You gotta love these guys!!
That new flooring looks mint!
really surprised that you don't have floor sheeting under the Kauri boards. I live in Europe and I had forgotten the simpler construction methods of NZ
That start made me chuckle over breakfast
...You are a lucky guy to have sooo nice colleagues !!! Still love your videos 💖
Once Scott is gone, the shenanigans will start.
Nice work brother i enjoy your videos!
From Russia with looove!! :-)
Very nice job. CZcams channel - super!!
looking forward to the lads videos :-)
Wooo! I’m interested to see what the guys will get up to! Those kids and their hijinks!
i am amazed that there is no barrier between the flooring and the joist
Sensational content. Thank you team
I had the same damn thing with this drywal gun. Even took the whole thing apart :D your not the only one out there
I’ve been waiting ages for a new video
Awesome work as alway👌🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Great video and work mate..very funny
That was a good call on the adding boards to the joist. Either gonna cost in material or time.
Was going to heckle Richard for wearing a canucks hat a while back but refrained, now I’m glad to see he’s wearing a real teams hat. Let’s go Oilers!
On some real shit Scott I hope one day i get to work with you. I like how clean you are
Damn you got him like an apprentice! Happened to me the exact same way, expect mine was with a senco. Got me the Hilti collated gun and god damn its amazing
Why even have reverse on a screw gun 😂
No notification on this one for some reason.... Good stuff Dudely!
This is not a knock at all, I LOVE your stuff, really solid!
In Canada we have floor joists and then lay subfloor (3/4" or 5/8" plywood as eg) is it climate that negates the need for a sub floor where you are? Just curious as I know climates need different solutions.
very instructive - tks. Any reason why there isn't any under floor insulation?
Watching from Denmark. This is the first time i have seen pink wood
super cool tip ,fixing new joists to old to level the room,il be using that one ,update on the martinez m1 or m4 hammer would be tool xmas is coming, good work guys ;-)
Great vibes cheers lads
Best site for music to accompany a building video.
good on Richard to put up with your "Reverse" tricks guys.....funny!
the t + g flooring was fixed together tight and without expansion gaps?
Scott,
Can you please do a video on the difference between a carpenter, cabinet maker and joiner?
Spot on mate 👌
Scott the sound track was exceptional. Have you thought of producing a Scott Brown films soundtrack? NZ music has an awesome vibe. Stay safe...😎
Sick vid as usual Scott. Have you ever considered filming in 60fps? Would be much nicer in my opinion
Can anyone tell me what brand and model the long blue straight edge is? I can’t find it anywhere in Scott’s tool list.
My crew just did this to an entire floor in a 4 story house. Those sisters are key!
what is the type of glue Sctoo used for the tungue and groove flooring and gage of nail?
Perfection, that's why good tradesmen are worth double to most that work to a passable standard
What are the lateral wall studs for? I never see those in the US--just vertical studs.
Aren't there issues with expansion if the boards are fixed?
Hey, How are those work boots Scott? They aren't popular here (Canada) but don't know why, I'm looking to get a pair as i'm constantly in and out of finished houses and a slip on pair would save me time. Hows the ankle support? Do you have a laced pair at all?
Love the videos! Enjoy your time off!
Love the wood Kauri wood is from very very special trees almost all gone now..sadly exploited native timber
Does it not affect the load on the previous joists ? Genuine question
I have one of those Milwaukee screw guns and they are amazing
Bro, that screwgun was crackup. Same thing happened to me last while the boys had the gib overhead 😂🤦♂️
What lens are you using on your camera? Great content as always bud!
What tool did you use to cut the old floor so close along the line of the bottom plate
What kind of glue did you use for the flooring 😊
When you cut the old wood flush to the wall do you jsut go around with the multitool/oscillating saw and do that inch at a time or is there another tool?
Crain toe kick saw
Is there a reason to face nail the flooring vs using a Pneumatic flooring nailer?
Rich just needs a Scott brown company van now, festol dry wall gun is best I’ve used 🔥🔫
Nice😍Singapore here
how much of a gap do u leave around the outer edge of the floor boards?
What brand/model is that blue straight edge?
Fine work, gents!
Hi, who makes blue straight edge you use to check for flatness, what is the name if it? Thanks.
Check out Advantech Subfloor Adhesive or Great Stuff Pro Construction Adhesive. The Foam cans with the gun. Adhesive Caulking is almost obsolete with these products. One can of foam glue will last beyond many many tubes of caulk so you don't have to switch tubes so often. You don't have to squeeze caulk anymore either. Worth it.
Really wanted to know what to do matching up Totara 1965 to 1970 weatherboard (21mm thick) to new H3.2 19mm.
Unfortunately no answers here.
My brother-in-law once cut half a load of firewood with the saw-chain on his chainsaw on backwards. He sharpened it several times, but “it didn’t seem to make much difference”!
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂.... how do you even install it backwards? The gearing/ chain interface is usually directional so it can't go backwards!
The sprocket is omni-directional to allow it to be turned to get even wear and although the chain drive-tangs are scalloped on one side to allow sawdust to self-clear, the chain will very easily go on backwards. It is an easy mistake to put it on backwards, but to persist and attempt to cut for 15 minutes or so is the extraordinary part!
Hello from California! Framing question. Why do you have blocks between studs?
Thanks
Oilers hat... in New Zealand? Wait, let me grab my All Blacks t-Shirt in Canada.
Hey Scott, how come there isn't a subfloor below the hardwood floor? Is that a common method in New Zealand?
We would just rip down and shim the top of the old lumber, sometimes use 1/2, 1/4, 3/4" ply wood pieces. Expensive material bill to use additional joist material to just make up a small space.
