As a consultant I would be pretty upset. She said that she didn't have a budget, I'm going to pull expensive dresses that have everything she wants, and to find a dress for her, to now tell me she does have one, it would feel like I wasted my time. If she told them she did have a budget, they could've pulled dresses in her price range and find a dress that meets her standards.

    • @alexrusso6503
      @alexrusso6503 Před 7 měsíci +22

she did find her dress just no one was supportive so she second guessed herself and kept looking. All bc mom was being inconsiderate and selfish. It's her daughter's wedding and her dress and her money. She probably would have brought this one if mom really liked it too but she knew it wasn't genuine. And that's what she wanted most someone to validate her and approve of the dress. Mom did this to herself and the other daughter by not acknowledging what her daughter wanted and only focused on her vision which doesn't matter!
It's more difficult when they are paying for the dress but in this case they weren't so it was really just validation she wanted and to do that would have cost the mom nothing. She only turned on the water works when she realized she was gonna change out of that dress and keep looking bc the sister suggested if she cried she may pick the dress... Very sad her own family couldn't be supportive of her over something as simple as a dress. And if they really didn't want to shop with her to this extent they should have just told her nicely they think its better if she shops alone bc they are complicating the decision. Not come along just to complain the whole damn time and just say yes to any dress to get it over with.

@@alexrusso6503 The mum is great, she's finding the humour in the situation rather than getting frustrated with the bride. And the sister obviously 'gets it' and makes it into a double act with "I think if you were to shed a tear she might do it".
As for not being supportive, you may have noticed they didn't say any of this to her face, they were just having a giggle between themselves while she was getting changed, and why shouldn't they? They look like a family who are used to teasing each other and there was certainly no ill feeling when they were all together afterwards.
If the bride had wanted to spend that much money she'd have got the dress whatever her mum said, simple as that. Her sister hit the nail on the head when she said she liked the dress but didn't want to pay that much for it and she agreed. She was only hesitating out of embarrassment because she'd originally told the staff there was no budget.

@@cyflym11 I do agree with that it doesn't seem like there were any hurt feelings over this and this is just normal banter and joking in their family. Hell mine is that way.
They were funny. But they did complicate the dress selection and though they didn't say it to her face it did effect their attitude towards the process. Which who wouldn't be over it shopping that many times that's just human nature hoe you feel about something effects your actions.
I don't think they realized how important that approval and validation was to this process and I think that's what the sales ppl gave her and that's why she went with the dress she loved originally. If mom had done that then and taken it a little more seriously they wouldn't of had to keep shopping. There's really no way she could have known and she just doesn't seem like that kinda "mom" she's more chill and relaxed and down to earth.
So no I don't think anyone meant any harm here. I don't think the bride was upset either. I think it just complicated the process and then to complain about it is ironic when your actions contributed to it. Mom did mention still about the vision she had for her daughter although she was the least pushy out of any one I've seen on that show about it.. BY FAR. And I don't think it really mattered much to mom I just think she personally wasn't a fan of the style dresses.

I genuinely didn't have a budget when I was wedding dress shopping. I was fortunate enough that my fiancé is in a very good financial position and he told me I could spend whatever I had to spend to feel good.
I told the consultant I had an unlimited budget and that I didn't want to know how much the dresses were when I was trying them on, I just wanted dresses that looked good and made me feel good and whether that was £1000 or £10,000 so be it. In the end I got 2 dresses for £2200 and I couldn't have loved anything more, or felt better in anything, if it had cost a million pounds.
I paid for my dresses outright there and then & ended up getting a 3rd dress the next day that I had loved, but my bridal part didn't like and the bridal shop gave me a discount as it was a small business. I insisted on paying full price for the 3rd dress but she wouldn't allow it so I got 3 dresses for £3000 and they were all paid for there and then, just as they would have been had I spent 30k (which I wouldn't have done). My fiancé would have done but I wouldn't & that's why I asked the consultant not to see the prices beforehand because I know I would have ended up going for what was cheapest rather than what I liked because I was conscious of not wanting to spend my fiancés money even though I had carté blanché to do so.
So, yes, some brides do genuinely have an unlimited budget, & pay 100% of the price there and then to ensure the business owner knows it is paid. Then would pay for alterations further down the line when we knew how much they would cost.

As a bridal stylist, I focus my brides on how they want to FEEL on their special day. And I could tell from the picture of her in 1004 that she looked so happy. I could tell that was her gown just from the picture. With 4 months, though, she’s hands down having to do an expedited rush on the gown which is extra money on top of the $3200. Even with no budget discussed (which would’ve frustrated me), the stylists did exactly what I would’ve done and put her in a gown that was another version of the one she was loving. And even though she looked beautiful with the veil on, she was still thinking about 1004 while she was in that other dress. What she was truly looking for was the permission to say yes. She just had to give that permission to herself

To all the comments dissing this bride’s process - it’s OK to find one dress and go to the best in town to see if they can top it. Then evaluate if it’s worth it and make the call. She was upfront from the start. Behind all the drama, she was quite shrewd and did what’s best for her, and looked great!

She made the right choice. She should have spoken up and given a budget. It is a lot of money and unless a person is rich, they will understand that $3200 is more than enough to spend on a dress. Doubling that for a dress you only slightly like better is not worth it.
I didn’t buy my favourite wedding dress either. I bought one that was gorgeous and a fraction of the cost of the dress I would have chosen if there had not been a budget. It’s one day. The dress matters but no, it shouldn’t just be thrown on a credit card if it’s out of budget

I feel like when a bride is so picky that after dozens and dozens of gowns, she finds fault with each and everyone, she's not looking to get married, she's looking to make a statement. At the end of the day, a wedding should be about the couple starting a new life together. It shouldn't be about appearing perfect or like this or that because who cares?! Brides like this should ask themselves what they're striving for that day and why. When a bride makes it this hard, it's clear she's taken her eye off the proverbial ball.

If that's how you feel, that's fine. Wear jeans and go to the courthouse.
Not everyone is like you, some people really enjoy fashion and have been saving up for years to get something that makes them feel really special, and that their future spouse will be moved to tears to see them in. That experience of walking down the aisle is a happy moment for the couple and their families that they've been dreaming about since their child was born. Every culture on the planet makes a big deal about weddings because it IS a big deal. Marking the occasion with these rituals will impress upon the young couple the seriousness of the vows they're taking.

My dream dress was a simple long dress with most of the train pulled up and held in place with duchesse satin fabric roses. Back interest for the ceremony. Narrow straps (not spaghetti) and, to satisfy the modesty mores of the time, a duchesse satin bolero-type jacket. No lace, no beading. Very late 50s, early 60s. Simple. In the end, I made my 1972 duchesse satin short dress with "wedding bell" sleeves, empire waisted, with cotton lace at the empire waist, and the sleeve's wrist edge. No beading. A pale blue ribbon in my hair because I felt silly in a veil.
