Heated Debate: Should We Hand Back The Crown Jewels? | Good Morning Britain

  • The Queen Consort, Camilla, has opted not to wear the crown that contains the controversial Koh-i-Noor diamond for the King's Coronation.
Royal experts say the decision has been taken to avoid a diplomatic row, as the UK has been in possession of the diamond since the East India Company seized it in 1849.
As India says the diamond "brings back painful memories of the colonial past", is it time for the diamond to be returned back to India - and should we hand back the Crown Jewels to their true owners?

I know this is being treated with humour, but the treatment of Ireland and the Irish is identical to India and all other nations who have been vanquished by stronger nations. While it is a serious issue, we simply need to suck it up and move on. We are no longer victims, whether Indian, Irish, Welsh, Scottish, Inca, Malayan etc., etc., we are need to move on and stop looking back. The people who robbed and enslaved our ancestors can never pay back what was taken by their ancestors.

@@PapaJoeWalsh You forgot nigeria though. I agree with you . For some reason , I feel like the british treated Irish better because they are white. I mean obviously it maybe not. But the thing is that Irish people have been under the british for 8 centuries. So most probably they would have known english, use british accent, for cultural stuff. They might have adopted. The british can't really distinguish if someone is Irish or not . Irish then could have an advantage because they are white and can act as british in order to get benefits. Regardless, i agree that today uk is not responsible for past . We should acknowledge and move on.

Kohinoor was originally taken from a temple in Andhra Pradesh in South India. Pakistan has nothing to do with it. Similarly Ranjit Singh, Nadir Shah, Ahmedad shah Abdali, Mughal Empire, have nothing to do with it either. Thieves and Bandits cannot claim ownership.
However, it is better for it to stay where it is, as if it will come to India, someone may steal it like someone stole the Nobel Prize of Rabindranath Tagore. It is better if the UK pays for it to India, and the money can be used to build several world class hospital in Andhra Pradesh.

    To Emma Webb,
Britain first colonize India as a whole, and looted many things out of which one is Kohinoor. Your reason for not returning it back is that whom to give it to India or Pakistan or Afghanistan, whom you yourselves partitioned before independence.
One thing to be noted, there was no Pakistan or Afghanistan (no disrespect) at the time you took it or even at the time it was mined out of the Indian Soil (Probable Mined Location: Andhra Pradesh).
It was possessed by many rulers over the period of time, and that doesn't defy the ownership of the diamond from its actual owner.
It's like you have your Precious Billion Dollars Diamond Jewellery being stolen/gifted by your husband/bf to another girl, and then that girl sells it to someone else, who gift it to their precious one which got stolen by a "middle-eastern person" and sold in to "shady merchant", from whom someone brought it and presented it to my Friend.
And when she goes and check the authenticity form of a legalised Jweller. She got to know about the actual ownership of the Jewellery being YOU!
What should she do now, should she return it back? Or should she keep it for herself just because it was being presented as a gift!?
It was notified to you back by the legalised Jweller, but now both you & your husband are divorced.
So my friend is just holding the Jewellery to herself just to avoid a dispute between "YOU" (who it belongs to, 'coz its "registered on you name") AND "your ex-husband" (who technically brought it for you by his "hard earned efforts"!), Now does her act it justifiable? Do you allow that?

In Hindu Santana Dharma work divide system called as Varna system “वर्ण व्यवस्था” (CASTE NAMED was NOT in the HINDU Santana Vedic dharma text scriptures). Hindu Vedic dharma text scriptures called as varna system which was NOT on the basis of birth but on the basis of KARMA (person's actions). According to Hindu scriptures, the society has been given stability by the work of four varnas - Brahman (work related to education), Kshatriya (protection from enemies), Vaishya (commerce) and Shudra (industry and art). Each person first born in Shudra Varna and then after him/her knowledge go to the next level, even 1st class to the degree of master. If you, born in the Brahman family, are free to choose, you can go work on the Shudra family to become Shudra same if you were born in Shudra you can go to Brahman Varna as the Valmiki Shudra family wrote Ramayana. And we have around thousands of young Indians with raw modern talent with high calibre which are more precious than any lifeless stone even today india nominal GDP is more than English
As a true indian patriot I don't need any type of useless diamond in my nation we don't like to play victim cards of our colonized past and don't demand any unfair thing from colonizers the Kohinoor is now Brits property and it may be blessed to them only so jai hind 🇮🇳

The Koh-i-noor diamond is disputed, and rightly so... But the star of Africa was given to the sovereign at the time, as a birthday gift... You don't return a gift 😂🤣🤡
The Cullinan diamond was purchased, legally by the prime minister of the Transvaal people and then gifted to the King. The crown was gifted the diamond...
Koh-i-noor diamond had first been apart of the Persian Empire, through the years landed into Mughal hands and into the Sikhs of Punjab.. India holds claim to the diamond, but so too does Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran... Imagine giving it to any of these nations would just spark more issues between these nations...
The United Kingdom has rejected any and all claims to the diamond anyway as they're apart of the crown jewels and owned by the government and aren't allowed to leave British soil anyway..
Honestly, if it's come down to arguing about a bloody diamond then I have no hope for the future of the countries involved... Shame

Today, the diamond is on public display in the Jewel House at the Tower of London. The governments of India, Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, as well as the Taliban, have all claimed ownership of the Koh-i-Noor, demanding its return ever since India gained independence from the British Empire in 1947.[15] The British government insists the gem was obtained legally under the terms of the Last Treaty of Lahore and has rejected the claims.
In 2018, at the Supreme Court of India the Archeological Survey of India clarified that the diamond was surrendered to the British and "it (the diamond) was neither stolen nor forcibly taken away".

    • @souravmohite4443
      @souravmohite4443 Před 4 měsíci

Your arguments are as fake as "Great" Britain... ASI clarified that the Diamond was surrendered to British not gifted.. & the looters are defending their crimes by keeping such artifacts, causing more division in communities. What about the Murtis of gods, Swords of Maharajas, are they too "gifted" or looted for displaying the power of empire.. You mean, Indians have to come to looters to see their artifacts... what that murtis of gods even mean to looters, that is nothing but stone for looters... but, for us that is our culture..!! We will bring our artifacts back in future.. We are not colony of English anymore.. just wait nd watch...!!
