As a second gen immigrant to this country, I definitely think people are ashamed of being English. During the World cup i put up england flags on my house and received negative comments from certain people. People like Narinder - this country is probably the most inclusive country in Europe!

"Diversity is a strength." is a Marxist lie. A society without unified common ideals, morals and goals is weaker. It's been shown that within a culturally diverse society, fewer people interact and do volunteer work. Everyone grows apart. It's a downward spiral.

My parents were born in Yugoslavia, what is now North Macedonia. I was born in England. We celebrate orthodox holidays privately at home, and join in with all UK celebrations the rest of the year. I am proud of my heritage, but on the same note, when the national anthem plays and the union jack is shown, i couldnt be prouder and it does bring tears to my eyes. People who try to change the hundreds of years of a countries history are a disgrace. I dont know who this woman is but she is a joke.

The English flag was the arms of Wessex (until 1066), Normandy (1154) and then the House of Plantagenet (until the St George flag was adopted). The St George's flag was not adopted until King Edward III. Nearly a millennium is not a millennium.

Britain and the US pretend that their wealth and prosperity wasn’t built off of imperialism and violent colonialism. This country is slowly becoming unrecognisable. That’s the sad reality of all of this.
I grew up in London and it's become very unrecognisable. The Home Counties are more English but London is something and nothing. Thankfully I don't live there anymore. I wouldn't live there again. I’m proud to be English more than ever, I’m mixed English Wessie (Yorkshire) & Caribbean, born and raised in Yorkshire and I hold my head high being a Wessie Lass and have such a proud Yorkshire family, my father has never been a good role model to me, and a lot of my Caribbean family use try and make me ashamed of it weirdly enough but I never listened. My dad and his family tried so hard to make me feel shameful for being English and if I did I’d probably grow up to have stupid views like this woman here. My Caribbean family They also use to bully me for being a white passing mixed woman and make fun of my European features and say I wasn’t ethnic enough. All I’ve ever felt is home in this country, that I will always call my country, no one can ever tell me England and the rest of Great Britain are not tolerant, because it has always been these sour, bitter minorities parts of my family and others that have such hateful hearts about something that has the most catered to them. Christ, this was not a debate at all, woman is speaking over everyone.

When the woman said "you're being ignorant" I almost spat out my tea. The Mughal Empire were no more Indian, than the British, they were Muslim and sought to spread their influence, culture, religion etc. across the continent. Indian history as we know it literally only exists due to British intervention, and and aid to their cause. Britain built infrastructure, schools, hospitals, made political reforms, established trade and (as an already inclusive and tolerant society for this period in history) respected local traditions and encouraged Indians to gain an education, or join the army led by Indian officers (at a later date) which at the time was unheard of. Most reference's towards religious and cultural intolerance, violence, colonialism, and turmoil between Britain and India stemmed from the East India Trading Company, which Britain dissolved due to their failure and overly-aggressive governance of the region - which is when the British Raj was introduced.
Remember that this own ladies grandparents immigrated from India to Britain following decolonisation, and millions of Indians volunteered to fight for Britain in both WWI, and WWII, again including this woman's own family. Her ignorance on the subject knows no bounds, and she aims to divide rather than unite which goes against all this nation has ever stood for.

I was born in Romania and moved to the UK 25 years ago and I am proud to be a British citizen. This woman should go and leave somewhere else if she hates the UK so much.
As a member of lower class (labour) or marginalised class of Indian society I thank the Britishers for rendering education and recruiting our marginalised community child into schools and police services respectively.

People with mixed heritage are always going to have mixed feelings at best towards the British flag for some fairly obvious historical reasons and that's always going to be the case. That being said, if that guy wants to wave around his flag and is proud to be British, he shouldn't be lumped in with the far right.

I love how she mentiones WW2 being the 'one good thing' when in my opinion (feel free to disagree) within the last few centuries whilst the UK is far from perfect historically speaking, it has/helped to: Defeat Napoleon, had iconic figures such as Wilberforce end slavery, fantastic prime ministers such as Gladstone and Disraeli giving common people the vote and creating the move towards public health and infrastructure, all those that sacrificed themselves during the First World War, the suffragette movement, WW2, the formation of the NHS in 1948 and the creation of a welfare state in addition to civil liberties such as free speech and political association. I already feel that this comment is bloody long so yeah feel free to agree/disagree with me but these accomplishments make me proud to be British.

People should be proud to be English, Kosovon, Nigerian, Pakistani, or from wherever. Not everything has to be political and a county represents more than it’s mere politics.
Think of the tremendous athletes we have, how well we have done recently in football, the amazing artist, academics and our traditions. These are the things that make me English and proud to be English and British. Not politicians, not the current agendas that people are running, but real people.
If you are Kosovan, Nigerian, Pakistani then you aren't English. You might have a British passport and therefore you are a British citizen but you can't be English. Same as an English person that moves to Scotland can't be Scottish.
The difference people have forgotten is those who come to this country and are born here are born British not English. People aren't born English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish. They are born British, they would only be one of those if their parents are indigenous.

I was brought up in England so was my mother, but my father was not. Many people came over in the sixties from elsewhere and had children here, their children now have children here, so what are they Nigerian or English. If a solider has children whilst on tour and his wife is with him and gives birth to their children in Germany are the children German or are they English? So how do you determine

Where you were born is impotant but you have to look into your heart, your mind and, especially, your soul. What nation is your first love and where are your loyalties? What nation are you prepared to stand with against adversity? I think you can be sure but such an appraisal must be truly honest.
