- In 2015 After 19 months of devoting 100% of her time to serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the New Hampshire Manchester Mission, Sister Kotahi Tarawhiti returns home. She is greeted by her family and her father, Wayne, who welcomes her with a Haka at the Salt Lake City Airport. Wayne was born and raised in New Zealand and is of Maori descent. Her Nan and Grandpa flew from New Zealand to surprise her as she returns home, and her Nan welcomed her first with a karanga.
Our family had not seen Kotahi for 19 months and only had contact by email 1x a week and Skype 2x a year for Christmas and Mothers day. That is one reason this Haka is so heart felt by her father. You can watch the deep love for our daughter shown here. Being Maori, this haka was the strongest way her father could show her how proud he was of her completing 19 months of service teaching others about the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Kotahi was raised in New Zealand until she was almost 11yrs old before moving to Utah. Kotahi's father coached the BYU Rugby team and we are grateful to some of his players who know Kotahi well to come and welcome her home with him. This Haka was actually written by Kotahi's uncle, Jayson Tarawhiti, which talks about the Book of Mormon. We are grateful for the positive response that people around the world have had to Kotahi's homecoming video. We pray that those of you who felt something or were moved in any way would find out more about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Also, watch for missionaries serving in your area and they will be happy to answer any questions you have.
Every daughter deserves a welcome back like that.

I'm in love with these Hakas. They move me to tears. I love the power in them
Respect 🤜🏼🤛🏼
I didn't start the video and I was already crying (ok, I'm on my fifth video for the night, but still.) XD
@binaryruffian You are funny, the women do the Haka just the same! You don't get far with your feminist BS.
@binaryruffian That's very sweet of you :) Thank you, maybe I shouldn't take everything so serious.
@binaryruffian Sometimes it's difficult to please everyone, right?! I keep on telling myself to shut up, but that doesn't work all the time either 😅 Just once in a while you meet someone nice! Thank you.
In Egypt we understand a powerful culture when we see it.
Greatest respect from Egypt.
Yours are very powerful once
And yours was the first Powerful Nation!
Cleopatra was black lol
Then why did you forgot your culture traditions that the Egyptians were known for since thousands of years and lost it to Islamic Invasion.
What an amazing way to greet your daughter when she returns from her journey (regardless of what her journey is about, I am not a religious person myself). He seems like a fantastic father to me to do such a thing for his child.
I'm lds myself and I really appreciate the respect in your words. Also, people who think haka dances are funny or strange needs to learn about other cultures ! Thank you again 😊
I'm wondering why these different haka dances keep moving me to tears
because of there strength and bond with each other
I have the same reaction 😊
I was just thinking the same exact thing. So powerful
I cry at every one I watch, even rugby ones. Your mind feels that raw emotion and it sparks something within you. Let it burn bright.
Yes, me too. Not sure why but it's very moving and meaningful.
The way she drops the bag and hugs her father with all her might and pride! Oh god! So inspiring.
Notice how the father wipes his own tears at the end? You can tell how proud he is of his daughter.
Notice how Utah State denied Frank the Head Coaching position and now the President of the University gets fired the Athletic Director was force to resign and now they're left at square one looking for a Head Coach again🙄
@@norrinradd8923 what the hell? Your panties must be real twisted up about that
@@kbeking2610 Yea I thought I hit a nerve..... you know the old saying "Truth Hurts"🤓
@@norrinradd8923 I like how you think you've done something here lol. I'm so glad you are super smart to show the rest of us the way. Stay dorky bro
@@kbeking2610 I'm glad you've stayed attached to this thread after all these years. Stay hooked on social media sis😂
I always cry when I see these Haka receptions. I feel so many things, just can't describe it.
That's exactly what happens to me everytime I see things like that! It's so beautiful, so deep, so intense!
no idea what they said or what it meant....but just by the way she dropped her bag n hugged her dad i could tell it meant the world!!! beautiful! now i need to educate myself on this....😁
I know this is late but the haka is a type of war chant/dance the maori and it is very deep within their culture.

Uncle you lead that haka with so much spirit of our family!
Pure Man, Pure Father, Pure Love... Pure Respect!
the laughter off-screen is a sign of low mind.
true
Yeah agree
Yes I was thinking to myself, how the hell is this funny? It's a beautiful cultural thing, you're lucky if you would be standing there to witness it. The laughing people are 9 out of 10 times folks from the "modern" world in the west, who barely or don't even got any culture themselfs.
Usually it's a nervous laughter, not lack of respect. Tribal dances are mighty impressive for the unprepared (Haka most of all!) and some times it's all one can do not to turn around and run!
The girls are crying, not laughing.
I couldn't think of a bigger honor but to step off a plane and be greeted with a haka
🤢🤮
This video made me cry. i served my mission in my own country. Lds missionary work was the most amazing part of my life
I know I probably sound dumb as all living hell but what's missionary work?
@ExTremeHYPE: www.lds.org/topics/missionary-work?lang=eng
Yes what is mission work?
When she throw her bag... Im done!!! 😢😢😢
Right, that's an expensive bag no good for nothing smh...... and the items inside that bag smh oh no I'm done!
The energy, passion, and emotion is beautiful and intense. I absolutely LOVE Haka’s!!
I cried uncontrollably. Such a beautiful welcome, such a beautiful family!
I am from West Africa but I have been so captured and captivated by this noble culture of the Maori people. I am now a huge fan
This.is.beautiful. Hakas never cease to amaze and move me every time I watch them. This one made me smile and cry at the same time. So beautiful.
That hug from dad to daughter at the end gets me every time
I came back from my last trip from south-east Asia for being away for 4 months and my brothers, uncles and my Father welcomed me back the exact same way :)
I have tears streaming down my face. Respect from Scotland.
Oh GOd bless you everyone salute and respect to all of you guys
So nice to see a culture that reveres woman...THE VESSELS OF NEW LIFE...1/2 OF THE WHOLE...MOTHERS, SISTERS, DAUGHTERS, WIVES, GRANDAGHTERS...THIS WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE IF WOMAN WERE TREATED WITH THE RESPECT THAT GOD'S CREATION DEMANDS....MY FATHER WAS MURDERED, MY MOTHER ABANDONED ME, MY FAMILY ABUSED ME...GOD'S CREATION...FIGHTING TO SURVIVE..."IT TAKES A STRONG MAN TO BE GENTLE"...LOVE...WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW...
How can someone not get emotional while watching these? Beautiful!
It is always an honor to witness a Haka. Even years later. There is nothing more passionate than this.I feel blessed.
This made me sob. God bless His missionaries everywhere and the good people of New Zealand who have lost their freedom. #GreatDad #SisterMissionariesRock
I love that they did this at the airport so much!!!
Omg the end 😭😭😭
Beautiful haka 👌👏👏👏👏👏👏
much Respect to this culture better than any I have seen in my 32years..Thumbs up
Damn them invisible onion choppers
They're a special ninja onion cutting force that's why you can't see them! LOL
😂😂😂same here
I'm actually in tears. That was beautiful 😢❤️
I'm back to watch this again for the third time and after three views I am again choked up with emotion and taken out of my worries for a minute and 43 seconds. I cannot seem to get enough of it. I cry each time, but its a strangely happy cry. Love, love, love, love, love watching these emotional haka!!
Also, I saw a Haka being done at a football game and that made me cry too! Its so beautiful and feelings that are pure and emotional and just a joy to watch - and physically, actually feel the emotion and love there!
I always love Haka, whenever I watch videos my eyes drips water.
This is a father that truly respects and loves his daughter
I get tears when she hugs her daddy at the end.
What a culture
Every time I watch a haka I get instant goosebumps, my heart opens up and tears start rolling down my face. This is soooo powerful! Thank you to all who are keepobg up this tradition and sharing it with the World 💖💞🍀
This is the only part of the “Mormon” church that respects and honors women in this way. As a ‘born’ member in 1989, I still use the word Mormon as it does not offend me and the ‘Book’ I was taught.
Blessed be all, and I support your beliefs.
Wonderful video!
you use the name "Mormon" because you are a member of a cult for that is the very definition........ good day to you sir
It’s an honour to be get such a reception.
haka are not funny and that person is being very disrespectful to the moari people and if the person who was laughing would have been facing the long end of a moari weapon and the reason why im saying this is if you taunt or say something bad about them 1st u will get the moari warning and if ur still not listening to them until u driven from their land and just like homey the clown moari people dont play that
So basically you're saying Maori are violent people who don't belong in society?
Nobody should mess with the Polynesians. The culture is very strong and mostly about family. You said it very well
I mean no disrespect I love this culture. Isn’t that a war dance though? I’m just trying to comprehend are we fighting in the airport
Kinda like the latter day saints lmfao
Sum Ting Wog
From what I’ve learned the haka has many meanings, the sole purpose is to ward off bad spirits (I believe)
I absolutely love the haka it’s so emotional to watch
Aku raruh artine tapi mbuh seneng ndelok wong2 iki😍😍
So beautiful, luv it, seeing different cultures express the love of the families through such a beautifully welcoming.. this always brings me to tears...xo
I'm in tears! Beautiful!
So beautiful I hope to Atleast 1 time in my life witness this in real life
Thank you for sharing this wonderful video. I have a daughter serving a mission.
I have watched your video a few times and it always brings tears to my eyes and feel the love that you feel for your daughter as I do for mine. God Bless you all! ♥
Well by now she should be home safe married in the Temple with 4 kids and 1 grand child on the way😁
Yes, definitely brought tears - thanks for sharing this wonderful experience!
Well that made me cry. ❤️. Welcome home from your mission!
I am not a part of this culture at all but every time I watch a haka dance being performed I cannot help but feel real emotions and tears of joy just build-up inside of me. This is all quite amazing and I truly wish that some people would just stop being so ignorant about this because I truly believe that it is disrespectful to their/this culture !!!! 🙂🙂🙂🙂
Hi people I am from the country of Brazil and I think this HAKA dance to New Zealand Culture is very beautiful, I would like to have a day of participation I am proud of you hug John Silva

Thank you so much for sharing your culture, feelings and life moments with us. ♥
Thank you so much for the details you put in the information section. ♥
Love and respect to all of you, whatever your culture or religion. ♥
I don't know their culture, I don't know everything about them, but this made me cry for no reason!! (I'm a mormon tho)
Mormons.. That's those people who allow multiple wives and discrimination of women, isn't it?
@@OriginalPuro Really?? I want to be a mormon then and have lots of wives like the Amish people😁
That’s so cool. What a greeting to have by your famille! Welcome home Bebe!
How can you not be moved by this
OMG made me cry like a baby!
That's a daddy who loves his child and heralds her to god.... what a daddy! 🙏❤
Wow, this is powerful, I can feel the energy of love with this Haka absolutely lovely......

Still makes me cry 😢
Why do I cried all the time when I see this 😢😢😢
I love haka dance 💃traditional 🌺⭐️💝
i don't know why but this excites me to the MAX 😃😃👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I just learned what this was and I respect it and find it beauitful and touching. Now... I had no idea what this was or anything about it. I wish we were taught about this because I would probably have been very confused and freaked out if I witnessed a haka not knowing what it is or anything about the culture. Researching and educating myself I am able to enjoy this and be very moved by it ❤ So beauitful!
Same with snoop when he visited NZ
I always get choked up when a hear a haka.. I wanna know more about the history and culture
I love this... the family's love is the most beautiful happiness in this life...
I feel like laughter in this case can be misconstrude, for me, I chuckled when i saw the child with her fingers in her ears. I also get a smile on my face when i see people loving eachother. Not justifying that guy in the background but. I do find it nicer to see people smiling rather than having a stern upset im in an airport face. but thats just me and your you.
I love haka!!!!
I love to see every Haka video! Especially receptions like that, it drive me to tears because it's so powerful, so intense, so profound! And that moment when her father wipes tears at the end, she dropping her bag and giving him that beautiful hug, man, it's SO BEAUTIFUL! I just admire more and more the Maori culture and wish that someday I could learn to do Haka! Cheers from the Amazon Forest, Brazil! :)
beautiful
Beautiful and amazing! These always bring a tear to my eye. There is so much emotion involved.
Fantastic welcome home.
Como que en mi otea vida fui hawaiano porque miro esta danza y me dan ganas de llorar de felicidad por el coraje de guerreros de este ritual y por cierto soy mexicano!
Ridicula
makes me cry everytime i watch people performing haka, oh God their passion for it, you can definitely feel it! it’s amazing! i wish i had that culture!
It a make up culture
But I may not be able to see you crying. You're so beautiful honestly speaking. 🙈🙈 By the way are you single ?
So powerful. Moved my heart to tears. Thank you for sharing✌️💕
Absolutely beautiful. *tears*
Beautiful I teared up
Someone gave me a greeting like that That would be awesome
First time I've seen this one from this angle. Somebody vid this one from a different perspective. It didn't show the daughter til she went to hug her pops. This is the better of the two.
Dang it that hug at the end got me, I'm a dad and hugging my sons after they get home always brings me to tears. And people need to be more respectful of others cultures just because you dont understand it doesnt mean you should laugh at them very rude show some tact.
Eu não intendo mais amo vê todos os vídeos deles 🥰♥️♥️♥️
A beautiful welcome!!
O abraço no final, disse tudo kkk simplesmente lindo, emocionante!!
