At 70 years old now and being a stay at home mom of a large family, 14 kids, and a homemaker back in the day in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. I remember being marginalized, and criticized by mainstream society for my lifestyle. So good to see a tsunami of young moms and families living this way. And now it seems more respect is given by the greater culture.
Im 65 😳. I love watching women like Lisa and Andrea being wives and moms and homemakers. It was in the early 80s when I was building a family and making the choice to be a homemaker. There were not very many women doing that! I was in my mid 20s feeling a bit alone in a world where women were empowering themselves in professional realms. I distinctly remember a morning just after my third child was born and I looked up and said, "thank you God for giving me a life as a professional woman, and thank you for this incredible job". No two days were ever the same. Always something new to introduce. It was wonderful! And sometimes maddening. Now my children 39 to 43 and they are incredible people. Proof that my job was well done. I am honored to have been given the opportunity.
I am also in my 60s, got married in 1976, we raised two sons, now we see them being parents, and our role in their lives have shifted. I enjoyed the years I had my kids at home, I love being at home, and love listening to young women who choose to be at home and a helpmate to their husbands, and I also have a husband who cleans better than me and never questioned if he could help with the kids, he has been a Godly husband, father, and now, “papa”.
Thanks for the Biblical reminder of teaching the younger. My mother was able to stay home and supper was on the table everyday me and my sister got off of the bus. There is so much comfort in the everyday routine for children and adults alike. I am now homeschooling, homesteading, and homemaking. It’s the hardest best thing I will ever do. My girls love having a home centered life. And so do I.❤
I am 60. And have been watching Lisa’s videos since she started. She gives off a feeling of being cared for and nurtured. My mom was single and just a teenager. She worked. I made my own breakfast. Dried cereal and water when I was 5 years old. We were poor.
I'm 59 soon to be 60 😳. I love watching women like the two of you. I became a single mom at 17 and finished school. I then got married and had a second child in 1984. My husband was a concrete finisher so half the year, he had no work. I had to work outside of the home to help support us. Neither of us made a lot of money. I worked my way up the corporate latter and had a career of working non-stop. I totally missed the essence of homemaking and now I am at the state of life that I so crave homemaking. You both are such an inspiration to me although I am so much older than you. I still work outside of the home, but I am now trying to make the time to learn and make a loving, calm home. I am trying to increase my skills to be able to do both until the day I can be a homemaker fulltime. God Bless You!

Obsessed with homemaking. I have always worked outside the home... which unfortunately or fortunately many women now do...but, I have switched to a lower pressure job and have more time at home. My home goal is to make it a safe place and a soft place to land!!
❤I was a stay home Mom caring for my babies, home, pet sitting, foster mother for 9.5 years before taking a job outside the house to help pay bills. I would look up to mothers of older children only to find later that I was ahead of the curve when caring for my family than them because I used money for needs rather than expensive vacations that would throw us into debt. Young mothers, please give yourself grace! Children don’t come with a manual, but there are opportunities to show them how to become good members of society, teach them the skills you were blessed to have learned, and love on yourself so they learn to do the same one day when they are in the same situations. ❤

My word for the year is "engaged." I check my phone at 7:30am, at 12:30pm, and 7:30pm. That's it. I've been WAY more engaged with my kids and my home and it shows. My phone stays in the kitchen 24/7, just like an old landline would have, and i only respond to phone calls outside of those hours. It has only been 2 weeks and I'm way more creative, productive, less stressed, and I even sleep better. I've learned that there are no real urgent matters to attend to on my phone and my phone had been adding to my anxiety by creating a false sense of urgency. So i set my own boundary and it's been a game changer.
Loved this discussion! We got married almost 40 years ago like your parents, Andrea, and lived in a tiny apartment too. Life was so simple just like you said. I had so much FUN being creative on a very small budget. We had orange countertops, and the only fabric I could find to match was orange gingham and we loved our quirky kitchen! There wasn’t any comparison, only encouraging one another in homemaking! Also, people used to love homemade items for gifts and decor. I miss those days!!
The timing of this video couldn't have been more perfect. I've been contemplating deleting Instagram and Facebook since the beginning of the New Year and pulled the trigger literally yesterday. I'm absolutely shocked at how much I've been able to accomplish today. It's amazing how even when I wasn't even on the apps I was still distracted by it. I feel like I have finally been able to be present and intentional. What a good conversation, at such a perfect time. Almost as if a nod from God.
I love to see young women embracing homemaking. I am 44, married 24 years with four kids (homeschooling). I love taking care of my family and my home. I have always enjoyed being able to set my own schedule and being creative. 💕
I feel like homemaking and this type of content goes well beyond age. I am a full time working mom and a also a homemaker. I had my children later. I am 48 with two sons -one in second and another in 6th grade. So I love content like this when I come home from work and am doing homemaking tasks.
I just wanted to say that I completely relate to your comment. I'm 46, so I guess classed as "middle aged", but I'm very much in the middle of raising young children and looking after a family home. My boys are 6 and 8 years old.
I am 65 watching both of you sweet, smart, beautiful ladies every week. I love you both! Lisa, I love how you cook so many great things! I love watching and saving your videos for the recipes. You both love your husbands and children so well. It is always an encouragement to follow you both. I worked very hard all of my life, and I was not blessed with children. I was divorced in my early 30's and was single for 20 years before God brought me my sweet husband. I then had 3 more people to care for, and I worked myself silly! It was a huge adjustment, but it brought my walk with the Lord, and my own life reflection to a whole new realm. I had to quit work to care for my aging mom at 57, and then had some health stuff, so I guess I retired. Anyway, I need the encouragement that you both bring! I could listen to you girls all day! Yes you are girls to me because I could be your mother!! I was not a "homemaker" per se, as I worked full time outside my home while raising 2 sons. Somehow I managed to cook, clean, do laundry and all the activities while working outside my home 40 hours a week. I did most of it by myself as we own a retail business so my husband was never home. I follow both of you because I admire all that you do and I truly learn so much about homemaking. My most favorite era is that of the 1930's as I see all that the women had to do with so little and they made it work. Thank you for sharing this podcast. I love that you incorporate your faith into your homemaking. And I agree 100% that social media is a double edge sword. Back in my day I would have loved to have had all the resources available to learn from social media. However, it can be a huge time waster as well. I'm 51 and love seeing you slightly younger ladies discuss home making. It's my life but I still fall prey to time wasters like social media. We homestead too so there's a lot our family of 8 has going.
I love that you are one of the older children in your family and can pass down your homemaking wisdom to your younger siblings. That will draw you closer to one another too. That is really sweet. I find this conversation is reminding me of how God instructed the older women to teach the younger women, and, in my life, I was blessed to have an older women who was a dear friend as well as a mentor. There was a book that I read on that subject, but the title escapes me. Now, my friend has passed away many years ago, and now I am in my 60s, and trying to find my way to be supportive of my grown children who have wives and children of their own, and to enjoy the families they have created. It is not as easy as I wish it was! Another thing when perhaps older children are trying to deal with parents who have health problems. I am definitely in that age and have physical needs, yet, am in the process to learn about all things sourdough! And I am overwhelmed! How we do “housekeeping “ as the seasons of life progresses, I find myself challenged by how my methods of homemaking needs to change, and for me, how I need to let go of trying to be perfect. We have 47 years of marriage and homeschooled our kids under our belts, and we also ran our own greenhouse business in the 70s and I look back now at how much we were able to accomplish, and yet I feel like I fall short. I am so enjoying this podcast!

We are so excited! I am so thankful for the Lord's many blessings in my life, but at the same time it isn't always easy. I just try to do "the next right thing" every day. Really loved this discussion. Good job ladies ❤️ I agree with the whole social media. I deleted my IG & FB about 3 years ago, & it has been life changing in all honesty. It sucked up my time, & so much of my energy. I check them a few times a year for about 20 minutes or so, & each time I feel drained & it robs me of my peace in a sense for that time being. I have started getting on fb just for checking Lisa's private group since starting the course, but keep it minimal, as FB can be a "trigger" lol. Letting go of social media isn't for everyone, but it was definitely the right the decision for this Mama. ❤🤗

She has chickens and cooks from scratch, Nourishing Traditions style, and she has some really thoughtful and important observations about modern culture and how to live naturally and simply. It would be lovely to hear you both chat about women’s health, cozy living, etc!
Navigating social media is interesting to talk about , since have taken breaks from using it before and often do it when too busy with other things in life to pay attention to it. Don't feel bad about doing that because have tasks that need undivided attention and in toggling both social media and that task wont do either of them well at all. Breaks from social media are just important because it doesn't help in getting responsibilities taken care of.
I keep things fun by lightly decorating for every small festivity. I just put up the valentines day garland. Is it early? Yes, but did my whole family enjoy the fun hearts and colorful pickme up, yes ❤ I go to the dollar tree and spend $20 on things that are ecceptable levles of tacky😂 I am first generation home maker and channels like this one inspire and encorage me so much. You fill in my hometraining gaps! Thank you Lisa!!!

Each year I add or fine tune one habit for a more peaceful home and one habit for growing my Faith. I started this with the intention of letting go and changing each of these things/additions when the new year would start… I never did!!! There was just always more room!! Now I cannot believe how many things, skills, healthy habits, spiritual growth, that this practice/mindset has allowed me. I would never have believed that I am the same person I was those few years ago, the overwhelmed person versus the more peaceful, more comfortable, confident, open person!!! I only watch CZcams if I'm folding laundry. the biggest time suck of our lives is our phone. Putting it away solves most problems i.e discontent etc. I have five children, homeschool but still don't have the same amount of time in a day to accomplish everything. It's not possible
Each generation learns about homemaking differently. I’m 63 and was raised by a mom who grew up during the Great Depression, had a 20-year nursing career before having me (an only child) at 41, and returned to work part-time when I was 10, during the recession of the 1970s. One thing I remember is the women’s magazines: Better Homes & Gardens, McCall’s, Women’s Day, etc. A lot of post-war women and their Boomer children learned a lot from magazines, and I think today’s blogs and CZcams channels serve the same purpose. Some people learned a lot from their mothers, others less (for many reasons). By the time I married and really started homemaking, I was 35 and Mom was dead, so I learned by other means. People’s situations vary greatly, so telling women that they SHOULD do things a certain way is tricky. The heart’s motivation is paramount: if I try to be a better homemaker to satisfy my ego or some ideal of what a Good Homemaker should be, I’ll either get a swelled head or live in frustration. If I’m motivated by love for my family, God, and even my neighbors, things will fall into place better and I will find peace.
Finding beauty in the mundane- yes!! It’s where I got my CZcams name. God gives so much beauty in each season. Neither one of these beautiful young homemakers would be supporting their families without all the things you mentioned. You can use social media for the good of your family. Being 68 years old and cooking heart healthy for 2 people is possible with the help of Pinterest and CZcams.
I thank God for women like you ladies! I’m 23 with two boys two and under. I didn’t grow up in a traditional home. My mom was the breadwinner and my dad was home with us. Titus two women like you both are not easy to find these days! CZcams and Pinterest are the only forms of “social media” I have because I found that I wasn’t as productive in my home and looking back I was quite lazy when I had social media. Anyways, thank you for guiding me in motherhood and helping me to become a better homemaker! P.s I use my husband’s CZcams so don’t mind the username😅

Another great Podcast! I love Andrea (and she is a fellow Michigander) too! I think homemaking is not recognized for the work we put into it by outsiders and society. I was a SAHM for 13 years and still feel it is the most important job that I was blessed to do. The only thing I wish that I had done differently during that time was pay myself a wage and into Social Security. I say this as events can/will/did happen for me later in life that have effected that merely because SS counts those as your "best working years" in calculation. I hope that makes sense. As women/mothers we should always look out to protect ourselves and children should something happen.
I only recently came across Farmhouse on Boone and through that channel, I came to this one. I love everything and have been binging all the content. I live in an urban environment, rent an apartment in NYC. I would love for there to be more content for people like me who do not have any outside space to build a garden. What can we grow in containers in our windows? I've already started my sourdough journey and will be making my own vanilla extract. I don't know what else I can do and would love to learn. If anyone has any other resources, please feel free to comment here.
That’s so wonderful that you are already making sourdough! And the vanilla will be such a treat for you! Almost anything can be grown in a window, your timing just needs to be right for each vegetable or herb. You’ll want to start seedlings in your windowsill so that when the plants mature, it will be the right timing. For example, lettuce needs cooler weather when it matures. You are in gardening zone 6 there, so you’ll want to grow veggies that do well in that zone. There are so may resources online. There are great resources like the Cornell Cooperative extension office, NYC extension office and other resources online to help you get started. Canning food is another great skill to learn. You can use veggies from the store or farmers market until yours are ready for harvest. Have such a great time in this process. It’s so rewarding! 😊
I ended up deleting Instagram because I felt the same way! Constantly comparing myself to others and not working on learning skills and improving in homemaking in the areas that I can now. It was also just a huge time waster for me so I just deleted the account to avoid the distractions.
Have either of you struggled with being able to keep up with housework? It seems like when my kids were young and at home it was a lot easier. Also, now I am dealing with some physical issues that affects what I choose to do that day, and I have come to the realization that even with a super loving, supportive and helpful husband, we need to look for someone to clean for us perhaps once a week. Have either of you even entertained the thought that you may need, or just want, to help with housework?
It's not something I need help with currently but I wouldn't hesitate to get it if I needed it and could afford it. No shade in doing your best and getting help for the rest.
And none at you either. I have learned so much just watching for a short amount of time! I have to say, I wish I would have had internet , etc. back in the dinosaur age when we were homeschooling! We always wanted about 10 kids, God said two, and we know He knows best. You have a beautiful family and a beautiful home, May God fill your home and heart with blessings!
Both of you almost romanticize homemaking, have healthy marriages, and have very "handy" husbands who can keep up with preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on your homes. But, what happens to the women who become young widows; how do they financially (other than U Tube) support themself and their family, especially as the homemaker ages? What is that widow to do when the pipes freeze and there is no water, electricity, or heat in the house? It would be helpful if you could expand your thinking and interview older homemakers who face such issues.

For a few weeks around the middle of December Instagram wouldn’t let me like or comment and all along I felt the Lord said delete it. So at the first of the year it’s gone. Yes I miss seeing the girl’s I followed much younger and a few older than me but fortunately I’ve subscribed to them in the past and see them on CZcams like today! Lost all my pictures that I had posted the last 7 years though 🫤but I’m happy it’s deleted. God bless you and Andrea.

I could listen to you girls all day! Yes you are girls to me because I could be your mother!! I was not a "homemaker" per se, as I worked full time outside my home while raising 2 sons. Somehow I managed to cook, clean, do laundry and all the activities while working outside my home 40 hours a week. I did most of it by myself as we own a retail business so my husband was never home. I follow both of you because I admire all that you do and I truly learn so much about homemaking. My most favorite era is that of the 1930's as I see all that the women had to do with so little and they made it work. Thank you for sharing this podcast. I love that you incorporate your faith into your homemaking. And I agree 100% that social media is a double edge sword. Back in my day I would have loved to have had all the resources available to learn from social media. However, it can be a huge time waster as well. I'm 51 and love seeing you slightly younger ladies discuss home making. It's my life but I still fall prey to time wasters like social media. We homestead too so there's a lot our family of 8 has going.

I love that you are one of the older children in your family and can pass down your homemaking wisdom to your younger siblings. That will draw you closer to one another too. That is really sweet. Now that I am 40, I find a lot of younger wives and mothers asking me for advice as well. It is a nice place to be at. . .one of those "wise ladies" of sorts. I enjoyed this discussion!!
I find this conversation is reminding me of how God instructed the older women to teach the younger women, and, in my life, I was blessed to have an older women who was a dear friend as well as a mentor. There was a book that I read on that subject, but the title escapes me. Now, my friend has passed away many years ago, and now I am in my 60s, and trying to find my way to be supportive of my grown children who have wives and children of their own, and to enjoy the families they have created. It is not as easy as I wish it was! Another thing when perhaps older children are trying to deal with parents who have health problems. I am definitely in that age and have physical needs, yet, am in the process to learn about all things sourdough! And I am overwhelmed! How we do “housekeeping “ as the seasons of life progresses, I find myself challenged by how my methods of homemaking needs to change, and for me, how I need to let go of trying to be perfect. We have 47 years of marriage and homeschooled our kids under our belts, and we also ran our own greenhouse business in the 70s and I look back now at how much we were able to accomplish, and yet I feel like I fall short.

Thank you so much for this beautiful podcast. It is so encouraging for me to listen to those ahead of me both in life and in homemaking. I am 19, married, and expecting our son this summer. We are so excited! I am so thankful for the Lord's many blessings in my life, but at the same time it isn't always easy. I just try to do "the next right thing" every day. This interview was especially encouraging as I get back into more homemaking tasks that were especially hard during my first trimester. ❤️

Really loved this discussion. Good job ladies ❤️ I agree with the whole social media. I deleted my IG & FB about 3 years ago, & it has been life changing in all honesty. It sucked up my time, & so much of my energy. I check them a few times a year for about 20 minutes or so, & each time I feel drained & it robs me of my peace in a sense for that time being. I have started getting on fb just for checking Lisa's private group since starting the course, but keep it minimal, as FB can be a "trigger" lol.
Letting go of social media isn't for everyone, but it was definitely the right the decision for this Mama. ❤🤗

She’s a wonderful Christian homemaker, and doula, and proponent of simple living. She has chickens and cooks from scratch, Nourishing Traditions style, and she has some really thoughtful and important observations about modern culture and how to live naturally and simply. It would be lovely to hear you both chat about women’s health, cozy living, etc!
Inspirational info, even for an oldie like me! My gen had magazines like Family Circle, Better Homes & Garden to dream by.
Navigating social media is interesting to talk about , since have taken breaks from using it before and often do it when too busy with other things in life to pay attention to it. Don't feel bad about doing that because have tasks that need undivided attention and in toggling both social media and that task wont do either of them well at all. Breaks from social media are just important because it doesn't help in getting responsibilities taken care of.

Thank you ladies !!!! I love this point about one thing at a time ❤. I have made that my focus in the last few years. Each year I add or fine tune one habit for a more peaceful home and one habit for growing my Faith. I started this with the intention of letting go and changing each of these things/additions when the new year would start… I never did!!! There was just always more room!! Now I cannot believe how many things, skills, healthy habits, spiritual growth, that this practice/mindset has allowed me. I would never have believed that I am the same person I was those few years ago, the overwhelmed person versus the more peaceful, more comfortable, confident, open person!!! I only watch CZcams if I'm folding laundry. the biggest time suck of our lives is our phone. Putting it away solves most problems i.e discontent etc. I have five children, homeschool but still don't have the same amount of time in a day to accomplish everything. It's not possible

Each generation learns about homemaking differently. I’m 63 and was raised by a mom who grew up during the Great Depression, had a 20-year nursing career before having me (an only child) at 41, and returned to work part-time when I was 10, during the recession of the 1970s. One thing I remember is the women’s magazines: Better Homes & Gardens, McCall’s, Women’s Day, etc. A lot of post-war women and their Boomer children learned a lot from magazines, and I think today’s blogs and CZcams channels serve the same purpose. Some people learned a lot from their mothers, others less (for many reasons). By the time I married and really started homemaking, I was 35 and Mom was dead, so I learned by other means. People’s situations vary greatly, so telling women that they SHOULD do things a certain way is tricky. The heart’s motivation is paramount: if I try to be a better homemaker to satisfy my ego or some ideal of what a Good Homemaker should be, I’ll either get a swelled head or live in frustration. If I’m motivated by love for my family, God, and even my neighbors, things will fall into place better and I will find peace.
Finding beauty in the mundane- yes!! It’s where I got my CZcams name. God gives so much beauty in each season.

Social media, internet and cell phones were the worst thing that happened to this world. Let's go back to simpler times and enjoy our family and each other.
Neither one of these beautiful young homemakers would be supporting their families without all the things you mentioned. You can use social media for the good of your family. Being 68 years old and cooking heart healthy for 2 people is possible with the help of Pinterest and CZcams.
I thank God for women like you ladies! I’m 23 with two boys two and under. I didn’t grow up in a traditional home. My mom was the breadwinner and my dad was home with us. Titus two women like you both are not easy to find these days! CZcams and Pinterest are the only forms of “social media” I have because I found that I wasn’t as productive in my home and looking back I was quite lazy when I had social media. Anyways, thank you for guiding me in motherhood and helping me to become a better homemaker!
P.s I use my husband’s CZcams so don’t mind the username😅

Another great Podcast! I love Andrea (and she is a fellow Michigander) too! I think homemaking is not recognized for the work we put into it by outsiders and society. I was a SAHM for 13 years and still feel it is the most important job that I was blessed to do. The only thing I wish that I had done differently during that time was pay myself a wage and into Social Security. I say this as events can/will/did happen for me later in life that have effected that merely because SS counts those as your "best working years" in calculation. I hope that makes sense. As women/mothers we should always look out to protect ourselves and children should something happen.

I only recently came across Farmhouse on Boone and through that channel, I came to this one. I love everything and have been binging all the content. I live in an urban environment, rent an apartment in NYC. I would love for there to be more content for people like me who do not have any outside space to build a garden. What can we grow in containers in our windows? I've already started my sourdough journey and will be making my own vanilla extract. I don't know what else I can do and would love to learn. If anyone has any other resources, please feel free to comment here.
That’s so wonderful that you are already making sourdough! And the vanilla will be such a treat for you! Almost anything can be grown in a window, your timing just needs to be right for each vegetable or herb. You’ll want to start seedlings in your windowsill so that when the plants mature, it will be the right timing. For example, lettuce needs cooler weather when it matures. You are in gardening zone 6 there, so you’ll want to grow veggies that do well in that zone. There are so may resources online. There are great resources like the Cornell Cooperative extension office, NYC extension office and other resources online to help you get started. Canning food is another great skill to learn. You can use veggies from the store or farmers market until yours are ready for harvest. Have such a great time in this process. It’s so rewarding! 😊

I ended up deleting Instagram because I felt the same way! Constantly comparing myself to others and not working on learning skills and improving in homemaking in the areas that I can now. It was also just a huge time waster for me so I just deleted the account to avoid the distractions.

Have either of you struggled with being able to keep up with housework? It seems like when my kids were young and at home it was a lot easier. Also, now I am dealing with some physical issues that affects what I choose to do that day, and I have come to the realization that even with a super loving, supportive and helpful husband, we need to look for someone to clean for us perhaps once a week. Have either of you even entertained the thought that you may need, or just want, to help with housework?
It's not something I need help with currently but I wouldn't hesitate to get it if I needed it and could afford it. No shade in doing your best and getting help for the rest.
And none at you either. I have learned so much just watching for a short amount of time! I have to say, I wish I would have had internet , etc. back in the dinosaur age when we were homeschooling! We always wanted about 10 kids, God said two, and we know He knows best. You have a beautiful family and a beautiful home, May God fill your home and heart with blessings!
Both of you almost romanticize homemaking, have healthy marriages, and have very "handy" husbands who can keep up with preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on your homes. But, what happens to the women who become young widows; how do they financially (other than U Tube) support themself and their family, especially as the homemaker ages? What is that widow to do when the pipes freeze and there is no water, electricity, or heat in the house? It would be helpful if you could expand your thinking and interview older homemakers who face such issues.

For a few weeks around the middle of December Instagram wouldn’t let me like or comment and all along I felt the Lord said delete it. So at the first of the year it’s gone. Yes I miss seeing the girl’s I followed much younger and a few older than me but fortunately I’ve subscribed to them in the past and see them on CZcams like today! Lost all my pictures that I had posted the last 7 years though 🫤but I’m happy it’s deleted. God bless you and Andrea.
I had a similar experience deleting Facebook years ago. Sometimes I miss parts of it but God hasn't let me down. He knew exactly what was right for me! 😊❤
