Hello Michael, thank you for this fine video. You certainly do a great job of filming. The Canadian winter can be quite beautiful. Esme is a very good traveling companion. You take care out there and be safe. 🤗
Thanks Ronald - glad you enjoyed the video. Winter is my favourite season ❄️
What a nice time out there. It's so cool how you turn the outdoors into a personal living space. I was sorry to see how the Argo under performed. Thanks for sharing this experience.
Thanks Stephen - I enjoy the outdoors no matter the weather! The tracks will work out in the end - just some teething troubles!
A fine production! I look forward to watching more of these videos and really like the outdoor equipment reviews incorporated into the experience.
Thanks Dave! 👍
Oh, also I now have the Teton XXL setup with the tent. Keep up the good work. Enjoy the winter camping and the catch and cook.
The TETON is a firm favourite - simple, flexible and good for all seasons!
Well, at least coffee, tuna and beer were good..thx for sharing the video and can't wait for the next one 😇😇
Hahaha - yup - it was an awesome trip - very much enjoyed this one!
Very interesting video Michael. Quite a learning experience trying out the tracks. Looks like Esme enjoyed the outing too! Keep up the good work.
Thanks David - Yes it was - This is why I'm always sceptical on manufacturers claims and turn to CZcams to learn the truth if the matter. I couldn't find much info on the 18" plastic super tracks in powered snow and now we know. They work but you are not going too far with them in those conditions.
I enjoyed watching this video very much. You have a great traveling companion as well!
Thanks Douglas! 👍
Very nice camping setup ! And Esmie ever great !!!
Thanks my friend! 🐶
Great video, Michael. Lovely weather for a winter outdoor camping trip. Your dog is so sweet and gentle, and she seems to love spending time with you on those trips. I also just wanted to mention that it is important to keep an eye on where your dog is at all times when they are close to moving vehicles. Accidents have happened. And it is not so easy for them to move out of the way in deep snow. Please don't take it as critisism, it is just a friendly reminder. Take care all and have a nice weekend!
Thanks Annie - I'm always careful around Esme and the vehicles. We've been camping together like this for 4 years and we both understand the importance of keeping an eye on each other - thanks for the kind comments and welcome advise! 🐶
Great to see another of your videos. Thanks!
Thanks Cosmin Pavel
Even after living in West Berlin it was not until I moved to Bulgaria that I learnt to appreciate the "different" types of snow that exist, how they affect your life and how to deal with them (especially where livestock are concerned), glad the paw wax is working out for Esme though would have loved to have seen a video of her in her boots! Thanks for another enjoyable trip.
Hi Trev - I know right! Until you experience it you would never know. Yup the paw wax is working out really well and she doesn't mind it a bit! The boots went back to amazon - she just marched around in circles with them on - I think it was stressful for her 🐶
Nice camp out. Esme looks really good as a model. Glad it turned out OK. Take care, Al
Thanks Pumpkin Village Maple! 👍
Great video, Michael. Sorry to hear about the tracks and performance on that snow. That was a great little setup using the Argo + tarps. Esme looked like she settled in nicely. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Neil - It will all come good - just teething problems! Esme is happy anywhere she can climb on a sleeping bag - lol 🐶
The poncho shelter matches your Bundeswehr gloves! Well-done, Soldier. 😁
I know - I'm starting to lose equipments as it all blends together! 😄
I would love to start winter camping, I've never been before . I've been ice fishing ,but I've just never been winter camping. Looks like alot of fun. Cool beans.
You should! Start close to your home or even camp in the back yard to test things out! Its a very cool experience! 👍
Thanks for the video, nicely done.
Cheers William! 🍻
I like how you set up like that. Bought an ice shelter for my tent and cot but I may just set up like that now with my tarp off my SUV on my campout on the 23 this month. Cool.
Ive always thought about an ice fishing shelter or hunting blind for a quick tent - that's a good idea! Tarps are super easy too and gives you lots of great views!
Great video. I love all your reviews. I've been curious about the Black Rifle Coffee. I'll have to try it now.
Hi Sally - I really enjoy it! ☕️
I must say, you put on one hell of a video.well done.
Thanks Peter!
The fire starters look great and helpful.
Yea - like little fireworks!
Good job! Like that you take care of your puppy making puppy comfortable in the cold weather. I tossed around the Argo thing around for many years. They are just so expensive as snowmobiles and toys like that. It’s hard for me to get along on foot especially on uneven ground these days. I guess I’ll just watch you and stick to my off road camper and vehicle for my camping. I’ll have to put up with other Camper’s as well! Keep the videos coming...
Hi Douglas - Esme always comes first. Once she's got a comfortable spot to watch me work 🐶 she's happy - lol. I'd love to get an off-road camper one day - Especially for the summer during the bug season. Best wishes Michael & Esme
Looks like a really fun time. Sorry about the Argo. Hope you find a solution. Thank you for the wonderful video Michael and Esme.
Thanks John - just teething problems is all 😉
Hello Michael and Esme, great vidéo and bon appétit!
Merci beaucoup!
Along time ago my family and I were camping in Northern Maine, I had to get up to take care of business at 2 in the morning , the stars were amazing, went back to the tent woke up my son and wife just to see them. Time to go back. Thank you for a great video. Go back to the vendor and see what they can do for you as far as the tracks go. I would think that a small paddle would make a huge difference if there is room on the top of the track. Thank you again.
Hi Bob - hahah, Ive done the same thing many nights - woken up and headed outside to find the night sky just ablaze with stars and sometimes the norther lights! Memories I will never forget 😊 I'll be doing more testing before I decide if the tracks are a problem. I'm thinking the conditions might have been the issue on this trip and ANY tracks would have had a tough time.
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Stars like you described I once saw in Panama, in 1990. I was getting my open water scuba qualification off Isla Mame, on the Alantic side of the Isthmus. I got out of my hammock in the bohio (thatched pavilion), went out and looked up and could hardly believe it. Palm trees were swaying in the breeze, and the sky and stars appeared magnified.
I don't do any camping of any type but enjoy your vids. Love your dog also👍
Thank you for the kind comment! Best wishes Michael & Esme 🐶
Hey, don't get down about the Argo. Looks like it was a beautiful outing. Not all rides you take will be the same. My 1998 Argo 6x6 Bigfoot handles differently on my rocky logging roads throughout the seasons. Each season it handles a bit differently, sometimes smooth, sometimes slow and clunky, sometimes a speed demon, but regardless it is fun every time. You just find different things to enjoy in various conditions. You will figure it out! You are making great videos. Keep after it, and enjoy!
Thanks Himesjb - I'm sure I'll figure it out! It did its job - just now as well as I'd hoped!
Well said....
Good job on the setup
Thanks Lee 👍
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors I voted for the tarp shelter to begin with 😀 keep the vids coming
Excellent quality video as always,,,,The Argo reminds me of a young buck Sargeant who thought his 2 1/2 ton truck could go anywhere in low gear 4 wheel drive. I hear it was a long cold walk back to the motor pool to get a wrecker and a driver to get him out of a sunken snow bank...I hear it also cost him a bottle of Bourbon to keep the incident under wraps. I hear it was a lesson well learned,,I also heard he got called into the Sargent Majors quarters,,,and after a long tail to the SM, the SM turned and said to him ,"so what really happened?"....After a very short story, the SM belly laughed and said,"you earned your stripes, now get out of here". I guess what I am trying to say is what ever you are told a vehicle can do, believe 1/2 of the story.....Thanks again for sharing,,,,happy trails....
Hahaha - that's a great story! It's very true also. I like to find the limits of my machines and then stay below them 😉
Hey Michael,
I think the Argo managed to do a pretty good job considering the weather conditions - it's normal to have trouble navigating through snow once the weather starts to warm up.
Even when I ride my ATV on public trails that have been resurfaced, if the temperature gets to -5 Celsius or higher - it generally becomes quite difficult.
The best time is when it's -10 Celsius or lower - I'm pretty sure the Argo will have no problems navigating in those conditions. I've seen guys with 6x6 and 8x8 Argos trapping and ice fishing here in Quebec without too much hassle.
For sure you have to winch yourself out from time to time or reverse and then try again like you did - but you can use the same machine during the whole year and carry more gear!
A snowmobile is only useful in winter and doesn't have a lot of useful space.
Hi Stanley QC - I think you are right - its like most things you depend on what the weather does - and snow can change dramatically with temperature. I'm sure Ill be sailing along before the snow melts! 👍
but snowmobile turns into jets ski in the summer lol
Great camp along.
Thanks!👍
Awesome video
Thanks! 👍
Nice to see an honest appraisal, you appear to like Flectarn!
Thanks Stuart! And yes I am 😄
Great video!! I think the type of track you have is more for fresh snow and ice, you might want wider one for crusty one. We are also having a break of those -40 for a change we are in the positise everything is melting makes riding interesting. I bet those track are going to work great once the snow start melting a bit you will float on top. Thanks for sharing!!!
I think it was a "snow condition" issue too - Ive since been out again and they worked much better with just a slight crust on the snow. I can feel spring is on the way too! The tracks will be awesome in the snow melt conditions - always a tough time with an UTV but with the Argo I know it will shine in those conditions!
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Yeah I saw that today I was following my old Argo back home and the guy was just rolling through all the mud put and crusty snow. Meanwhile I was going 10 with the quad.
Nice!
Good Morning Michael...What a nice way to watch another adventure video from you on a Friday morning :-) Shame about the new Tracks not working that great on more hilly conditions mate :-( Hope your good otherwise and have a good weekend Michael :-)
Hi Russ - Glad you liked the video :) I think its just early problems that will get resolved!
It is dragging in the middle, thus making it high center. a small v plow in the center would force the center snow under the tracks.
I might try that - a few people made the same comment!
Another great overnighter Michael, I sure enjoyed it sitting here in my warm house. Hope you can figure out what might make those tracks work better for you. Esme is such a love.
Hi Jo - We will figure it out - just needs some more testing and some tweaking 😉
Wow. Ur really lucky to get an opportunity to camp at such places. Don't think I will ever have a chance. .that's y I like ur vids.
Thanks Sanket! - I am a lucky guy! 👍
Bonjour Michael, merci pour cette très belle vidéo, bisous à Esme.
Hi Bruno - Et merci d'avoir regardé et commenté! Nous l'apprécions beaucoup tous les deux! Cordialement Michael & Esme
Another great video, Michael. Camping with a couple friends in GA next week. No snow, lowest nighttime temperature will be 9 Celsius. No hot tent, but we may see alligators during the afternoons.
Hi Robert - That sounds awesome! 9c for night time sounds very comfortable 😄 - Hahaha not sure about the alligators though. I think Esme would freak out if she saw one!
I bet she would. My friend’s dog will be with us, but will be on a leash if we’re in gator territory.
Greetings. The video was much anticipated and did not disappoint even though the tracks may have! My eyes were stinging when you were cooking your eggs. My eyes literally watered! I guess I have been there too many times. Even snowmobiled get stuck and loose traction in certain circumstances. The tracks got you and Esme out and back. I think you would have camped much closer to the truck with no tracks! Great outing, thanks for the adventure! Cheers.
Hi W niner - With no tracks I couldn't have made any progress that day into the bush - But once that layer froze over - tires would have got me out if I ran in the ruts perhaps. Hahaha camp smoke - we have all had those annoying times when it chases you around the camp fire 😄
Thats interesting to see that the argo doesn't like to uphills I thought for with tracks that it would be amazing.
Sadly - I bought the wrong tracks based on the dealers recommendation - Should have gone with the rubber tracks 👍
nice wheels, working fine
Yup - pushing through the snow! 🌨
Hey Micheal, hope you get this. Have you looked into the new elevated tread tracks? They are suppose to be amazing. You can find it here on youtube.... elevated tread tracks. Here's a tip for you, buy one those plastic egg containers keep you eggs in it and when you go to bed put it in you sleeping bag, eggs won't freeze or break.
Hi BushratJohn - I looked at some other brands but settled on the Argo ones to keep good with the warranty. I know there are better tracks out there for sure. Great tip about the eggs! Hahaha nothing like a frozen breakfast! 😉
I’m blaming the snow too ole buddy....kidding aside, I hate that it didn’t meet expectations. Tough environment.
Yea - it will all shake out soon 😄 teething troubles!
Love this one I’ve watched it twice and showed my husband as he’s from Alberta to. When you say this is a nice spot I kinda asked Dave why that’s a nice spot, he said well for Alberta your not going to find much else but flat land and patchy spots of forest and some water areas. 🤣. He’s not to keen about me sleeping in just a sleeping bag alone in the forest, we have no dog and it is unlikely that we get another dog after having two already. Just too hart breaking. Love your videos. Well done!
Well - Tell Dave he's not wrong 😄 - I like Northern Alberta as its in the Boreal forest but the south is a lot of farms. BC is beautiful and Ontario is full of lakes - But I'll take Alberta over many other places I've lived! 🇨🇦 Why would Dave be with you in the forest?! 2 sleeping bags are bette than one! 😉
Well it’s nice to know there are some good spots in Alberta. Dave in the forest is tough as he works a lot and is to stressed out to work at setting up camp and loading and unloading the quads on the trailer. He’ll only go out if it’s a two nighter at least. So those are far and few between. Waiting till retirement, I guess. Thanks for your input. We love your videos! Great stuff! Thank you
Anytime! Best wishes!
It looks like your tracks (in that particular type of snow) are creating a high centering issue as it goes. Maybe a tiny snow plow blade (as wide as the space between the tracks) could be tried? It would direct snow from the center of the vehicle to be fed to the tracks. You could make a prototype from plywood cheaply. If the idea worked, have a light aluminum one fabbed up.
Thanks Flysubcompact - I think you are right - I came to the same conclusion. I also need to make some grouser(s) to help create traction for the tracks. Just got to wait for some snow to test out the mods 😁 🌨
Hi.Smoked fish is ready to eat you only have to warm it if you prefer.Nice camp.
Yup - I just seared it and warmed it up a bit 😄. It was delightful!
I thought only British rail used the "wrong type of snow" :-) We used to tie a tank sheet to the sides of our Scimitars/Spartans as a shelter quite often but we overlapped the engine decks to make use of the hot air and to dry our kit. Looking forward to your next adventure.
I know right! 😄 Great idea - You tankies are smart cookies when it comes to making life livable in the outdoors!
Sugar snow and no paddles. Went about like you would expect. That type of snow depends on track speed and paddle depth to generate basicly thrust like a water jet.....you either need a HUGE amount of surface area ( 20 to 36 inches wide tracks like a trail grooming snow cat) or deep paddles and track speed to throw at at ....once your tracks dropped into your old trail and the belly really started to drag ...you were not moving enough snow.
Totally agree knowing what I know now. Argo gave me very bad advice 😞
Michael, was going threw some of your passed videos and the review of the Fjallraven pants got me interested in the bottom pants leg hooks. Found them on amazon if you sew. They are the same as the hooks for the waist. Easy for me as I work canvas on my boat. Great idea I didn’t know about, so Thanks.
Thats sounds great - please post the link! Thanks for the heads up! 👍
Michael, Many choices. Amazon Search for Stainless Steel Hook Closures for Clothing.www.amazon.com/Feeko-Perfect-Fasteners-Whatever-Closures/dp/B07PT4BXB3/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=stainless+steel+hook+closures+for+clothing&qid=1553808916&s=gateway&sr=8-4I also posted this in the comments of your one year review of the Fjallraven Pants. Best to you and Esme. Cheers.
Well done and again, your videos make one feel like they are there! I have been watching all of your shared info on the argo...they made me wonder if I should sell the P500 and get one! I bought tracks for the P500 and was looking forward to your review of the Argo on tracks. I suspect that the snow type won’t change things all that much. I’m thinking that the one piece track from front to back handles snow differently than four tracks on the P500. I cant seem to get it stuck...yet! I put Kimpex WSS4 tracks on...expensive! It floats well in deep snow of all types but I also have some disappointments. The P500 is constantly reving very high and working hard to power the tracks. I think we are both looking for that one vehicle perfect in all conditions. Keep the “education” coming! Thank you.
Hi Norm - Thats so cool you bought tracks for the P500 - I often wondered how that would run. I thought the engine was a little small to push a set of 4 tracks. I thought of two skis up front and 2 tracks on the back might be better as less effort for the P500. There is defiantly not one perfect machine. I will be sharing more track related videos after this weekend as I'm heading out once more! Take care buddy! 🍻
Love your videos. Alberta wilderness is the best
Yup - I'm a lucky guy to live in Canada! 🇨🇦
Excellent!
Thanks my friend - Toivottavasti odotat keväällä!
Great videos Micheal- “sugar” snow is ugliness. As you discovered once spring snow gets some crust you will be able to travel ok. A Ski-doo Tundra is ideal for your winter camping. My 2008 300 has 16x136” track, narrow ski stance, wide skiis, reverse, tow hitch. Weighs about 400lbs? Does maybe 50mph. Mighty 35hp Rotax 2cycle. Will pull 5 medium size kids in the sled and 2 on the machine with me up the tobogganing hill out back. It’s about 10ft long. Will quickly carry you and the supervisor dog and pull your sled far away from help in no time 🤣
Hi Laurie - That sounds like just the machine Ill be looking for in the coming years!!! Sounds awesome!
You can try mine out before you shop...except I’m stranded by sunshine in the Sonoran desert at the moment 😎. He’s a 2008. They are more complex, capable, and co$t more now. 4 cycle power and somewhat heavier.
As long as you can wait 2.5 years - I swap my machines on a 3 year cycle!
Great video, I thought the Argo would have worked better for ya, I've seen videos of guys in Quebec blasting through the snow maybe the 8 wheeler with a bigger foot print is the answer, anyways it seemed to take yas quite the distance all the same and looked like a great time. Stay safe
Have no issues with my 6x6 with tracks
Ive watched the same videos too - I think the 8x8 have an advantage and they run the rubber tracks - not sure if rubber would have made a difference in those conditions. I think it was just freaky snow conditions.
Hi BIG_BOONES TY Channel - I watched a couple of your videos - looks like you are running the narrow plastic tracks. I have no issue on hard pack either - or lake snow. I think it was just that fine powder snow that day.
Same feels like the Argo is in water some times there so much snow this year Don’t think the rubber tracks would be any better I know the supper tracks are no good on my 8x8 get farther with the small plastic tracks on my 6x6 and there faster than the 8x8 by 20 kilometres an hour
Had no issues last year to much snow where I live in Canada this year been crazy
Awesome video love my Argo like to get the equipment to film like this one day just started my channel and my Argo 6x6 is a big part of it I used to run the supper tracks but now use the normal smaller ones but I hear you Argo is a great machine for everything but great at one thing
Good luck on the channel - I subscribed! I bought the DJI Osmo Pocket for a lot of my filming - works great and pretty cheap for 4K 60 fps. You can now also plug a external mic into it with an adaptor!
Thanks so much you know when you start off every sub counts and for the info on the camera I do need an external mic audio from the iPhone no good and a tri pod how did you get such steady video from inside the Argo thinking of getting a gimbal
Haha nice. TRACKS!!
Yup - got the tracks!
You need to check out the SNOW DOG MACHINE, it might be what you are looking for. Once again great video. I really like the drone shots.
Hi PhantomofthePrairie - I have looked at the Snow Dog Machines but they are $5000 CAD for the standard model. I can buy a pretty good used snowmobile for that money. If they sold them for around $2500 CAD I would have been interested. Thanks for the heads up anyways!! 👍
Looked to me like you were bottoming out when you lost traction with those tracks. That would also explain why it did better in the fresh snow, you didn't have to dig as deep to get traction. The next morning the snow should've been a bit harder thus providing your better ride on the way out since the tracks would get more bite. But for deep snow, I'd find a way to keep the snow from getting directly under the hull(?), therefore allowing the tracks to engage the terrain. Definitely enjoyed the video, wish I could've seen those stars with you.
Hi David - I really think it was just the snow conditions on that day - Ive been out since with crustier snow and they worked much better. The stars are amazing - I'm going to try and get some beer footage but I need a new camera 😄 #morecameragear - lol
You need the Argo rubber tracks (basically snowmachine tracks). A night and day difference.
I think that would make a big difference, however, the Cam Am Defender I have now with tracks is vastly improved even over the Argo with rubber tracks. 👍
Fantastic
Thanks Simone!
its an old vid but for around $300 you could fab a set of 15" wide rubber track using old sled tracks. Much better grip. The lions share of the cost would be the hinge kits that run about $100 a set. I've got a set of the 18" rubber tracks and I've found they allow my 6x to float on just about any type of snow.
Indeed you are right - The plastic tracks suck and rubber are much better 👍 Argo Rubber tracks are like $5000 a set 😐 Just obscene for that they are.
Another great video Michael, all the staff are saying lets close for a weekend and head up north for a night or two. So glad you liked the coffee, we drink way to much of it here at the shop, oh wait that's not possible!! Keep those video's coming and say hi to Esme.
Hey guys - thanks again for the fire lighters and the coffee!! Damn that coffee is nice ☕😄. You should totally get out - the weather is pretty nice for March. Best wishes Michael & Esme 🐶
I've yet to find a vehicle that is great everywhere and for everything, that machine for what you do is the best your going to do I think, when you can drive across stream or lake and swamp you are pretty much doing most of the terrain in the woods,2,or 3 feet of snow is tough on everything but a specialty vehicle like snow mobile, so be happy I think it's awesome,
Yup - I think you are right. The Argo is a "can do it all" but no the best solution for each environment. There is no beating a snow machine for snow - there is nothing like it!
One thing about this that I had seen others do when stuck out in the open is use a fluke type anchor for marine to creat a anchor point
Yea - that's a good idea. Lucky in the Boreal forest you are never too far from a tree 😉
Hey Micheal, hope you’re well.
It looks to be more of a clearance issue with the Argo mate, wonder if a “boat prow” attachment would make a difference, pushing the snow from the front of the vehicle UNDER the tracks where they can get up on top of it and not have to wade through it. A small “v” shaped plough attachment might just help. Other than that maybe a more aggressive grouser/ice cleat could help but they would be very vulnerable on the really hard packed snow/ice.
Other than the obvious irritation the trip looked to be enjoyable and the weather very favourable for the time of year. The decision to nichts the hot tent was a sound choice. If it gets cooler in the tarp shelter, you can always add a layer but when you’re too warm, once you’re down to your under layer you’re buggered and then in the heart of the night when the stove has cooled and the outside temperature is at its lowest you wake up freezing your balls off!! Not ideal!
A sound use of intellect there fella. Old Eric “the Viking” Normark was out under the stars in Northern Sweden last week in -20c so you’re in good company mate.
Hi Nick - I thought the same thing with a small plough to move the snow just forward of the hull BUT it would be problematic when the snow froze. I'm still considering it however and will be doing some testing but it will be a specific snow condition use item. It was the right choice to camp under the stars - it was a really relaxing night and we both had a great time 🐶 - I checked out Erik's channel and subbed - thanks for the heads up!
At least the air conditioner was working
LOL 😄
Agreed, Michael... soft powder was just chewed through by the tracks, digging down, and the center tub left floating on top... not enough weight for the tracks to work correctly. Different snow, lack of the high (center) spot... should be good to go.
Ahem... with all this dry soup stuff I see you eating... claiming the salmon was the best, isn't really saying much, my friend. LOL... yeah, I'm gonna bust yer chops a bit there.
Esme was sure, that Stick Monster was gonna get her. LOL... funny watching her scramble away from it.
No chatter about the rack you're making? Looks good thus far, is it completed?
Hi RatdogDRB - I think you got the track problem exactly. That snow was just too powdery for any track system. Hahaha - I'm trying to do better cooking content - lol 😄 Esme was very funny when she saw the shelter fall - she freaks out when things move on their own! The rack is not complete yet - this was just a test to see how things worked so far. I have to remove it and do some more welding and move a few things. I should have some updates next week. 👍
Hi Michael, I was very surprised, in the negative way, how those tracks were performing. Ok, on the way back it was going better, but they not reliable. If you on a 3 day's trip and the snow conditions are changing, you can get in trouble more then you think. For me that's not acceptable. The Argo it self is not a cheap ATV also, and then this? Its stays a fat minus point for me. A planning is to be changed I always say, but this one was a bit fast I think. It was still minus 15 in the night and then the hot tent was ok. Now your "eggs" were frozen (smile) The weather was very good, not much wind or snow, great. Take care to you and Asmee, Regards, Tony.
Hi Tony - Yes I was a little disappointed but I'm rising to the challenge of fixing it 😄 The hot tent would have been fine for the -15c but I enjoyed just looking up at the stars 🌌 and the open air all the same 😉
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Hi Michael, Yes to looking at the stars is something many people will never see like this, its amazing. When you can fix the problems with the tracks, they should pay all back for the tracks. You doing then their job, they want to sell it, do your homework then. Even when you had these for free, they on the wrong way. Those guy's are not out there in the snow with minus 25C. If I get something for free to test it and it was not working were they sell it for, I just tell the truth, that's it. Sorry I get pissed off by doing business like this. Sad enough its happening all the time with all kind of business from small till very big and dangerous. Take care and start to get them pissed off, more fun then solve the problem (smile)
Hahaha - I like your approach! 😄
frozen eggs and hot sauce, well there goes breakky. good thing it turned out for you
Any port in a storm - lol
actually the rubber tracks , quebec channel tracks and escargo/adair tracks all working well in deep snow. i know plastic tracks are kind of toy play in this kind of situation, maybe you should try something more expensive. I know, i broke my bank for these plastic trash too. Now i am looking at the rubber tracks too
I didn't get very good advice from the dealer and my research didn't show any major differences between the plastic 18" super tracks and the rubber ones. In reality and looking at it more objectively they would never have worked as they don't have any grousers for traction, like the rubber ones do. I should have thought of them more like a snowmobile track and the lugs being an important part of snow performance!! Ohh well 😄
Knowing what you know now about tracks which ones would you buy for your six wheel argo if you could do it again? My friend just ordered a six wheeler but hasn't got the tracks yet. I thought the Escargo with the winter kit looked really capable.
Hi Curtis, number one NOT the plastic tracks - this was a bad choice from bad advice from the dealer. I tried to buy the Escargot tracks but I got no response from the Canadian seller. The Argo rubber tracks would be my next choice 👍
Argos high center with the tracks we have too...would like to think there is a different type a track. Have not found a better track yet
Hi Stan, I should have bought the rubber Argo tracks 😣
Nice to see the tracks on. Sorry the results were mixed. Was wondering if you could shift over half a lane when going back over your tracks or another's tracks. Seems like you'd have less chance of topping out but I'm far from an authority. It's funny but I find myself unconsciously tipping the cell phone to help you pour the water into your coffee funnel. As if that's going to work! I figured you would have some pretty good coals left in the morning. That was a good fire. Good trip all around, I enjoyed it.
Hi David - I did find that overlapping the old tracks did help - it made the clearance underneath much better. I chuckled thinking of you tipping your phone for the coffee pour! 😄 Yup - that fire burned way longer than I expected - lots left for the morning 👍
I wouldn't get too disappointed just yet. it might take a bit of practice to get used to driving with them. this was a bad winter anyway.
Thats exactly me thoughts too - One swallow doesn't make a summer 😉
Great video, I guess you have to consider without the tracks you’d be walking.
Indeed - that would be the alternative! and pulling a sled. I'll take the tracks thanks! 😄
Hi there great videos have to say years ago my bud had a Argo with 4 wheels a side with rubber tracks went anywhere. I'm not sold on plastic tracks with tiny cleats. From what I see in your vid not impressive. I have a skandic with the 600 two stroke in it love it. Goes anywhere. Deep snow no problem and I'm talking 6 feet. I wish you best of luck. Maybe a larger cleat would help. As it looks like not enough grabbing. Think snowmachine mountain sled tracks.
Yup - My buddy keeps telling me to get a trapper sled or a mountain sled as they will go in any snow conditions. If you don't try you don't learn! 👍
The Emporium Outdoors you are correct sir
Oops deleted my comment by accident, shoot, to many edits🤪, I agree, you Argo is high centering on your sugar snow, I’m thinking ya, maybe not worth the money for winter, tracks for your ranger would rock! I like that sweet fire starter, and -13c is cold my friend. You are brave to sleep in just a bag, no matter what it’s rated at. Koodos to you on that. Great video, thank you.
Hahaha - Ive done that too - then you have to remember what you typed! lol - The fire starter was great - I'm going to keep the rest for my emergency gear - awesome product. I guess its all relative - you get used to the cold. Anything warmer than -20c is very tolerable for me - once it gets below -25c it gets much harder until -40c it is just brutal and dangerous.
Awe, good to know, if you see any gamazing deals on those sleeping bags let me know or a way to make a 0 Fahrenheit bag warmer please post. I was thinking wool blankets and a bivy. Hmm maybe something to work on for next winter. We Have spring almost, that white stuff is melting! We hope to get the quads out on the snow for a few hours.
@@FawnandEvon The TETON -32c bag is available from Amazon.ca for $108 - www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B001TY3FU8 - It's bulky but cheap, spacious and warm. Ive been down to -20c with it and no problems.
Gee that’s a good price. I’ll check it out. I was woundering if you have ever been adventureing in Newfoundland? I’ve been looking at properties there. Totally amaziningly affordable, Iv almost got goosebumps there is SO much for the Mature Adventurer! I’d buy one of those small affordable places with gobs of land and totally spend my retirement savings there till I could no longer walk! This is the place for your Argo and tracks and atv, man oh man, hunting fishing! Totally Rocks! Wow!
Listen Michael, if you're going to disturb Esme while she's trying to ensure that your sleeping bag doesn't fly away in the wind, we might have to just contact the local society for the protection of animals 13:00. 😁😁😁🐺🐺🐺
LOL - it was kinda windy 😄 she was doing a fine job of holding it down 😉
The snow looked very sugary, maybe that's what gave you the problem in climbing hills. Something to look into. I would show the clip of your attempts to the dealer to see what they think was the problem. Keep the videos coming I do enjoy them.
Thanks Daniel - Ill keep everyone updated with the tracks performance. I think this was just a weird snow day!
Yeah show the dealer....lolol yeah cuz they will be totally honest with you.......lol fat chance my friend.....if you show them the video, your next words should be. "We need to discuss refund options" and btw "did I mention I have a CZcams channel with a decent amount of subscribers"
I know what you are saying about the hot tent. I was planning on hot tenting it today but had to postpone due to temps being max -3c overnight. No point.
Yea - that too warm - There is always next weekend! ❄️
Seemed to do okay didn’t look too bad in the snow
Hahaha, it wasn’t great 😄
Nice video. Commenting from Alaska. We make runs on a regular basis with a group of Argos. I have yet to encounter the issues you seem to have when driving through deep snow. However, we all run 8x8s, and we all run the 18" rubber tracks. We have found those plastic tracks are not good in soft stuff.
Yup - the plastic 18" tracks have little to no traction unfortunately. It's a poor design. I'm sure with the rubber tracks I would have done much better 👍
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Here is a link to one of our runs we did in April. There were areas we went through in which stepping out of the Argo meant waste deep soft snow. czcams.com/video/zKVv_Bsz5Fc/video.html
What type of wax did you use on your dogs feet?. Our dog Miley a Mini Schnauzer has had constant problems with her feet freezing up and has to be carried back from walks because of frozen feet. Wondering if the wax would help especially in snow.
Hi Glenn - the wax is "Musher's Secret Pet Paw Protection Wax" from Amazon. I small container would last a long time. I just rubbed her paws with it and she seemed much more conformatble on out outing. I applied more in the morning - she didn't seem to mind it at all. 🐶
I’m inside and I’m cold wishing I had that fire in front of me. Looks toasty. I think Esme was looking for a few more bites. Lol! I guess the Argo could still go in the water with those treads on? Sorry they didn’t do as well as expected. BTW if the weather was worse, for example would that be sufficient shelter from the wind or heavy snow or would you need to buy a different tarp setup? Tarps probably aren’t as wind proof as a tent or depending on the thickness of the tarp. I love Esme wearing that beanie (or whatever ya’ll call it) at the end of the video. Stay safe til the next one.
Hi Allice - Sorry you are cold today! You need to wrap up and stay warm 😊 The good thing about tarps is they are simple. If it had started to snow, you can just lower the front of the tarp or just cover your sleeping bag like a bivvi bag. Tents are much better as they keep most of the wind out but its nice to just camp under the stars 🌌 - I was surprised Esme kept the hat on long enough for the picture! 🐶 Best wishes Michael & Esme!
I'm not like expert on tracked vehicles or something, but i went some snowmobiling this winter. The snow was so that my snowshoes went right in when i tried them. The snowmobile got struck several times when i lost the speed and the terrain was pretty easy. I would try the Argo again. Still the Argo weights only 400kgs, did you have lots to carry? It could also count.
I was carrying about 100lb of gear plus me and Esme so 230lb. I think it was just that type of snow. We will see!
just in observation it seemed to go well in reverse have you got the tracks on the right way
The tracks don't have a right or wrong way - but you are correct it reverses much better - Could be the weight of the engine.
We’re you able to sort out your traction problem? Have seen other Argos that just run like the breeze in snow.
Not really - the rubber tracks would have been better but I switched to a Can Am Defender with tracks that is just awesome in the snow!
Just had another thought,,,why not use the wood stove for heat and to cook on, and get a slightly larger tarp to put behind the stove,,,still not a tent but a good heat source and easier to cook on with out the smoke feature?
Yup - I thought about that but I like to watch the fire burn - its very relaxing and it provides some light 😊 It also deters any critters like wolves, coyote and cougars.
good thinking about the wildlife @@TheEmporiumOutdoors
I run an 8x8 Conquest & under some conditions wheels are best while on granular material like dry powder snow tracks are best. Look like you are high bottoming on our keel. As soon as you skim the surface often the snow ill crust hard after a short time making it more difficult to traverse. If you run your one wheel on the old ridge where you already went you will do better but 8x8 vs 6x6 is a large change in surface contact..
Thanks David - that's some good advice. I think I should have bought the rubber tracks 🤔 but without comparing them side by side I will never know. I settled for the 6x6 as its fits in the bed of my 8' box.
I bolted 1" angle iron to those plastic tracks. They need to be bolted on upside down... like an inverted letter V. Escargo tracks are awesome but you'd need the winter kit. That set up would kill that 6x6. Try the light angle iron on each track section, you'll be impressed.
I considered doing the same with aluminium angle but I was afraid of it wearing the top part of the tub. I ended up selling the unit and moving onto a CanAm Defender with Tracks - So much better 👍
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors I also sold my 6x6 ARGO years ago. Since then, I've been through two 8x8's. My current ARGO is a 750 HDI which is now up for sale as well. I am fed up with the chains/sprockets and belts wearing out and the lack of power, so I bought a Land Tamer. That fixed everything, especially my bank account! Get out there, many people don't know what they're missing.
Great video looks like you went over some big foot tracks lol crossing road
Hi Kevin - Im sure there is a family of them not far from that location! 😉
Hmm. It may be just too powderd.. I seen something like it on life below zero and she was able to stay on top of the snow.
Yup - it was literally like sand - no clumping or anything. Weird stuff for sure!
I somehow managed to miss this one l.. still able to enjoy it in April! 20C here today!
Any thoughts on the poor snow performance of the tracks? Certainly the local Argo stealership can give a bit more info?
Hi Richard - I came to the conclusion is was the wrong type of snow! 😄 +20c wow that's not bad at all!
The Emporium Outdoors wrong snow? Hmmm ...not too sure what to make of it :)
I just removed the snow tires from my truck - a physical job for sure (for those of us who are desk jockeys). It was snowing 2 weeks ago, and now I’ve already cut the damn grass already!
I am looking for a canvas type shelter like you have .. any suggestions? Cotton is ok, but I am sick of poly-shit, old school is the way to go in my books.
Chat soon.,
Richard.
Bummer with the tracks, but you're prob right, just loose sugar snow. You just need a lift kit. Sigh:)
LOL - Argo lift kit - we would need some portal hubs! 🤔
Looks like fun. I'm thinking a smart manufacturer could make portal hubs for the Argo with that taller tires could be installed resulting in much more ground clearance. They make portals for the side by sides, why not the Argo which really could use them.
Hi Ruffus - Ive been thinking the same, a torsion bar suspension with portal hubs would be an amazing upgrade. Down side is these are expensive to buy now but with the addition of the other parts, they would be way too much to buy 😔
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors That's why I'm thinking purpose built & no other suspension mods, they'd bolt on with the option of three sizes 4, 6, & 8 inch plus having the ability to clock (index) them. so you could have either one size all around, or index the front & rear using 4 inch in the center & 8 inch front & rear angled at a 45 giving you much needed space for larger tires without rubbing & a longer wheelbase. Bigger tires= more flotation, longer track=more flotation. Since there's no need to accommodate steering ability or CV axles with an Argo, they should be much more cost effective.
P.S. larger tires also=more air suspension LOL
Thats a really interesting idea!
awesome
👍
Yea the conditions are wrong i think youl be glade when sno melts and in a day or 2 it will be great. Plus u can float and not to mention you got their cant do 50mph but still u got all the way out their problem when we used then at power co is belly drag u need a wench youll love it just dont try to compair it to any other machean all have proz and conz
Hi Eric - You are right - all machines have pro and cons - And I guess we did make it!
whats with the cheers and the ding 1600
So sorry your tracks didn’t work out quite as well as expected! Maybe there are somethings you can do, to tweak it!.? On the up side, with those ice grippers, it would have worked perfectly in our winter conditions this year in Halifax Nova Scotia......hardly any snow.....but the ice was crazy...people doing donuts 🍩 on the lakes in their utvs......and they won’t float like the Argo 😱
Hahaha - Yup the ice cleats work well on the ice - Ill figure it out - I'm not too worried about it just yet!
