Really someone who was made for Taskmaster. Helpfully, it’s balanced out by him being an absolute madman.
Of course, James' satsuma rant following the sock challenge is still probably a top 3 moment on the entire run off the show...
All so the cast the last few years have sucked.

They didn't even get Hugh's best part with the basketball on the treadmill. He ended up unplugging the treadmill and the basketball stayed there for months

Mawaan's disappearing cow task is one of my favourite things to ever be on the show. It blew my mind when I saw it.

Yeah he basically realised it would come down too his good the rainbow looked. And then didn't paint a rainbow.
Two more, in the vein of the last task, are when Russell and Alice unplugged the shower in the "keep Alex dry" task and when Liza attached a lizard to a drill to keep it spinning as long as possible. (Both are season 6.)

Rhod's unique way of solving challenges never ceases to amaze me no matter how many times i watch him
The trance he puts himself into after reading each task is so unnerving, but maybe there’s something for us all to learn there.

@@stanellison2229 yeah, adhd has a lot of downsides but it is related to higher proficiency for lateral thinking, mental flexibility and generally thinking outside the box. Any time I'm given a task aim not thinking "right let's do it", I'm immediately thinking "how can I complete this task without doing anything they wanted"
Me too! I’m motivated to do something I want to do, not something someone else wants me to do - when I find a workaround or do it differently I’m doing my thing. Also my head is full of thoughts and I jump to seemingly unrelated topics/solutions to problems quickly
The odd thing is, hes as likely to make the task harder
Just sad they cut it there in that last challenge, since the real genius of keeping the ball on the treadmill was what Hugh did after

One of my favorite "wonky workarounds" was when Richard Osman took the Yoga mat on the hill.

The contestants were supposed to get three exercise balls "on top of the mat on that hill." While the other contestants were struggling to both get the balls up the hill and make them stay there, he just grabbed the mat on top of the hill, brought it down, and plopped them on top

Rhod is hands down my fav contestant on old taskmaster (before Social distancing) his great laughs at Greg, the outbursts he had, but most of all, he was the literal definition of "think outside the box"
Oh, and his interactions with James Acaster are freaking amazing!

He is good at the task but his rudeness to teammates and his constant reminders that he's Greg's friend put me off him a bit. I actually liked him more before this show.
I believe Rhod tying up Alex will forever be my favorite task this show will ever have.
I'd love to see Hugh and Rhod competing against each other.
Hugh's really inconsistent so I think Rhod would win . Amazed at how good Rhod is. Not seen many of these before.

The reason rhod is in so many of these is because he alway takes a minute at the beginning to think through the possibilities.

Everyone always talks about Rhod, but Hugh was really underrated. He was sort of treated like the idiot of his series sometimes, but I thought he was great. I liked seeing how his mind worked.
Rhod's mind amazes and terrifies me in equal measure.
Alex spent a lot of that series tied up in his underwear…
when Rhod digs up the golf hole to make a hole in one, he’s brilliant and gets 5 points, but when I do it im arrested and banned from the golf course?
Because in the Taskmaster, the only rules are the ones stipulated. But at a golf course, they distinctly say no form of vandalism.
Just tell them you’re fixing a divot, you should be fine.

Rhod was easily the best contestant on the show, loved every prize challenge taking the piss at Greg.

I only just noticed that (thanks to the camera lighting) the wobbling shadow of the cow is visible on Mawaan’s jumpsuit at the start of his task, which could have given the whole game away if Greg had seen it!
You can also juuuuuuuuuust see the black wire(?) holding the cow's foot as well.
It's a legit visual effects technique, used in old movies - and just like with most visual effects (and magic tricks) once you know the trick you notice all the little tells that make it obvious, but if you _don't_ know the trick it's hard to notice the tells because you don't even know what you should be looking for.
And the fact that the cow looks a lot different from the original.
When Rhod is just having a great time, tying Alex up and completely forgets the sidetask, "Is that a local noise?"
"That is WORSE than what we did in the DARK!" hahahhaha
Hughs hopping task is made even better by the fact he was so thoughtful about mot cutting too many strings as he was worried about continuity for the others doing the task
I don't think that's the case. The contestants do all of their individual tasks in one big session, sometimes months apart (as we've seen some do a task in summer while another does the same task in the winter and also openly stated on the show by the contestants) so the ropes would have been taken down and put back up either way so the yard can be used for other tasks and not get into the shots. Sometimes continuity is totally thrown out the window because certain task setups are unable to be perfectly replicated so they just make it funny. Like when one contestant got chickens instead of dogs like everyone else because the dogs weren't available.
More likely he just cut the ropes to make one clear path. Cutting the other ropes would be more energy expended movimg around to them and would tire him out quicker. I'm sure his leg was already tired doing what he did.

Rhod was weirdly one of the best players ever because he always tried to think outside the box. Didn't always work but sometimes it turned out to be genius.

That's perspective trickery, not camera. If you were in the same position as the camera, with your vision limited to that of the camera, the trick would still work.
I think its because the rule of the task was no editing the video and there was no editing
Got to admit on the first watch, Mawaan's cow disappearance did leave me stunned with no idea how he did that. It wasn't until they revealed how he did it now with every rewatch you can clearly see its a toy cow! A one time wonder.
That's how all illusions/magic tricks work, tbh. Once you know how it's done, it's kind of boring.
It's still a great visual effect, though.

The first thing that came to my mind was when Mawaan removed the door bell and put it next to him while building the house of cards, that was clever
As others have said, Rod was there purely to wind Greg up, and it worked well for the most part since they've been friends for a very long time. I would love to be on a show like this since I'm very good at creative thinking and would enjoy trying to work around the rules and get the tasks done.

The audience going “oooooooOOOOYAAAAAY!” when the beach ball went over the finish line made it so much better
Hugh was brilliant on his season of the show but often it seemed that Greg just wouldn't cut him a break. Geniuses are rarely appreciated in their own time.
I actually got really annoyed with Greg. part of the show for sure, but man oh man, Greg was such a dick. Justice for Hugh!

In my opinion, Rhod Gilbert is the ultimate Taskmaster player.
This show actually shows how different personalities approach problem solving.

With the beach ball task, paul was pointing the hose at the wrong angle. It went backwards because he was pointing the hose at a high angle which pulled the rotation of the ball towards him, if he used a low angle it would have had a pushing effect
Legend has it that Hugh is still sitting there keeping the basketball on the treadmill, and that the manufacturer has sent out a dedicated team of mechanics to keep it operational.
He unplugged the treadmill in the actual task. Watch the show 🙄
If only he were not even smarter than that. First, he asked for a book to read, to be set on his lap, then he asked for the extension cord, unplugged it and went on his merry way. 😅
The jumping on one foot delivering dinner to Alex task.. I was sure someone was gonna put their foot down once and just drag it there.
