Johnny Vegas begging for points comes close. He guessed 1100 when the actual number of balls was 1192, but he failed to return all the balls in the pit and thus, disqualified. :(
The disappointment was palpable and it’s probably the 1# taskmaster moment. The task sums up and exemplifies what Taskmaster is I think.

The worst thing wasn't even him touching the red green, it was the betrayal from Doc and Jon😆 Katherine and Richard were ready to give him the win. H e a r t l e s s .
The James and Rhod dynamic is my favorite thing ever. James' frustration was so high every time they had to interact, he always looked like he was dreaming of shoving Rhod off a cliff.

My absolute favourite part of that is Joe's face after Doc says it. The audience howls with laughter, and you can just see Joe figuring out that Doc must've voted against him.

There have been a lot of incredible reactions/expressions in the course of the show, but that may genuinely be the best.
I love the little glances between them after the aubergines. Ed just wryly smiling. David glancing at him, then back at the drawing. Ed then at the drawing, face collapses, David looks at him. Such an excellent piece of accidental choreography.

I genuinely almost cry - either with laughter or sadness - every time I see that Joes potato’s throw was discounted and James hula hooping didn’t mean anything

The best thing is that Ed Gamble and James Acaster are good friends, they both really love Taskmaster, they both showed up to their series and were super tryhard, and it completely worked for Ed and didn't work at all for James.

@@ironicallyscreaming they have atleast one podcast together possibly more. the food one is among other things Ed who is diabetic make James eat different desserts Ed cannot have and describing the sensation back to him. They allso invite guests to talk about their dream dinner etc. Im not selling it well but if you give it a go you might enjoy it anyway
It also helps that Ed had a good team for his team tasks (and perhaps also that he is friends with Greg outside of the show).
James lost because he teamed up with rhod many time and rhod screw up task on purpose to embarrass Greg or Alex.

1:48, Greg and Alex are so evil, congratulating and clapping and hugging whilst fully knowing they're about to shatter all of his happiness into pieces.

The trick is having your life fall apart around you beforehand. Really helps sell the effect.
Alex moving the bucket for Al after vehemently denying that he'd do it for anyone to Sarah is such an underrated moment of this show. The reactions from everyone is amazing.
When Greg made Alex take a shoe and sock off, I just love Alex's face, he's like, "...I'm YOUR boss...and the shoe and sock are coming off oh dear"
How much did he spend that entire season buying his ways through the tasks?
The shame on Alex's face when they show the footage makes me crack up every time

@@TMTM7 Holy shit, I've watching dozens, if not hundreds of these, and this is the first I've found out that Alex is actually the producer and came up with the whole idea for the show. The interactions between Greg and him just sell their relationship so well, I assumed he was like, the equivalent of a band leader on a late night talk show.

Not enough praise is given to the way multiple contestant's attempts are edited together, one of my favourite editng moments of all time is going from Frank Skinner's "some of them will take 45 minutes to figure out they should be wet" to Romesh's "I should probably have wet them... this is so much better, it's rendered everything we've done up to this point completely worthless".
It was going to be a good day, until you brought up Joe's greatest day ever only to be crushed by the taskmaster 😰😰😰😰
I really want Joe to bring this up some time, and use it against Jon or Doc. Like maybe they’re on big fat quiz or would I lie to you, and Jon’s telling a lie and when Lee ask Joe what he thinks, he says that Jon’s a lying prick so he knows it’s bollocks.

As many times as I've seen this, it still hurts to watch. Honestly, I am not sure he really "touched" the green because the front part of sneakers/trainers typically are raised off the ground to allow for proper heel strike gait. It looked to me like the toe of the shoe wasn't actually touching the red green. I re-watched that episode while healing from surgery after breaking my foot in more than a dozen places then learning to walk again, so I had far too much time on my hands and the foot at the forefront of my mind.
The worst/best part is when Joe narrows his eyes at the realization Doc didn't vote for him and has the gall to say "That's harsh mate" and it didn't show it in the clip but also his looking back and forth between Jon & Doc like "you utter pr****" as they continue to lie.

Disappointed they only showed the baked beans counting and not the spaghetti-o's and rice grains.. and of course, Josh's full meltdown!
Romesh's laugh makes up for it though.
I'm pretty sure Ed would have killed David if they had been teamed up throughout the whole series.

What really excels this show is the editing and the work behind it. At 10:43 - to come up with the idea-on beforehand-to put the buckets in separate lanes so they can composite them post into a single shot.
Definitely, there is so much attention that goes into little details like that.
I knew it was going to be a great show when they cut Frank feeling superior about wetting the teabag into Romesh realising he should wet the teabag.

All those weeks, from the filming to the studio, they knew that they were going to pull the red green out from under Joe. THEY'RE DIABOLICAL! I love it.

The thing is, they know how to make this show entertaining. Had they allowed Joe to keep his points or had Alex refused to take Al's money, that would have been bland. But now we have absolutely iconic moments, that everyone is invested in. A bit of controversy is essential.
The same with Taskmaster NZ when David Correos was absolutely robbed with the "transform the room" -task. I thought the funniest part was him being treated completely unfairly, instead of getting a second try.

I heard a lot of people questioning why Doc was on the show as they didn't consider him a "proper" comedian. And yet he delivers one of the funniest lines in the series.

James was right though. Obviously some tasks have more to do with being clever than good, but the task clearly stated "find THE satsuma, not find a satsuma. Clearly the task referred to a specific satsuma not a random 1.

@@cheriaanderson5036 Actually the task says "find the sock with a satsuma inside" - therefore it can be any satsuma and Rhod's way of solving the problem is within the rules.
I've said it before, but watching Alex's genuine amusement in the live portion of the show says a lot. You know the guy works his arse off and his visible delight is a great payoff. Thanks! Dave J
What really annoys me about Joe's potato throw is that shoes aren't flat, they curve a bit at the front, so there's a good chance the bottom of his shoe didnt touch the red

One of the reasons the Joe Wilkinson bit is so amazing is not just the fact that he stepped on the red carpet, but the fact that as it unfolded, the entire cast, the contestants, Greg, and Alex, every single word that came out of their mouths was so perfectly hilarious for the moment and executed flawlessly, to think this is unscripted is why British TV, specifically panel shows, is without comparison.

I don't know that Joe even touched the red green. He was wearing pointy-uppy shoes. But the actual reason why that was an appalling decision is that every other competitor touched and interfered the red green far more than Joe even if he *did* touch it with his toes. Richard put stuff on it and *walked* on the red green. Katherine shoved it away after touching it with numerous implements. The two dickheads also touched the red green with stuff. If that's not touching, then I'll happily not punch them in the face by wearing a steel gauntlet. Except Katherine and Richard, who were fair about it.

And it's not the only time they used that definition.
Take the coconut task in season 5. "Don't touch the ground". Stepping on stuff was not touching the ground. Stepping on it with your shoes was.

I think Joe was truly upset by it if you watch though when Greg makes the joke about his wife Joe dramatically changes his attitude and starts hamming it up for the humor. I think that help Joe remember it didn't matter and he instantly switched to how can I make this as funny as possible.
You have to remember they are all comedians and are good at taking parts of who they are then blowing them out of proportion for humor. Just like with Romesh you can see him laughing hard at Greg quite a few times before remembering his grump face.

I’m down a taskmaster rabbit hole, and currently I’m watching series 9 as well as these compilations. The one constant has been Ed and David drawing on each other’s backs.

Firstly I saw a clip of drawings on the back task. I thought that Ed was really rude and mean to David. But then I watched their whole series and realized it was all justified... 😂
The Potato Incident is probably the greatest bit of television ever filmed.
I watched the first clip countless times and I’ve only now noticed that when Joe goes over to Alex and Greg, Alex goes in for a hug but Joe goes past him towards Greg. It’s at 1:39. They may have hugged afterwards but the footage cut so idk
Off topic...Taskmaster New Zealand has improved immeasurably in its second season. Paul Williams, in Alex's role, is fantastic.
I didn't really care for the first season of TMNZ, but the second one is a real winner! Great tasks AND great chemistry between all the cast members. Definitely worth a watch if you're a fan of TMUK.
It's by far the best international taskmaster I've seen so far. The US one was terrible

One of my favorite musical bits in this show is the one they use in moments like at 12:46 when he bribes Alex to carry the water.
The emotions on the way they laid that all out. The edit was magnificent.
The fact the potato episode is episode 2 of the entire show is insane. I think that incident made the show what it is
Rhod should not have gotten points for putting a satsuma in a sock as he was supposed to find THE sock with a satsuma inside. He did not find that sock.
If you want to go that route, he could have said he find the sock to be very nice, task accomplished...

@@Jehty_ No, he found a KITCHEN with a satsuma in it. He did NOT find the satsuma in the sock. If you want to be precise, and it seems you do, the task read "Find THE sock with a satsuma inside." At the point Rhod read the task there was THE sock with a satsuma in it, hanging with seven others right in front of him. He never found THAT sock.

Is there any footage at all of the production staff testing the feasibility of the tasks beforehand? I'd love to see some of the ones that they tested and failed trying.
People don't seem to notice that the individual tasks, like Josh's various counting tasks, never say "fastest wins" or anything like that - they never describe how to win.

Joe wouldn't have been touching the red anyway, most shoes bend upwards slightly at the front so he would have been over the red and not on it
Most shoes actually curve up at the toe so in all likelihood Joe didn't actually touch the red green anyways
That's what I think every time I see that blurry overhead shot. All we know is that a part of his shoe occluded the red green.
He put most of his weight on the ball of his foot and then rolled forward on it. It's pretty much impossible that it didn't touch.
Almost a monthly tradition for me at this point to come back and watch Joe.
