- Full tutorial on a DIY installation for the Rockford Fosgate Prime (R14X2) speakers to fit a BMW E90, E91, E92, E93 front and rear mid-range speakers.
The sound is much clearer and more defined compared to the standard speaker units.

Still missing to upgrade tweeters and sub. Sub is under the seat...
you think Rockford Fosgate P152 Punch 5.25 would fit?
I dont think so. It is a very shallow pocket in the door and the punch might be too deep
What about the performance with that upgrade speakers compare to oem?
MUCH better - and I am not even being dramatic.
The Rockford Fosgate gives a much clearer and Crisp sound.
I would definitely recommend it.
BMW E91 320i 2008 put besides the speakers anything additional ? Amp ? Or subwoofer ?
On my previous vehicle (2008 BMW E93, 330i) I replaced the stock underseat subwoofer with FOCAL drop in replacements.
I also used sound deadening material in the doors to insulate the sound inside the cabin.
I was extremely happy with the results. Ofcourse the vehicle had a Alpine amplifier already installed as a stock option.
I am NOT a big fan of aftermarket amplifiers and massive subwoofers in the trunk - I prefer the clean look and sound bu upgrading the stock parts.
BMW E91 320i 2008 Tha la I just installed the front speakers sounds very clean and nice enough for me ; agree with you don't like truck with subwoofer and the vibrating sound desambly my car ; I will go just for the rear speakers and that's it . Thanks for your comments Tito .
Awesome Tito, Enjoy!
Can you do this with 6 1/2" speakers
I believe they would be too deep/large for the door depth
So these will only fit if you install them the way you did? I’m looking at a technic harness that will keep from having to make any mods or cut any wires or drill any holes but it seems the depth of the speakers is bigger than the OEM speakers. Did you try mounting them in the OEM fashion?
Hi Daniel,
Yes I did.
Your first issue is that the OEM speaker have a 3 bolt pattern space 120 Degrees.
The Rockford Fosgate Speakers, like most aftermarket units, have a 4 hole (90 Degree spaced) bolting pattern.
The usual way around this would be to use an adapting plate - but the biggest issue is the space.
I mounted the RF speakers with the face flange on the car-inside side (if that makes sense) - not on the rear of the panel.
Even sou space is minimal and if you catch a wire behind the speaker when you put the panel back you can hear it scraping the window when you open/close it.
I am 100% with you on not drilling into my car door - so take my word for it when I say I wouldn't do it if it wasn't worth it - and I have done it to my E91 and E93.
Hope this helps
JP
Attempted the same myself, on pretty much any 4" you will need to top mount them so they don't hit the window. I had to top mount my JL's after I ran into the window hit issue. But, better to pay $160 vs. $600-$700 for car specific setups. The JL c2 4" I installed sound great!
I mounted 4" cerwin vegas that had the same four mounting points like the speaker in this video and I designed an adapter that I 3d printed so I could mount them almost as the OEM without modify any panels or so. Works great!
Hello, can you give us a link to Download the wiring diagram ?

would have done some sound deadening
Not a bad idea. TBH I added the sound insulation on my 330i E93 when I did the same mod and the difference was negligible in my opinion, but it is definitely NOT worse to add the insulation
@@MustangSN95 in my car it made a huge difference already and i dont have my new speakers or the amp with dsp yet ^^ No vibrations out of the doors anymore either
NEVER USE ELECTRICAL TAPE.
USE:
SOLDER SPLICES
HEAT SHRINK
CRIMP CONNECTORS
Do it right, or step away.
I will agree with using solder and heat shrink.
But using crimp connectors - I would rather place the two wires on top of each other and cover them with cotton candy.
Anyway - The wires were soldered and the electrical tape used to prevent shorts - and it still works...
But thanks for your input.
FutureAlpha are you stupid? Electrical tape is the standard procedure.
