You did a great job of installing the new kit, and it sounds good but the individual audio that this car came with sounds even better. It's not really surprising as that indi audio option had some very expensively designed speakers with neodymium magnets and hexacone membranes. To replace all the speakers for even an equivalent off the shelf driver would be into the thousands for speakers alone, with the midrange speakers developed by Eton sharing the same cone material as their HEX 300 line and magnets as their Core s2. (2k a set)
However if that's what you were commissioned to do then fair enough!
Nice video, very informative. The music is very relaxing, almost hypnotic, really.
:)
That looked like fun. Great job Lorenzo ! It does need some serious tuning.
Thanks Robert! We'll be installing an amplifier soon then it'll sound really great!
I made the hole bigger on my E46 and installed a 2 way 4 inch and replaced the stock 6.5 inch with a 5.25 inch 2 way Polk audio. Technically I did this to all four doors and rear deck. For bass I removed the 2 6x9 and cut a big enough hole to mount a bandpass enclosure. No bass in the trunk all bass goes to the cabin and of course aftermarket head unit and 2 aftermarket amplifiers. Nothing stock in my car and probably paid way less than what one of these upgrade speakers cost. Bought all my stuff on Craigslist and letgo. I got top of the line stuff but I wasn't the one that paid top dollar for it.
I remember doing this in summer 2017 but putting in an aftermarket HU. I also took out the rears and had a front stage. Ive since reverted back to the factory headunit and currently waiting for the weather to improve to hook the amps up again and get a dsp. I’ll put some rear coaxial in as since removing the aftermarket unit and putting the factory unit back in, I no longer have have the PDC gongs, probably because I don’t have rear speakers in.
Nice! Two days until Spring!
@@Qualitymobilevideo Was anything further done to this, in terms of adding a DSP and amplification? Was there any footage for it? Thanks
great video !!!!, this speakers also work on 2014 and up mini cooper hatchback , the subs are the 4ohm for the base system
Thanks!
I'd like to buy them but can't find them anywhere
Ah nice. I’ve getting the Audison Bit Ten D
well the oem factory system sounds better
This is the individual audio system. Placed above the harman kardon system. I was thinking the same thing. This is a very very good system. I like the grs speakers but they will not be better. It would have been more logical to replace the base of hifi system. Which do not sound well
@freezeme360 you're a clown cause i own the an e90 with the same system. All the grs system did was add a little more base but the higher frequencies don't sound toned down and idek what he tuned in the end like you can't tune a factory amp so he's misleading people by saying that
@freezeme360 nigga you replied after 7 month go fuck off
freezeme360 😂
@freezeme360 bro you a 12 year old
only those guys say that their parents work there lol
Such a great install
Thanks!
Hello, this video is just like a Pro .I really appreciate it. I WOULD LIKE TO ASK YOU SOMETHING IF YOU DONT MIND?
need more speaker installation video
Im owning an e90 lci with the 6" subwoofer under the seat, is it really worth it to change them to an aftermarket OEM speaker like the ghost or alpha one even the rockford fosgate systems? or could you just install an aftermarket amp with separate subwoofer running on an DSP?
(my bmw does not have the factory amp, 6 speaker setup)
I purchased a pair of 2 ohm GRS subs for my 2010 X5 with base audio, installed them and they sound amazing but my front speakers stopped giving out any sound so I reversed them to the sock subs. I currently have GRS mids, tweeters and coaxial speakers on the doors but I need more bass. How do I add an amp to power my GRS subs?
Excellent Job
Door molding sound absorption from the factory!!!
I hope he keeps their original speakers to put it back
Great install! How do you like the tweeters, they didn’t sound too crisp in the video but How are they in person?
It's hard to tell not in person but they sound great, the owner loves the system and is dying for the amplifier we're gonna put in!
Is it posible that all of a sudden al driver side stopped wornking except the back speaker? Left twitter with door midle and under seat not working..what can it be?
pleaseeeee bro i need a vid on compression drivers whats the best what do i have to look for and how and where do i mount them
theres nothing on CZcams for compression drivers and installation a video is needed
Thx bro, you saved my life
Glad to hear that!
I could not find this GSR product? Did it go out of business?
Which model sub did you use? GRS only offers 2 and 4 ohm subwoofers and the factory m3 individual audio subs run on 7 ohms
This guy doesn't even know it is individual audio. Probably used the 4ohm version and fried the amplifier already🤦
In order to get a full range signal to send to the DSP, do I need to tap the fronts only or the front and rears? 2011 E90 with non-I drive base HU. Thanks
Shakeel, I'm 10 months late! But on base audio system rear is high passed front is full range. Hi fi is full range on front and rear. So to answer your questions, tap into fronts.
Bonus - technicpnp sells a harness to make installing amps plug and play and is also so easy
Maybe in sunny California. But here in the UK at present, the weather sucks. What amp are you going to be using to drive them?
Sony XM-GS6DSP :)
no wonder that factory system sounds better
It's an Individual Audio 900w 13 speaker system (3 coaxial) with DSP made by Dirac who produce top audio systems for Bentleys and Rolls Royce.
You know it. Also the speakers on individual audio systems are Bang & olufsen. This video was a horrible downgrade.
I have a 2011 E90. I know that you have to tap the front speaker cables in order to send a full signal to the dsp, but where is the best place to tap it? Is it best to grab it from behind the head unit, or from the plugs that you disconnect from the woofers under the seat? I know that they are in parallel with the mids in the door. Thanks
Depending on your DSP, it's best to get the signal from the source/head unit and then send the new signal to the speakers!
@@Qualitymobilevideo Thanks for that. What I mean is, on the E90 base model, the full range signal can be tapped at the cables for the front door speakers. Those speakers are also joined to the underseat woofers in parallel. So basically it's about convenience and ease of install. I could stick in a break out harness at the head unit and run a "T", with one side going to the speakers and the other side going to the amp, alternatively, I could connect at the plugs that have been disconnected from the woofers under the seat as they will no longer be connected to anything because new cable has been run from the woofers to the amp. How about running new cable completely to all the speakers including the door mids and the tweeters, how difficult is it to run those through the door boot and I suppose I don't have a choice if I want to run fully active?
So the before/after has a MASSIVE drop off in treble, likely since you went from six total tweeters to just two. Why was that the plan instead of just using the GRS coaxials? The replacement system sounds noticeably worse as set up and to compensate you're going to need to drive the hell out of the two tweeters that are installed. Seems poorly thought out.
It is a bad upgrade. This shop just replaced the Bang & olufsen speakers on an individual audio system. I dont think many speakers can compete with those😂
Yeah they replaced the best bmw standard system with shit
Gladen boxmore … for e90.
Definitely needs more highs in the new system. It sounds mid muddy. Lol if thats a thing. There is so much mid and not enough highs.
This video is very detail. Good job pal.
Thanks Richard!
The only thing I don't like about the new subs is the lack of protection, even with the plastic cover there was still coins and dust and debris about to go into the cone that the cloth protector with the stock sub kept away from the cone.
Good point
Maybe cover the cover with a cover ..?
Factory system better than a new system :D :D :D
Where I can buy that recaro seat
Bmw
The factory system sounds better
I guess Im asking the wrong place but does someone know a method to get back into an Instagram account?
I stupidly lost my password. I love any tips you can offer me
@Emmett Iker Instablaster ;)
Them seats 😘
both new and old system sounds the same. If anything you're better off upgrading the stock amp for a better one to get more out of the factory speakers.
I can't hear much difference from stock system to aftermarket...i think the low's are too strong overshadowing the mids and highs but maybe it's my taste...
Either way, the stock setup was not bad so, when doing these sound updates go with better materials like Focal etc you pay the money but you definitely gonna hear the difference ;)
We didn't select the gear to be used, the owner of the car did :)
@@Qualitymobilevideo of course, i understand. Just saying spending the money and not getting much out of it...
The owner did not know what he was doing. He had the highest factory option, individual audio system. Meaning the speakers are already Bang & olufsen, so there is pretty much nothing better. If anything he should have upgraded the amplifier.
Why would you replace the Individual Audio speakers with these cheap speakers?
*No wonder u can’t find these for sale!*
stock speaker is high sensitivity speaker 2.83V/1m looks like the new speaker need to add an amps
there's 8 (technically 10) speakers I think it would be hard to have an aftermarket amp setup
@@MarshallSmith27 put 2x 4 channel amps + 2x mono amps 😁
Literally put the speaker mount gasket on the wrong side LOL🤣
Another one who thinks replacing the very capable Individual speakers with some generic drop ins will result in better sound quality. Well, the before and after footage speaks for itself. It doesn't...
All that effort to remove subs .Then could not be bothered to fit some sound deadening material under it .Would have made a massive difference
And now they can sold this old and used BMW Individual Audio System speakers for even more $$ than this GRS system is worth new
But the tutorial could be useful
sounds the same if not less bass
You would think BMW with a car with that kind of price tag won't cheap out on the sound system but they did ☹️
Right
this guy puts the gasket on the wrong side, lol. it goes between the inside of the panel and the speaker adapter plate to minimize vibration.
Is this the amp you guys are going to use? www.sony.com/electronics/car-amplifiers/xm-gs6dsp
Yes!
@@Qualitymobilevideo I'm planning I'm doing that with my E90 soon it seems like a very good amp with quite a few nice features
Maybe you guys can offer some harness options and a DIY kit to offer to enthusiasts for installing.
Did you really just replace the speakers on a Bmw with individual audio system aka Bang & olufsen speakers? That will be a downgrade for sure.
This vehicle had the base audio system. B&O was never offered in the e90.
@@Qualitymobilevideo That is absolutely not the base audio system. First of all a base audio system would not have tweeters at all, only midrange speakers and underseat woofers. Bmw E-series cars got the Individual audio system with Bang olufsen speakers and amplifier made by Lear.
M3 base always had tweeters, regular e90 had no tweeters.
@@Qualitymobilevideo Oh yeah M3 "base" is actually Harman kardon/Logic 7 (which is not really a base audio since e90 has 2 audio options below that) but this one in the video has the optional individual audio system with dirac time compensation technology and bang & olufsen speakers. Can easily be noticed from the speakers since Harman kardon midrange speakers are regular black ones, but Bang olufsen midrange speakers are those little yellowish. Also individual audio has speaker grilles with chrome visuals
0:18 that lazy tag placement tho.
lol
Why did you replace an extremely good Individual audio system made by bang and olufsen with something worse with less speakers? 😂
replacing crappy stock speakers for even crappier more expensive speakers. seams like a waste of money to me.
Bro how much speakers can we connect to a 2channel amplifier
The Day Dreamer bridge it
depends from speakers and lowest impedance that amp is stabile
Depends on the gear, what's the amplifier?
@@Qualitymobilevideo Sony 2channel amp
Dang why can't all car manufacturers make it that easy to replace rear speakers? Toyota i'm talking to you.
Lol
Lol who finds the factory one better?
The haters
Sorry guys, but factory speakers sound better replacement. Owner of the car throughout the money////////////////
Removing Bang & Olufsen speakers and installing cheap GRS speakers is, let's be polite, strange!
Factory audio is better...
Hmmm... not using components, even when there there....not using 2 way even when there were there.... ok..
sounds the same lol
Factory speakers sounds way better dude... What have you done to his car?🤣
for an audio guy the sound on your video is tragic , sounds like a seventies tape deck with a slipping drive belt
Yea because this is the perfect environment for audio pick up, outdoors, moving around in a car. The audio in this video is more than suitable for the necessity of the video. Quit nitpicking dude
whatever
very poor advert for quality audio , voice is grand given the circumstance , back ground music is simply tragic .
Tom, it's an INSTALLATION video. We're just showing people how to INSTALL gear. This isn't going to be nominated for best sound design at the Academy Awards. Relax bro
BMW gets their speakers from GRS? hahaha GRS is like one of the cheaper brands. they are a really cheap brand. you could get a 12'' woofer from them for $15. l would have expected better from BMW.
Were you paying attention? We installed GRS speakers into the BMW. The GRS speakers were not the factory speakers and subs.
@@Qualitymobilevideo but isn't that a factory speaker on the left side of the screen? 0:53
@@ElectronicsForFun its the same GRS speaker. Just 2 of them shown front and back.
@@nbeebe24 oh that makes sense.
Horrible background music
A waste of time and money.
God that is one hideous BMW
What a downgrade... From Individual Audio system to some cheap shit.
My suspicions were correct, you not an installer as you can't even do a plug and play properly ,please just stop installing if you value car audio...
Worlds most boring install?
😘
I can’t believe you replaced the Individual system. You downgraded the audio system 🥲
