- Bape is one of the most iconic brands in streetwear history. In this video, we look at how it’s founder Nigo found his love for fashion through the world of rap, met other influential designers like Hiroshi Fujiwara of Fragment and Jun Takahashi of Undercover, the start of his store Nowhere, teaming up with SK8THING to launch A Bathing Bape (better known as Bape), and his friendship with Pharrell Williams. We’ll also take a look at some of the most famous Bape collabs (including Supreme, KAWS, and Disney), working with Kanye West, his decision to leave Bape, the launch of his new label Human Made, and much more. This is the history of Bape.

Made a huge impact in hip-hop and yet a few people know this guy.
Idk even when these dropped in the 90s people were wearing BAPE shoes and sometimes you will see shirts, it was really popular, even in Elementary school we all wanted BAPE shoes, all the hip-hop heads and street wear lovers. Even in the video he says Lil Wayne was known for bringing it to America too and I grew up 10 minutes outside of New Orleans so everybody was listening to Lil Wayne back in the day, so everybody knew about BAPE in the 90s in Louisiana

this was my first introduction to your channel, and I gotta say that you are really good at doing proper and deep research, and are very good at explaining it. even just the background footage is still quite rare to come across, and you are very good at explaining things, that might seem complicated.
I learned a lot from this video, even tho I already knew quite a bit about nigo, and bape and so on, but I learned a lot about sk8things involvement, and how Hiroshi Fujiwara basically is behind most major Japanese streetwear brands!

I just watched the Netflix Halston series and after watching your videos on Bape and Hood By Air they all seem like cautionary tales against over extending and corporations that only want to wring as much profit out of a creative label as possible before it collapses under diminishing quality and excessive quantity

wow this jus put a lot of things together I've always wondered . another great video .
always knew about pharrell and nigo but wasn't sure how they met and bonded , and ice cream is what originally got me into shoes when they first came out . and i think wayne wore bape cuz someone told him he should for a video or photo shoot cuz what he had was too regular and corny or something but i could be wrong , and i have a feeling kanye might have been introduced to bape from pharrell since at one point they were both on the same label called good music , but my timeline could be off for that . and wtf i never knew he was behind teriyaki boyz hahaha

In one of their episodes they recently talk about Nigo and bape but mainly about fujiwara and sk8thing and their influence on streetwear. Your content has similar vibes but just on yt and i love it.
