- With hairdressers around the world in government lockdowns to stop the spread of the coronavirus, the only way I can keep a fresh trim is to take a bash at it myself…
I've enlisted the help of Sean Moore, the creative director of Menspire salon and a hairdressing teacher at the Menspire Academy. He's taught hundreds of students the core techniques for hairdressing, and I'm hoping those skills will work for me cutting my own hair.

Cutting Your Own Hair At Home | Against Professional Advice
At end of the quarantaine, he will be professional.

He will not be left with hairs if he tries to.
Actually, he didn't do a bad job. I've had professionals do worse.
I agree
They weren't professionals den. 😂😂
@George White No one cares
@George White Yeah that's why I said I don't do you speak English?

Everyone’s hating on the hairdresser dude but he seems like an alright guy. His anxiety only adds humour to the video.
Who the hell says the "hate" him. 😂.
HoshinoOtakuu Hating on someone means making a negative comment.
Haven’t seen a single hate comment on him
I don't get why anyone would hate on him, he's actually pretty likeable. Actually I haven't seen a single hate comment about him, seems like you just made it up because you had nothing to add to the conversation 😂

Same. I merely think it’s because he looks good with volumic, comb-over hair and didn’t go with bangs. Maybe the barber looks for texturing and shape that are not immediately obvious.
It looks fine cuz you're a straight man, he could have cut it with two stones and a blowtorch you would have said thesame thing. I think that man looks clean and ready for work.
@@glennv3176 nah I'm not straight and I think it looks fine too

Yeah I'm shocked to see someone recommend you give them money
The haircut looks good but the barber doesn’t want people cutting their own hair
Yeah, there are a few of us out here that no haircut is going to make us look like a moviestar. So, ironically, a "5" is probably pretty OK for most of us especially under the circumstances. Furthermore, if you don't try, you'll never learn, and if you don't practice, you'll never get better. Finally, you'll probably need a new haircut in a month anyway, give yourself a mohawk, it just doesn't really matter that much. (OK, don't do that, just making a point) If I start going clubbing, or go on the red carpet, I'll make an appointment with the pro.
Man not gonna lie, he's done a 10/10 in my opinion.
The Corona Cut : Once you chop.. you just can't stop
Totally underrated.
djfunkychicken Is true man, I had medium length hair and over the space of a week I ended up with a buzz cut after slowly taking a bit off every day to “fix” previous mistakes.

lol.. I’ll add some more truth. My relative is a hairdresser and a year ago he went for an extended holiday. It took me 3 separate haircuts before It looked convincing enough for people to think it was done professionally. I’m a naturally artistic person tho.. and that is a big bonus. Nothing beats looking at yourself in the mirror after realizing that one snip made your hair go from ok to gay 🤣🤪😱
I love the hairdresser. He obviously care about his customers' hair. Most hairdresser have no passion on hairdressing and only do it for the money.
I felt like the hairdresser doesn’t want everyone to cut there own hair, he want them to go to the barber & he wants people to pay thousands of dollars for his academy. I’ve seen alot of people cutting there own hair and they say that its pretty easy. This man says you should never try it.
@@leowalters8599 He's passionate about cutting hair and would rather see it done well than done poorly! What do you expect?

You know, I know that the pro is protecting his profession and he's right that a professional stylist/barber will always do the best job, but I think he's absolutely wrong that people shouldn't try and cut their own hair at home, or that the average person can't do it. Of course we can. It wouldn't look as good as if a pro did it of course, but of course you can.
See the point is, if everyone at home starts cutting their own hair, after the quarantine everyone will be pros and he will become jobless😂.
So for the sake of his profession he will discourage everyone😂
Vincent Lok on the last sentence you made a typo. Wouldn’t*
I've let my hair grown out and then cut it to 1-3 mm with some clippers a couple of times. Along the way I would try to make something of it and fall back to very short if it didn't work out. You. will. look. like. a. twat!
It can be done but you also have to be honest with yourself. Just be ready to accept the skinlife.
Or just go bald lul
You're right. He's giving advice out of concern for others and that is a good thing, but he's also subtly implying the risk is too high (and I think that's a little exaggerated). If someone wants to learn to cut their own hair, as long as they understand that might take practice, patience and even _risk of being self-conscious in public_ then _why not_ try it yourself? Everyone starts somewhere with something. Again, it makes perfect sense that a professional recommends their work done professionally, but this skill is something I believe a lot of people sell themselves short on because it's _too_ discouraged.
It actually looks good and it fits you.

Yeah I was cringing the entire time, especially when I self cut my hair and it's honestly not as shocking as people made it to be. Matter of fact I got more use to the way my hair grows and knowing exactly the style I want to go for, compared to somebody in a barber shop who doesn't know what my hair looks like in the morning.

Barbers love to boost how hard of a job cutting hair is, when really it isn't that difficult, I was able to give myself I pretty good fade on all the 3 times I've tried while using some horrendous clippers. you just need to watch a bunch of vids, and don't rush in when cutting. When doing it bit by bit you'll be able to catch any errors to made before the become major
Are you a barber?
Exactly!
Good sir, I think you pretty much gave description of every "professional" claiming his job is difficult. These men were kids once and they had to learn it the same way. If something is mastered by a person, then another person can master it. It's all about practice, practice, practice and of course doing it with the right tools. Matter of fact any bum from the street can do it with the overpriced tool, what makes a professional is a guy doing the same job with the wrong (DIY) tool making it look like a pro job.
@Cheekymonkey do you have any good lead from youtube link where we can practice?
@@Pizz48 just watch barbers on CZcams, they show you step by step how to do a proper haircut, even what tools you'll need and a guide the entire time, then all you have to do I'd apply those steps to your cut. It'll definitely take a long Tim's if you're starting off, but if you know that going in, and you take your time, understand the steps, you'll be really good. There is even a whal home cutting kit with special guards that are slanted and blends the hair for you. Definitely a good way to go for beginnings, I believe it's the color coded one on amazon, or Walmart should have them, it's like 20 bucks, definitely a good beginner's set.

2020: *Learning how to cut your own hair*
I've been cutting my own hair for close to 10 years now. Its not as hard as this dude makes it out to be, but it does require a ton of patience and a LOT of manual dexterity. It helps that I generally keep my hair short, longer hair would be harder.
But, invest in good shears, take your time, don't worry about "proper" stance (do what feels good, because cutting your own hair is a different beast from cutting someone else's), and check your hair often (bonus points if you use a hand mirror to check behind your head).
he is joking too
This guy isn’t losing any business by admitting the haircut is good, a professional obviously sees things differently. Also keep in mind this is the result after a barber coaching him through it and this probably took over an hour. Trust me this is hard to do and might come out decent but you’re better off finding a good barber especially if your haircut is more than a 4 in the sides and a bit off the top.
Me at the start of the video: This a bad idea

Anyone else considering getting a buzz cut? My thoughts are, no one's going to see me for a while anyway! 😂
Just try it. you never know when you didnt try it
Buzzed my hair beginning February right before this whole coronavirus took off, glad I did
Did it the other day and have done it in the past several times. My advice to everyone is to give it a try; hair always grows back. Plus, a lot of people look better with a buzzcut (and you use a lot less shampoo, which is great right now).
I found a handheld rechargeable clipper by Remington on Amazon that does the trick. Old school Barber clippers are hard to use by yourself... the Remington one is made for self use.
I didn’t get a buzz cut 😂, but I did cut my hair pretty short.
I have always wanted to cut it like this length-> 👩💼 but was always worried it would look bad on me.
Since I won’t have to see anyone for a long time, I did it. And it looks pretty good 😁👍
Too bad the barber is so negative. As a barber of 45 years, I’d say he did well, and go for it!
Hello friend
He isn’t negative... I’d say he’s passionate about good hair and he doesn’t feel comfortable encouraging someone to potentially make a mess of their head. I’d rather get my hair cut by someone that clearly cared about what they were doing.
Ugly People The thing is, no one is going to get close to your personal space and stare at your hair for closer details like it's art.

Well to be fair, he's guiding him through Skype (I think), so I'm sure he can't see the haircut clearly well so he might be negative because he's used to see his haircut in person
"we got people that come to our accademy and pay thousands of pounds to learn from us" That's the reason why he can't say his home made haircut is good
I took classes at Menspire. I flew over to London from Atlanta, and I learned so much from those guys. They’re absolutely brilliant! So stoked to see high quality barbering!

Just cut my own hair for the first time. This video is trying so hard to get people to go to barbers lol. With our circumstances at the moment it's worth a try to cut your own hair. I did a pretty decent job and actually tailored it to my liking better than barbers who over do it and dont give me the look I want (after showing them pictures too). This guy is purposely doing a terrible job. The trick is to correctly use clipper guards in steps. Look up a better video, this barber was cringing the whole time instead of helping.

Turkey voting for Christmas
It's uneven. Lol Not even close to right. When he looks slightly right or left it looks like he has bed head. Only it's cut that way
Ok so I'm a hairdresser so this is another professional opinion. From the front his hair looks great, but the thing tricking you here is that his hair is dark on camera. It's by far not the worst haircut I've ever seen, and honestly I've fixed worse things that stylists in my salon have put out. But when he turns his head you can see that none of it is blended, and it's uneven. So he ended up with a bowl cut. I ended up as a hairdresser in the first place because my dad used to cut his own hair and he taught me how to do it. So it's definitely possible for ppl to learn, it just takes a lot of practice and trial and error. I agree, to save yourself the headache just have a friend or someone clean it up a little.
It wasn't bad to normal people of course, but to barbers we are ocd about hair. Especially when you care for your clients
For a person that do this the 1st time, i would give it a 8/10 rating given the situation we are in now. Great job mate.
This is hysterical. Thank You.
Tip from my experience cutting my own hair for some time: Before you cut your own hair, cut someone else's hair multiple times. Of course not to mess their hair intentionally, but to get the feel of it and learn. And to reduce the risk of giving them a horrible cut, cut very little by little and they'll have to trust you haha. This will help a lot when it's time to cut your own hair because by then you'll be good at using the tools, familiar with the way you handle hair and the shapes before and after the cut (as some types of hair get even shorter because they curl when cut). And obviously I am not encouraging anyone to go knock on your targets during quarantine to give them free haircuts. It takes time and practice as the professional said in the video. Good luck.
i cut my own hair at home since 2008 and its looks amazing "mostly" its kind of easy using 2 mirrors and electric shaver only
I actually use three mirrors and I've done better than the so-called pros

She always goes to the neighbor’s salon because she feels some sort of obligation to her even though she doesn’t like the job she does. She always stands in the bathroom(or the back yard) with a hand mirror after leaving the salon to “fix” it.

This barber sounds like he's trying to prevent people from cutting their own hair because he'd lose his job
yea in these times he can't even work so what the crap are you talking about?
@@buti5679 he is suggesting once enough people start cutting their own hair, and learn that its actually pretty easy to cut one's own hair, that you'll see through all these Barber's and hairdresser's prices and never go to them again. If you cut your own hair more than 3 time, you'll definitely get a hang of it and be able to do it with the same level of result as many of these professionals would do. The only thing that separates the average person who does his own hair and a professional, is the amount of time it will take one to complete the cut; because the actual skills aren't that hard to learn. Being a pro just means you can do it relatively quickly, that's pretty much all the difference you'll come to see once you cut your hair a few time and know how to do it from that experience.
Gilberto Flores to do a fade haircut takes ages. I did a job on my own a few weeks ago but it took 1.5 hours to get it looking that way and I was tired after. I’d pay to avoid this. That’s why we go to barbers.

COIN -USP it’s not a difficult skill it’s repetitive , but then I work in engineering and science analysis and that’s the same, so I’m not putting the industry down. If people matured at the same rate, everyone would be able to do the job of a technical scientist,
The job of a good barber is no easier, it’s repetition, experience and confidence.
The art of the fade is not hindered when it’s your own hair, but the time aspect is. As per my previous comment I managed to replicate my barbers work, but it took at least 5 to - 10 times the effort, and mid cut stress and worry , as to whether I could resolve the problem I had created part way through .
To be honest most people could cut their own hair and do a good job with a little practice, my wife started cutting my hair a few months back and she is doing a great job. My brother cuts his own hair from years now and he does good. I guess is more convenience than anything else to get a barbershop haircut. Just like eating at a restaurant, cheaper and easier with practice if we eat at home, but eating out sometimes is good to relax.
Seems fine to me. I ordered a clipper kit last week and have watched a dozen or so of these type of videos. Not an easy task but doable - you did a fine job. I liked the tip about getting the back of the head. This is going to be fun.
