- Looking for a haircutting tutorial for men that you can do yourself? Here are my tips for doing it yourself using a set of clippers - no scissors required. I have been cutting my own hair for over a decade, and I have found this technique to be very user-friendly and forgiving:

4 years later I still come back for the instructions, this is a timeless and priceless video. Do you know how much you already saved me $$$ ? You should add a tip jar for people to contribute for your time.
After three and a half months without a haircut and having watched your excellent tutorial several times I finally cut it myself this morning. The result was far better than I expected. Many thanks
Dude ur awesome, only video I can find online that shows me how to cut the entire head with clippers because I don't trust myself to cut my boyfriends hair with scissors. Thanks dude!
Just took delivery of my first ever clippers today and at 71yrs of age with a full head of hair I plucked up the courage to to cut it myself. Never realised how easy it was until I tried and your tutorial certainly helped so many thanks.
John, I'm a little older than yourself and waiting for my clippers to be delivered. Wish me Luck.
@@mikeswain1945 I wish you luck! I cut mine for the first time at 81. Did OK! Mine's longer so I was more tentative!!!
I cut my own hair last night with my new clippers using your technique... and it came out perfectly! My wife was in shock. Thanks so much for the great video!
This is a good one, straight forward and easy to follow. After watching this the thought of cutting my own hair was no longer a terrifying prospect. Thanks a lot
This is actually how my mom used to cut my hair when I was a kid. It's interesting because I'd never seen anyone else do it like this until now. Good tutorial!
Thank you! This is the best video I have seen on cutting your own hair.
You've done this over a decade? Its no wonder. Very professional. Thanks for sharing. I'll be my own guinea pig soon after I received my clipper.
I watched a couple vids but this helped me explain to my adult daughter what to do. New Jersey is still on COVID lock down and nobody is giving haircuts. Even my wife liked the way it came out. Thank you.
My Son just asked me this evening to cut his hair, and likes to wear it similar to yours. Thanks for the tutorial... this Mom appreciates it!
Simple, straight forward, good camera angles. Thanks!
Thank you very much. I really appreciate this self hair cut tutorial. It is very detailed that you described how to cut your own hair, step by step with real actions. I am a barber myself who has never cut his own hair before. By watching what you did here, i have learned this self cut technique and applied for myself successfully. Again, much appreciated to your most helpful video among all that i have seen before.
Really tried to find a good video to follow to cut my teenage sons hair and every one of them was over complicated I’m so glad to have found yours as I’ve now mastered his hair after 5 months of it growing so it was a big job. Brilliant video 😊
Any video that doesn't begin with "hey guys! If you like this video make sure to like and subscribe!" deserves an upvote, IMO. Besides, the tutorial is really well explained. Many thanks
This tutorial is amazing. I just got my wahl clipper today and will buzz my hair tomorrow. I will be playing this video as my guide. Here in SF/Bay Area, we still do not know when barbershops and hair salons will open.
Besides shaving my own head prior to a deployment...I've never had to cut my own hair. My clippers arrive today, and I'm fired up to give it a go. Thanks to you and your cinematographer (wife?) for making this video.
The best one I have seen so far. Simple and easy.
I've cut my hair 3 times now, using this video as guidance, and it's turned out well each time. Many thanks for posting this :)
Bro can I use a 5 guard and cut all my sides and top ,?? I’m worried that it won’t be the same length
Thanks a lot, man! That's exactly what I was looking for. No professional barbers, no fancy haircut. I just wish I have found your video two weeks ago.
But it worked well. After I cut my hair, my dad and my brother asked .e to cut their as well))). Thanks for the great tips!
That was a great video....Thank you very much. Now more confident of having a go this morning with an old wahl clippers a hairdresser friend gave me years ago which I never used!
Thanks so much. Love your chill down to earth vibe. I’m about to do it for the first time and am a bit nervous about it. The guide gives me some confidence.
Thank you for giving me the courage to cut the top of my hair, I’ve always been afraid to cut the top.it’s not easy cutting your own hair! I finally got the courage up and actually did a decent job of it! Thank you for your help!
Thanks Clark. I won't go for your style, but you gave me lots of ideas to do my own hair at least for the duration of COVID-19. Who knows I might become very good at it then I can forget about going to the barbershop. Yes, as you say you will save lots of money. And nothing wrong with that.
Agree with others. Best self cut video I have seen and I have viewed many.
Thanks for all the tips!
Great job. Came out very nice!
My clippers are coming in this week, I'm taking the plunge lol good video and hair cut.
this guy is the best on youtube..his cut looks better than pros from a true barber
Outstanding!
Are you italian?
Thanks for this! Its simple and easy to follow.
Thank you for this tutorial! Even though your video is not as polished as others I've seen, it's definitely the most practical/applicaple/useful. I tried it this morning and it worked like a charm - way better than the method I was using (scissors for top, clippers for sides). A diamond in the rough!
I have been cutting my own hair for over 17 years, and I love it. What i do is I actually do cut my hair in the bathroom but I stand in the shower and do it, because all the little bits will go down. Now, if their is a lot of hair, then, I will take it out of the way and throw it away. The clippers do a great job though in cutting the hair and chunking it up. To avoid messes and vacuum, I just do it in the shower so everything is done in one place. It is very nice to cut my own hair because I ddon’t have to tell the barber how i want my hair and coming up with the money for it. I can cut it, shave, or leave it alone and I know the clippers will bee their when I am ready to cut it. It is not hard at all to cut your own hair. I tell people it is similar to using a trimmer and electric razor but on a much broader scale.
One of the better videos. I have been cutting my hubby & older son's hair for quite awhile and I'm Not a hairdresser or barber. It's hard to find a video like this with just clippers. Thank you
Thanks for this! Who knew I could cut my own hair, just did it and it turned out great! Thanks for saving me $$$
I ve seen a few "how to cut your own hair" vidéos. This is the best one I've seen so far.
Very helpful, not too complicated.
I cut my hair today after watching this and it turned out good enough. I think its a lot easier than it seems actually, hair stylists and barbers aren't going to tell you that though! Might have saved myself from paying to get a hair cut! The blending on the sides is tricky, but I will keep practicing!
Not to mention my seven year old daughter helped me cut the top with scissors.
Great job! Thanks for all the tips!
Awesome video, thank you for the information. My haircut came out great.
Thanks Buddy. Its been over three months since I've had a haircut and still can't go out and get one. I'm going to try to give myself a haircut for the first time.
Been searching for an hour for these and this was the best video. Going for it tomorrow. Thanks for the tutorial!
Thanks, man. Glad it was helpful!
@@Clarkscondensed I just got done. A lot harder than it looks, but I don't look like a caveman anymore. Just someone with a s****y haircut, lol
@@jeffjamjeff6669 how did you line up the back?
@@seanmiller4559 I used two mirrors and went super slow. The blending is what I struggled with. Now that it has grown out it doesn't look so funny. But I would do it again just to get all that hair off. Good luck!
Just tried it myself and I'm quite happy with the results. The only part that I didn't do well was the crown of my head, but I can always go back at it again tomorrow.
Edit: Actually people have told me that the back of my head looks perfect. So I guess everything went better than expected.
Impressive, good job!
Thanks for the great video.....my clippers will be arriving next week.....looking forward to the first haircut 😃 Thanks for giving me the confidence to try it 😃
I used your video as a guide to cut my own hair for the first time last night.
I was nervous at first but about 10 minutes in, I felt a lot better about it. Unless It's different with other haircuts, it seemed like messing it up badly would've been hard. I like my hair short so I just used your directions but ended with different guards. Not saying it was a breeze but it was easier than I thought.
Thanks for the video.
Thanks man 10 weeks since I got it cut I had to do something looked at your video and very well explained. First time I ever cut my hair by myself in my life and it turned out great. Thanks your a life saver
Welcome to the 'I bet you're surprised I cut my own hair' club!
@@Clarkscondensed 😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you for doing this video. As we are in lockdown here in the UK I just purchased clippers that arrived today so now I will see if I can do as well as you did.
since we live so far out from the nearest place to get haircuts i've always trimmed it up to stretch out trips but never risked doing the whole head. with this virus going on that's where i was at today, shaggy and needing help. i wasn't sure about which direction to cut or if to use a different size for different parts. plus like you i have a giant cowlick in back. just finished up and i was nervous at first but it turned out just fine. i had my other half check it out from all sides and she said it didn't look like i cut it, a good thing. thanks much for the vid!
So glad it was helpful! I think a lot of people are finding themselves in the same boat!
Good instruction, great head of hair! Thanks. Your lovely personality shines through. (Your child watching in the background was sweet) Peace be unto you.
WARNING: If you start trimming your hair from down to up, you'll end up with number 3 plain haircut.
If you would like to trim your hair by "yourself", you should trim it from up to down as we see in this video.
Thank you very much bro. That's the best video i've seen in a couple of days. Well done.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it.
What you mean by "down to up" 🤔 I'm actually mentally baffled by this description
@@tylerhoward6357 i'm not native i'm sorry for that, from bottom to top maybe?
Thanks so much for this video. It looks like it is going to be very helpful. Just waiting to get my clipper. Right now there seems to be a shortage of clippers. I did order a Wahl clipper and hopefully will be getting it soon. Again thanks for the video...
The best tutorial ever and yet the technique is so uncomplicated. Thank you!!! I’ve tried this yesterday successfully.
Awesome haircut 👏👏👏👏.
Works PERFECTLY FOR ME!!! I have the same type of hair like the guy in the video!!! Only the back and edging around might be tricky, the rest is super easy following the video!! Basically Ive done everything with the guards: no. 8, no. 6 , no. 3, no guards.
For a straight cut in back at the bottom of your hair line, if you have a strip of flexible foam that comes in rolls, I use a 1 to 2" thick strip about 2" wide x 5" long, and place it across where you want to cut, it helps with an even cut. I have the same Whal clipper set purchased about 8 years ago, with longest attachment is the 1" #8. I've only cut my hair a few times and used scissors on top. This video give me a good idea of how it will look at #8 length. Thanks!
This was really helpful for me when I was working up the nerve to cut my own hair since barber shops in my area are still closed. I used the #4 as my shortest and worked down from there and I'm shocked to say that I'm happy with the results. So much so that I may just start cutting my own from here on out.
I'm excited to see that you're happy with the results. The first cut is always the hardest!
Beats waiting at the hair salon or barber. And now they want us to wear masks. No thanks, I'll do it myself then.
Look great, I’ll give it a go too! Thanks
Clippers are ordered, I'm going with your system when I get them in a few days. I've allready resigned to the idea I'm going to make a mistake and be bold for some time. Anything better is a win in my book :)
Excelent tutorial for a easy hair cut wiht clippers , will try this afternoon for a first time, was a thinking years ago, but did not have the decision made. very good explanation and so easy to understand.
I have been cutting my hair for 6 years now. Its a good life skill. The salons are closed until then. I have. Cut my hair. Before this started. When the salons open up im going to get a haircut. Either a fade or crew cut. I will get a 4mm on top then zero back n sides. I will hope it will open up
I just gave myself that exact haircut you mentioned after watching this video. My first time doing it, and it turned out just fine. Kinda shocked actually. Especially getting the fade right.
Good tutorial for beginners.I looked at loads this is the best he is a normal guy like most. No playing around thank you Daniel london
Thanks, Daniel. We appreciate you watching and are glad you found it helpful!
youre an inspiration to all of us who have hair cut phobia
Awesome attempt bro. Definitely will help someone out.
As a barber, I would say just learn a little about the maintenance which is important but good REAL HOME SITUATION tutorial.
Good tutorial, thanks much!
You definitely won the best beauty contest here on CZcams man! Thanks for the tutorial, time to cut my little brothers hair😂😂
this was definitely the best self haircut tutorials I've seen, exactly what I was looking for to do my husband's hair with an all-over clipper cut! With absolutely no prior experience, you made it not only simplified, but the end result was so professional looking! Thank you very much!!
The best video ever, thanks a lot.
Those are beautiful Wahl hair clipper guards; they have guards for the left ear & the right ear :-)
Great Job Clark I learnt a lot from your video thank you.
Pretty impressive. Thanks for sharing
Really good tutorial .. it worked for me
Very down to earth helpful video
Very good! Thanks!
I see it. Thanks. Sold out on Amazon of course.
GREAT! Thank you!!
What a nice guy, thx
tysm, cut my hair today and it turned out pretty well, ill keep getting better as I go. Gonna ask a friend to fix up the back hairline though, was a little difficult for me haha
Thank you so much. Your video is easy to follow and nice hair style
Brilliant, thanks for sharing.
Very cool.. I'm still leading up to trying this. Your hair came out good.
Awesome. Thanks only video I can find to show me how to cut the entire head with clippers.
Glad you liked it!
Thanx so much. Been putting this off for over a mont now.☺️
I new cut can feel great!
You seem like a really nice man. Thanks for the video.
This was great! Thank you! I'm not doing it on myself, but a lot of the other ones were really intimidating.. and I don't want to leave my boyfriend with something where we'd have to shave it all off.
Gonna give it a go!
Update: I NAILED IT AND HE LOOKS AWESOME!
Excellent tutorial. Have already purchased clippers, but up to now, very nervous about using them! Not any more. Many thanks. Ian, Winchester UK
My clippers arrived today. Like you, nervous about that first step, but I look like a damned Yeti and it's driving me crazy. Even though our UK hairdressers open on 4th July, getting a slot will be near impossible until August.
Good job. Thank you ☺️
Use a big hand mirror they really work well. I’ve done mine this way since I was a teenager in the 70’s. Good tutorial.
Very good !!!
I found that using a good size hand mirror and having the back of your head towards the bathroom mirror makes it a lot easier to trim the back.
He shown the awesome simple way :)...
I normally start at the back of the neck and work my way up, leaving the top at the very end; I'm not always entirely happy with the results. Next time I'll start at the top and gradually go down the back and sides, lowering the guard numbers like you do here and see if I can get a better haircut that way.
Great video and good haircut👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I think it came out great!
Great stuff ! Shows me what to expect as I am about to attempt cutting with electric clippers .
No barber's here 'till July !
Ain't waiting that long .
Same here...JULY!!! LA area??
July! HAH!
Wow! Your haircut looks Super-Great!
Thanks for the (Lasson/tips).
(Two-Thumbs-Way-Up)-!
dude, hair cut technique is tight, your girl is on point....you guys still together? but your cut is perfect bro!!
good video, your hair looks nice and fresh after you cut it. good job.
Thanks. I've cut my own for a couple decades, used to just shave with no gaurd, leaving stubble and then a razor on the sides over the ears to above my eyebrows.
Then eventually I started cutting it about the length you have, but just using 3 sizes of guards. I'm near sighted and wear glasses, which is a pain when trying to see to cut and the glasses ear piece getting in the way on the sides. So I use a wall mirror at the end of my hall I can get right up next to and a hand held mirror in my left hand so I can stand back to the hall mirror and reflect the hall mirror onto the handheld to see the back of my head and a better view of the sides.
I haven't been doing the v when cutting & am going to try that. I'd like it to turn out as well as possible, but really don't care too much, as I have social anxiety, live alone and just wear a hat when I go out most the time anyway. Since I'm a really short male, I know people just see me as a joke to look at anyway & aren't going to show anymore respect regardless of what my hair, clothes or anything else looks like. So it's just for my own comfort. Thanks again for the video demo though, it's much appreciated.
That was a great video...you definitely look better with shorter hair. I cut mine to a #2 or #1 usually...
impressive!
#2 awesome thanks for showing
You’re so cute. My son has hair just like yours. Gonna give it a try. Thanks!
