My favorite.
I cry every time when I hear this song. It reminds me when I was little boy on Okinawa island. My mother sang this song so I will never forget the sole of the Island. Yes I miss Okinawa, some day I will return to Okinawa as a Man.
We just recorded it in our studio - czcams.com/video/GhIA3Sp4h6c/video.html
I didn't know much about Okinawa music, and I love this song ! Lot of emotion going through !
this is what the Uchinanchu spirit of Yuimaaru looks like! Hawai`i Uchinanchu & Friends rallied together to fundraise for the Jikoen Hongwanji, a predominantly Uchinanchu (Okinawan)-American Buddhist Temple (Jodo Shinshu: Japanese Pure Land Buddhism) in the historical immigrant neighborhood of Kalihi in urban west Honolulu- and this was the fruit of their Aloha: a music video of a beloved song passed down from generation to generation, to be sold locally to help sustain the aging temple in extremely expensive Hawai`i, particularly a stair lift for our kupuna elders who cannot make it up the stairs to the temple anymore. Kudos to Chantel Ikehara, Shelby Oshiro & Travis Oshiro of Urizun Hawai`i Minyo Kyokai for demonstrating Uchinanchu gukuru by taking this initiative to organize this music fundraiser, stepping up by example for the millennial generation, and giving back to the temple/Sangha Uchinanchu community that gave then so much growing up, they had to give back!
Thank you “uchinanju”, I do believe my aunt is a member of “Jikoen Hongwangi”. Many thanks for the your heartfelt comments.
So special and beautiful!
What a fantastic collaboration of community Uchinanchus getting together to sing "Tinsagu Nu hana" an Okinawan children's lullabye. It is much appreciated.
Uchinanchu faces and soul. Greetings from Peru, haisai!
Maravilhosamente divinal.

Tinsagu nu hana ya
Just as my fingernails
Chimisachi ni sumiti
Are stained with the pigment from balsam flowers
Uya nu yushigutu ya
My heart is painted
Chimu ni sumiri
With the teachings of my parents
Tin nu muribushi ya
Although the stars in the sky
Yumiba yumarishi ga
Are countable
Uya nu yushigutu ya
The teachings of my parents
Yumiyanaran
Are not
Yuru harasu funi ya
Just as ships that run in the night
Ninufabushi miati
Are guided to safety by the North Star

Who gave birth to me and watch over me
Takaradama yati n
There's no point in possessing magnificent jewelry
Migakaniba sabisu
If you don't maintain it
Asayu chimu migachi
People who maintain their bodies
Uchi yu watara

Makutu suru hitu ya
The desires of the person who lives sincerely
Atu ya ichi madi n

She will prosper
Nashiba nangutu n
You can do anything
Nayurugutu yashi ga
If you try
Nasanu yui kara du
But you can't
Naranu sadami If you don't

Balsam Flowers (Chinsagu Nu Hana)
Just as my fingernails are dyed with the pigment from balsam flowers,
my heart is dyed with the teachings of my parents.
Although one may be able to count the galaxies in the sky,
the teachings of my parents cannot.
Just as the ships that run in the night are guided to safety by the north star,
I am guided by my parents who birthed me and watch over me.
Just as there is no point in owning splendid jewelry if you will not maintain it,
human beings who maintain their body-minds will live life wonderfully.
The wishes of those who live sincerely always come true and they prosper.
You can do anything if you try,
but you cannot if you do not.
