I've taken up the task of restoring many old Indian films in poor quality, particularly those in the public domain. These videos stand out for their better quality, maintaining the original aspect ratio and avoiding any cropping or stretching of video frames.
On Meena Kumari's 89th birth anniversary sharing a beautiful song picturised on her. This rare version of 'Ab kya misal doon', perhaps, would have been the first appearance of Meena Kumari in colour on celluloid. Bless your eyes with the exquisite countenance of Meena Kumari as the coordination of a silken voice embellished with expressive words mingled with a mellifluous melody complement each other and brings out the magic.
Towards the late 1960s, the film circle of Bombay (now Mumbai) started taking advantage of colour technology to a great extent. Time was not far when films were going to be completely shot in colour but, before this, many songs came during the transition phase that spread their colourful hues for a few moments in an entirely B&W film. For instance, the tour de force of Mughal-E-Azam (1960), 'Jab pyar kiya to darna kya', or the vaudeville 'Eeena meena deeka' from Asha (1957), or the ineffable saga of beauty 'Chaudvin ka chand' were shot in colour. Such songs became highlight of their respective films and played a major role in the success of these films.
P.S. - Hitherto I couldn't find any decent quality of this version of 'Ab kya misal doon'. Here I've tried to improve the sound, visuals, and the audio-video sync. The initial 12 seconds were missing so I filled that portion with a colourised closeup of Meena Kumari from the song 'Aapne yaad dilaya'. I hope you all will like my efforts in improving the extant of this beautiful song. Enjoy and DO SHARE this lovely song.
