  • Yamaha Tracer 7 probably one of the most overlooked motorcycles in the Yamaha lineup. This motorcycles are not available in some countries, including Japan. So let's take a look what is good about this bike.

this bike is for Yamaha, what the CB500X is for honda- nothing special on paper, but so much greater than the sum of its parts. It's not the quickest bike in its class, its not the most well equipped in terms of tech, but as a complete package, it's excellent. CP2 engine matched to a good chassis and geat weight distribution makes for a really planted, confidence inspiring ride. Fueling is spot on with no software to interfere with rider input Traction control is by feel. The screen doesn't suit everybody but I didn't find it intrusive or unduly loud at highway speeds. If Yamaha were to update the bike I'd suggest satnav, tool-free preload adjuster for the rear suspension and maybe develop the elastomer for the footpeg mounting brackets and handlebar mounts (or fit heavier bar weights). The vibrations are perfectly acceptable and not intrusive (it's a parallel twin after all) but could be improved. Some moan about the absence of cruise control, but that would mean replacing traditional throttle cable with ride by wire, which takes away from the purity and simplicity of this bike. A Kaoko could be a factory option on the GT. the passenger grab rails could be made to be a continuous loop, instead of the 'prongs' the bike has now. A small but important feature if fitting throwover panniers. for solo touring. All in all, anyone thinking about purchasing a bike in this light/middleweight category would be wise to take one for a test ride. It's very easy to get along with, unintimidating for newer riders, but if you want to ring it's neck, it'll reach licence -losing speeds very easily, with no complaints from the chassis, suspension or engine. Sub 200kgs makes this the lightest in class fully fueled. It's not as frenetic as it's naked MT07 stablemate and that's the whole point of this bike. Easy in town, fine on the highway, a weapon in the mountains and twisties. Ohlins factory suspension can only make a great handling bike even better. If this bike had cruise control you could steer the bike with your toes.....😀

Billy, agree on everything you said. This bike is exactly that! I think apple CP or android auto is all it needs. Everything else is pretty much great for what this bike is meant to be :)

Just traded in my Cb500x to buy Tracer7 GT. I think the Tracer is a bit better imho

I like your honest and down to earth talk on this bike. Will look to your other video on the negatives of the tracer.
I'm currently driving, what was initially only my wifes bike, the yamaha MT-07. I love the character of the bike, I'm communiting with it mainly. I'm looking the the next bike, always looked to bigger or way different bikes, but I like the MT-07 so much, I might go for the Tracet 7 GT. Looking to some more comfort on longer trips (MT-07 on the highway can be exhausting after few hours).

    Great video Sergey,
Very interested to see your next video with what you may don't like about it 🤔

Good review/first impression. I have this bike since oktober 2023 and can fully agree with you on your thoughts about the bike. I found the screen a bit too low, so I upgraded it with a Puig touringscreen, and put on Daytona heated grips, with integrated switch in the rubber part. Soo no extra bulky switch. I changed from regular fuel to high octane and my average consumption dropped from 1:23,5 to 1:25,2 and the bike runs a bit smoother. Not much, but after 4000 k I feel a slight difference.

My opinion after 16.000 km in 3 months with Yamaha Tracer 7 2024:
Pros: The engine gives you the feel of power
This bike is light (194 kg wet) and feels light
    Is very maneuverable
    The engine sounds quite well
It looks fine (more a sports bike than a tourer)
Some of these cons are personal preferences based on my style of riding (more sportive)
    Cons:
Suspensions (front and back) are not fully configurable! You have only preload and rebound and no option for compression settings.
Suspensions on a bumpy road become a nightmare (in my opinion) because of the lack of access to compression settings (1.83 m and 90 kg)
Because of this behavior (suspensions), the bike starts to become a little unstable at high speed when you need to brake aggressively or lean.
The brakes are not weak, but they are also not strong enough for acceleration that you can obtain from this bike between 0-150 km/h
Downshifting is quite "brutal" if is done without a rev-match...you can easily skid if you are not careful.
Because the engine braking is very powerful, you need to work a lot with the clutch lever, and the clutch behavior just doesn't feel good (I don't know how to explain this in English, sorry). Also, when you are leaning hard in a curve because the engine is powerful and the throttle response is not smooth, you really need to mitigate this with the clutch, and it is not easy.
Even with all these cons, I still really love this bike and enjoy riding this bike! ... avoid bumpy roads
    PS:
I will not recommend this bike as a first bike for a beginner

Great Video Sergey. From personal experience which bike will you recommend to a new biker, for daily commute and short trips ( 2-3 hours) to the country side. Tracer 7 or Tracer 9?

That is very interesting question. I thought that it can be easy to answer, but it is not. I probably won't advice Tracer 9 for a new rider, even though it has very good safety electronics. On the other hand Tracer 7 is super easy to operate with, but can be tricky for new riders as it doesn't have much of supportive electronics. Probably Tiger 660 or 850 would be a better choice, but a bit more pricy to run. I'll try to make a video with this topic.

Hi Sergey, what is your hight and weight. Just wondering, as I'm 183 cm and 112kg. Will have to take it out for a ride from the dealer. Thanks for the review.

Hi Sergey, I am going to buy Tracer 7 GT and I am living in Germany. Is the power enough for traveling in europe? I really like this motorcycle but I am not sure is it suitable when it comes to engine power for Europe? I don't have much experiences and also I am new in the Europe, that's why I am asking. Thank you
