It's really a hidden gem. I'm a very experienced rider. Nearly 1 million km. I bought it 2 years ago and I did about 37.000 Km on it. From Bavaria down to Greece and Morocco. Several times down to southern France and Croatia. No issues at all. Easy to manoeuvre. Comfortable for smaller Riders like me. I changed the handguards and I put on a Puig screen (higher temperatures down south).
PS: I trust this wonderful engine. My older MT-07 has now 107.000 Km on the clock.❤

Is it easy to install bar muffs without blocking the indicators? Can the hand guards be taken off for fitting them? That's the only thing that's problematic about this bike for me..

I’ve had a 7gt for about 18 months now. I agree with your review. It’s a great bike at a good price. I ride mostly 2-up and there is ample performance. We’ve had a lot of bikes in the last 32 years, including an FJR, and this is one of the best. P.S. Your winter riding looks spot-on…👍

698 cc and 73.41 BHP Not bad. Looks nice too. Thanks :) For some reason I cannot remember during the video I was triggered into remembering a story about a guy who got a letter from a solicitor concerning a bequest left to him by an uncle. It was a Harley Davidson. He didn't even like motorcycles much. Anyway he accepted the arrival time and put it in his garage. Sometime later he got curious about the bike, so he inspected it as best he could and found some obvious problems requiring spares, so he rang Harley with the relevant Ser and vin numbers to order the correct parts. A short while later he was contacted by Harley UK and they asked him to check the numbers, he did. Then another short time later he was contcted again, only this time it was an American accent, who asked him, yet again to check the numbers and have a look in a certain place for anything else. He did, although getting fed up ! In the other place described he found a plaque which said "This bike was presented to Jim Morrison, signed Elvis Presley, 195(?)". When he related this over the phone he could hear the cheering in the background. Harley had been looking for this particular bike for years. They invited him and his family over, with the bike, while he watched on the assembly line a bike being mad for him to own privately, with his name on a plaque, where the other one he'd seen was. They had a great time, were looked after very well and returned to England with his very own Harley ! RESULT !!! Source ? Sandy Toksvig on an LBC program, I forget when, bout 10 years ago maybe more !

What a great package that bike is:
Light, powerful enough for spirited riding and keeping up with your mates, good weather protection and integrated luggage.
The CP2 is a legendary engine and I have no doubt the bike will handle very well.
Above all, the light weight of the Tracer 7 is its main advantage; hauling around a bigger bike can detract from the ride by added fatigue.
A hidden jem in the Yamaha range for sure - thanks for pointing this one out 👍

Just bought a used one, but the previous model, love it,in the past had several versys 650's but this blows them away in almost all areas, minimal rider aids is a plus ! Simplicity is the key,i use a throttle lock for cruise control tho and works fine, plenty of power, handles n stops well, whats not to like and of course its Japanese so it will run almost forever.

Hi Kate, another great review. We rented a 2023 Tracer 700 in Tenerife recently, it was a great bike for us ( 2 up) and despite the roads being twisty and a little challenging it preformed well. We were tempted to get a bigger bike like a Africa Twin or a GS before we arrived but was so pleased that we didn't given how technical the roads were in places. The Tracer was perfect. Great bike and possibly could be ridden on an A1 licence so expect that will appeal to alot of folk.

I passed my mod 2 at the start of November. I rode a Tracer 7 and 9 back to back and the 9 just fit me better and I liked the power delivery from the motor more. The suspenesion on the Tracer 9 was also more sophisticated over the bumps than the 7 which felt crashy to me. I would have been more than happy with a Tracer 9 but in the end I got a Triump Tiger 900 GT Pro because that was in the mix to and I got a cracking deal on one. I'm not a fan of the dash on the old Tracer 9 but the new ones have a proper TFT. I'm very happy with my Triumph but the Yamaha offerings were a serious contendor.

I've got the Tracer 9 GT 2021. Had the MT-09 Tracer 2016 which was amazing but the new ones to me are shockingly bad for suspension and badly made parts. My left indicator broke off weeks after buying it going over a bad pothole. Literally a tiny bit of plastic holds them in place....Yamaha Wigan refused to replace it. I won't be buying one ever again.

Hiya and thanks for reviewing the bike 😊
I bought mine in July 2022 and have managed to put 12,000 miles on it so far. I am lucky enough to live in the Highlands, so I tend to mainly use it for days out all around me.
I have also taken it to the Netherlands this year to visit friends, and honestly, the only thing I miss is cruise control.
I have had an issue with the headlight module, which prevented me from using the main beam. This was fixed under warranty without issue. Recently, the Yamaha heated grips have stopped working, so I need to pop back into my dealer for them to have a look for me. I'm 6'1", 21stone and fit the bike well, even managing to stand up on the pegs whilst riding to reduce the old butt/leg fatigue 😂
Cannot rate the bike, or the Yamaha dealership highly enough.

I am looking forward for your next video of this bike. Such a super easy video and down to earth review. Wonderful. Quality of the video could be better although.
I installed heated grips from Daytona. They work perfectly and don't have an extra ugly cluster for heat selection. Just a small switch embedded in the rubber of the grip and a small light with different colors for different levels of comfy warmth. And I have the Puig screen. Works perfectly and looks way better then the ugly Yamaha touring screen. And the sh58x adjustable top box, with loads of space if you need it, even for two big helmets, and if empty, you can make it small. As far as I know, only from Shad!
(I know, BMW also has that, but they are developed and produced by Shad also)
I bought the 2023 model and really love the bike, although it is my 28the bike, soo lots to compare. Its is comfy, easy handling, sharp steering, good suspension, good brakes, better then the previous model, and with the Puig screen also super comfortable and without wind buffeting on higher speeds. The CP2 engine is a jewel. It "only" has 72 Hp and 67 Nm, but it feels much much stronger. I even don't miss engine power compared to my FJR1300. And that is a fast sporty tourer.
I am afraid this tracer 7 is my best, most fun producing bike I ever had. I wonder what your opinion will be with more time to spend on this bike.

@@martinrea8548 I have riden 2000 km's now and my average comsumption is 4,3l/100km. The tracer 9 wil use nearly 5,1l/100km. On one tank of fuel, both wil run about 360 km's. So not a big difference. The 9 has a slightly bigger fueltank.
With the inst. fuel use on your dash, you can see that driving 140 km/h or 120 km/h wil make a big difference in fuelconsumption.
The calm sound of the cp2 or the revving sound of the cp3 make me accelerate much more on the cp3. With the tracer 7 I have noticed I drive a lot more relaxed.

Was hoping to fit the C/C from McCruise, but Suzuki have brought out that RE,and it appeals to my short legs(spent an hour on the floor at the NEC looking all over it), so i might curtail the spending on it...nice to see Yamaha copied my paint scheme, though i've black nitrided fork tubes and black wheels on the current one! Re quickshifter, it is wired for that (the extra wire accessory to make it work is about£150, but I didn’t bother). Very eco (over 200 miles on a tank). Brilliant reserve tank miles-meter which means you can go about 60 miles when ‘empty’ but that is nice to have even if not used. Excellent and fast, love it. SC

And we have Nemunu bags on the back of ours which is like a pillion passenger with no upper body, it's the most wonderful moto luggage and wonderful company we highly recommend for riders who love a trip!! Great video. Love our Yamaha's. ❤

Great news because both my bikes are Yamaha. Quick question is the screen adjustable and is it shaft driven??
Both my bikes are old because I don’t have much money but I’m thinking next year I might see what I can get if I trade them in for one new bike. Keep safe. 🤗🤗🤗

Hey Kate! So glad you've got this bike for an extended test. I'm in the market for a new(er) bike (maybe even an unthrashed ex-demo from Paddock 😉) to replace my CB 500 X. To be fair, it's been an excellent, faultless bike but I want something with a little more pep, with a view to doing some pootle touring in Europe next year. The CB could do it no problem but there's pootling and there's pootling...would really like your thoughts on the suspension (for typically shite UK B roads) and if you get the chance, the handling when loaded? Wind protection is subjective, but rumour has it, it's not that great even with the bigger screen, but the same can be said for most 'upright' sports tourers/adv bikes in this price range. CP2 engine should be plenty for me. would also appreciate your thoughts compared to the new Transalp. you didn't seem that enthusiastic when you test rode that, but maybe your were just a bit grumpy😟

We've heard of it....but we don't get it over here in N America. You guys are LUCKY! Yamaha don't seem to think that the N American market is ready for a mid range, sub 100hp sport tourer....meanwhile, Suzuki is selling all the VStrom 800s they can & Kawasaki keeps knocking out Versys 650LTs all day long. It really defies all logic that they should ignore this sector of the market, they sell the R7/XSR7/MT07 alongside the CP3 & CP4 bikes, so why no Tracer 7? If I had the chance I'd import one myself, but its too difficult to get it legally registered.

This ticks all of the boxes for me, apart from the lack of traction control. I know a lot of people think that it doesn't have enough power to need it, but from my point of view is that it's a safety feature, and in this day and age switchable traction contol should be fitted as standard to all bikes. If they released a 7 GT with traction I would be down the dealers on the next free monday.

I think on a bike with this sort of power output, traction control isn't a necessity. Great tyres and half-decent suspension helps. I think switchable TC is a feature on the latest Tenere so it might cross over on to the Tracer in due course.

    • @chrishart8548
      @chrishart8548 Před 8 měsíci

@@billyb6043 that's what I'm thinking it will get TC on the next model revision. I found even on a 125 I could get myself into a fair bit of trouble losing traction.. when the road surface is inconsistent good tyres will still fail you. And a lot of bikes don't have very good suspension. It's where most of the manufacturers make the cuts to keep the price.

I have a 23 plate 7 GT. I went for the heated grips also which are pretty good. I came from a 22 plate CF Moto 650MT (which I loved) but the tracer is much smaller and lighter and easier to man-handle into my garage. Someone mentioned a sore "arris" . My comfort seat suits me perfectly, done a four hour ride and no numbness at all. If only it had cruise control. CF moto can knock out their 700 adventure with it as standard so Yamaha should be able to get it added without bumping the price. I think a lot of bikes in this category lack cruise control, seems mad.

the physical size and weight of a bike makes a massive difference to ease of ownership, especially when you're no longer a testosterone-filled youth! Reviews concentrate on power, handling and gadgets but rarely consider what a bike's actually like to push around, park up, put on the stand. Some of the Chinese bikes are giving the usual suspects a run for their money but how they bear up after a few years is still a concern for me (rightly or wrongly).

Great review Kate. Talking of other Yamahas to review, will you be riding the XSR900GP? I saw your joint review with Ruby Rides of the Triumph 1200 RR and RS Speed Triples and I'm in the same camp as you regarding the comfort issues with the RR.
I'm not keen on the looks of the naked XRS900 retro but this GP version is more appealing if it is all-day rideable. Litre supersports bikes don't do much for me because I only ride on the road and they're just frustrating because you can use so little of their performance. I'd rather have a supernaked. But a mid-range 900cc road sports bike like the GP might be a perfect compromise if has genuine sports bike handling and it is comfortable enough to be practical.
I'm a fair bit taller than you but it would be interested to know your thoughts as I share the same aches and pains concerns.
