I'm English as is my dad. My dad was a big Maradona fan. I got into him through a documentary my dad had of him before Italia 90 which was the 1st world cup I ever watched. I was watching England & Argentina throughout it & when Argentina was in the final hoped they'd win! Felt for him being kicked out of usa 94. My dad has obviously gone to watch messi. I was in a bar on holiday tonight and this song came on and literally only know it though this footage thanks to my dad! Whatever you think of him he was a damn good player & his passion for football never goes away. I was laughing my head off at him in the crowds watching the world cup in 2018! Ps between him and getting into Roberto Baggio after 1990 world cup I got into the Italian league not English!! Despite this I'm not a religious football or sport fan but I'd even be impressed to ever meet Maradona! I got my dad a no10 Argentina shirt from an English sports shop once and the shopkeeper shouted about it across the shop asking for the price I cringed! I was waiting for a hurl of abuse!!

I knew about Maradona before I knew what he looked like. He was a legend, a myth in syria where I grew up. I remember watching this video 12 years a go when I first moved to Canada I was a kid and finally getting to see what maradona looked like was a huge deal for me. Me and my brother went and bought an orange football right after and tried juggling the ball like him.

A man who didn't have to come from what country you're from to inspire a whole generation, define and motivate even during an era where the Ballon D'Or was only awarded to those who were European. Now just imagine if at the time the Ballon D'or could've been given to non-Europeans? He is now with God.
