I would rate it:
Yes!
My rating knob is turned up to 11!
This Renown is 10/10!! Amazing sound, beautiful lacquer finish, and a shallower kick drum depth than the usual 18" depth which is nice. I may consider this as an option for an upgrade/alternative to what I have now!!
Need more drums in this finish....get with your people at DW...10/10

Nick is so good on a set of drums. It's so easy to watch him play, I could watch all night.
The best part ab out Nick, he doesn't have an ego trip on anything he does.
Sweetwater, thank you for giving him work so he doesn't end up under the Brooklyn Bridge in a tent chugging Thunderbird White Port wine !!!
Who else comes here just to see nicks playing. I mean the kit is nice too
I can always tell how great a kit is by how much fun nick is having
C.W. I've been a drummer for the past 63 years. Big band, jazz, modern rock and country. My Dad was also the drummer and owner of a Big band in the 1930 to 1960's era. I played Slinger land drums and Ludwig drums , finally bought my 1st Gretsch 1965 round badge 3piece kit. After that I never looked back! 40 years with that kit , now 15 years on my 2nd USA Custom kit still love the Gretsch drums. Yeah!
Legend!!... I hope to be an old man and still rock like you. My respect from Chile sir.
@@ZetroDrummer just a cool đ thank you for the accolades, I feel blessed to have listened to my Dad to put my heart and soul into the music, and learned to be a great listener and a solid time keeper, cause all the fancy stuff doesn't work if the musicians you play with don't have a solid clean drummer to enjoy playing along with. Thanks đ Charlie M.
Love the Renown kit and now they have a 14x22 bass drum.
Been a Gretsch man for the last 15 years and the fact that this is a lacquer and not a nasty wrap is a deal maker! Not only that, but you get USA Custom grade manufacturing minus the price.
A great deal all around!
What cymbals are the best I havenât played in 20 years
@@netmtp33 honestly, all cymbals from major companies are all excellent, itâs really just up to which ones you like the sound of the best, in my opinion the âbestâ are meinl and paiste with their byzance and signature lines
The Renown wraps are anything but nasty. Quite the opposite.
One reason why the Renown is really good is because itâs made in Taiwan. Drum factories in Taiwan have a history of excellence. I think it probably started with Pearl drums years ago when Pearl was making them in Taiwan.
Said no one ever.
Nothing beats built in USA

GRETSCH
Love the color, and the 14x22 virgin kick!
I have the Renown kit (5-pc) 2-up-1-down with a 22 inch kick and I have to say that it is hands down the best kit I have ever owned. I won't bore you with the kits that I have owned in the past but the Gretsch Renown line of drums are the real deal!
Hi, đWhat kits did you have ?
@@vibes..585 I still have a 6-pc Mapex Storm kit. It was made for beginners but I have Remo pinstripe heads on the toms and the kit sounds really good. I also have a Roland TD-1 and I just got the Roland TD-17kvx. The Mapex kit and the TD-1 are for sale but I'm keeping the Renown kit and the TD-17kvx.
I just ordered this plus the snare. Thank you 48 month financing!
You have the best job in the world Nick! Killer kit!
The snare drum has such a beautiful sounding crack to it. Love it!!!
This is some of the best playing Nick D' has put down on any of the videos. Drums sound fantastic, including that snare !
have you seen his recent Club Jam Flyer vid and Mapex Saturn Evolution ones? Those two he just kills!
These are end game drums. Top tier and really all you need in life
Theyâre nice, but I would not go that far
Nick, you're a bad ass dude! Sweetwater's secret weapon.
Nick is a very happy drummer!
Excellent drumming, brother. Killed it.
I'd like to see more 14x22 bass drum options. Take me back to the '70's.
Gorgeous, sounds amazing
Most drum solos have little to say; Nick tells a great story. Love the kit!
Man, what I wouldn't give for a few hours of Nick just playing. Any kit he wants, any cymbals, just practicing or playing around or whatever.
Nick, your playing is over the top bro! Awesome .....
Man that guy is good! Love the set too!
Nice kit!
Just purchased this awesome Gretsch Kit! đđđđđđđ
These drums look and sound fantastic! I played a Renown 2 that was set up at a music store and the sound is just something special. This finish makes me even more curious about picking one up. Ala that great Gretsch sound!
Beautiful kit, and well done video demo. Great playing Nick.
Nick is great. Love his drumming.
I am one person that does not appreciate that great gretsch sound
They say you either get it or you donât and I definitely donât
What don't you like about it?
Nick is the best.... Thanks Sweetwater!!!!
Nick D can make any drum kit sound fantastic,, great looking set ,,BTW...
You guys should post which mics are being used in these recordings. Would love to know how these were recorded, which mics, pres, etc
Watching Nick play, makes me want to buy a new set...
You have such an awesome job, Nick!
I honestly do not know if I watch these videos for the drums, or to see Nick play.
Sheeeeeeesh he smashed that intro!!!! Yeah the drums are nice too! Lol
I've wanted them to make a 22/14 renown for sooo long
That is the sexiest looking and sounding drum set Iâve ever seen/heard
Beautiful Finish.... Beautiful Sound. and the drumming didn't suck either. lol
Great review Nick! Your playing and attitude make for a very listenable vid (on my AirPods)
As always a great review, Nick!
what really surprised me is how much tone is retained in the floor toms, dont hear that too often
Sounds and looks great !
I love watching nick play. His hands say experienced pro, but his face always looks like he's surprised he just played that
Perfect mid priced drum kit
Why pay $4000 or more for the top of the line stuff
Great job Nick đ„đđșđžđ
Because the top of the line stuff actually sounds good
The 12 inch is tuned a tad high. Sounds fine. Would love to hear it tuned down a bit tho. They are all tuned a little bit high. Tune those toms down and lets hear them rattle with big sound.
Great sound and finish!
Thanks for such a great video. Awesome stuff.
I want to get these drums, paiste signature symbol pack, and the 10 inch tama metalworks steel drum. Their is also a yamaha recording mic thing that's around 500 bucks. I want to get recording I'm 16 and have been playing drums since I was about 4 and I started taking it really seriously around 3 years ago. This is what I think would best fit my playing style for not too expensive. Rn my set up is a vintage ludwig set 12 13 16 18 22 14. And some old vintage cymbals a 22 ride, b20 crash and a piaste 16 rude crash and a 14 bottom piaste high hat I use as a crash cuz my old one broke it was a b20 crash ride. I live my current set up but it's somewhat uncomfortable I cant get it dialed right and it takes constant care because the drums are so old. I'm always fixing a problem. Cant wait to get this setup.
Lmao 18 now coming back and seeing this made me realize how easy i thought it was. And how fucking gear oriented i was i forgot about all that now im just saving up to get whatever i got a new set of zildjian a391. Saving up for a kit now. More looking for a 3 peice kit i want a bigger bass drum but idk if thats gonna happen im tryna buy something under 1,000. Maybe this summer ill go full time flipping burgers and do it.
so cool love to have one like that
I heard the broadcaster and loved it
damn that's beautiful - sonically and aesthetically. it's getting pretty hard to justify spending more these days...there's a few great kits that just happen to be affordable.
Iâm a Gretsch guy myself! I own 4 Renowns my latest was purchased one year ago RN2âs .Beautiful kit!!!! My question is how will this Orange Sparkle hold up? I know there was problems with the Turquoise Sparkle and the Copper Sparkle thatâs why they were discontinued. And I wanted a Turquoise Sparkle so bad. But I got a Silver Oyster instead. Happy with it! But this Orange Sparkle is Beautiful!!!!!
What was the issue with the turq and Copp sparkle?
The turquoise and copper sparkle were a lacquer finish and were not holding up, paint was cracking and coming off is what I was told by Mike Beers Gretsch/DW Rep.
Great drums! It's a daring, but very useful configuration. No 10 inch tom? No problem.
Im not a fan of the sliver slealer but they definitely sound and look killer.
love those steve gadd sticks.
I really do wish Gretsch would produce 22x14 as standard instead of the unnecessary 18â depth.
@j s many people do want deep kicks though, I for one would love 24âx20â deep bass drums
I love this set so much... That I paid $500 more to get it in black. I kind of like the orange sparkle, but it's a studio kit and it needed to match the studio.
Itâs beautiful
Omg.
Silver sealer!! That's been inside the drums since the 60's. I've heard that it's galvanized fence paint? I think they used it originally to hide knots inside the inner ply. And it became a sound. Ludwig painted theirs white too for a while. I think it hadose to do with cosmetic looks. But it does add something to gretschs sound.
I think these and the USA Customs are they only lines that offer it? Or do Broadkaster have too?
Just my personal thing for Gretsch drums in particular....don't record the kick with a beta 52 on it, use the 52 for the floor toms, and use a D112 for the kick! It will cut more and sound less muddy!
NDV You da man!đđŻ
Very, very, nice.
When can we get a demo of the Ludwig classic oaks? There's next to nothing about them on the internet.
They are the same as the Keystones
@@spencersher66 the shells are both maple/oak but the hardware and configurations are different between them.
If it were blue...I'd buy it
Hey Nick, great playing. What cymbals did you use in this video? Thanks!
Sounds so much better than DW
đ
Nick, can you give us an idea of how you tuned these drums for this video?
When they hired Nick it was the best choice they ever made!
Just curious (since I'm sorta lookin' for a different kit), can this gorgeous kit be purchased with a 14x20 kick? I love the color, and the only other kit I've seen anything even similar to (color-wise), is from Yamaha (Absolute series). I've been considering Gretsch RN2's anyway. Thanks!
I am fortunate to have an absolute maple and oak custom in habanero sparkle. I never thought I would see another kit in production with a painted finish thatâs so similar. This is great!
Think youâre going to make me sell my current RN2s for this
Hey Nick D, I really enjoyed the way the Gretsch burnt orange Renown kit sounds good except a couple things. 1st thing, eliminate the ring on the snare , over tones R terrible just like fingernails on a chalk board. 2nd , it would be great if you could play the virgin bass drum minus the extreme damping and the bloody hole in the resonant head. Please play it as it comes out of the box for the full Gretsch sound. Other than that Great job đ on the drumming! Charlie M.
How much do they cost? I know you said you can add an 8x10 but can you also get a 7x8 tom too. They sound great.
List is $1599...looks like you are limited to the 10x7 as an add on. Still a great kit.
10/10 đđđ
Kick drum punches like tyson
Sounds gorgeous.. but that k crash sounds sooo good!!! What is that model? I want that exact cymbal..
19â K Dark Thin Crash
@@graytss Thank you!
Are these still available? Havenât seen one on the Sweetwater site.
Well, damn.
I met Mr. DâVirgilio!!!!!!!!!!
Hello, do you also deliver to Germany?
Hello, barney! There may be some restrictions on shipping certain gear internationally, but we'd be glad to look into it for you. When you have a moment, please give us a call at (800) 222-4700 or email us at sales@sweetwater.com. Thank you for the message!
A little low end would be nice
Theres no low end in my opinion they sound horrible which is why they cost 1500 bucks
I have heard that the copper sparkle and teal color renowns are already discontinue because of problems with the lacquer finish Im just wondering if they have corrected the problem with this finish as the other ones have been removed from the Gretsch site . Anybody Know ?
What happened with the finish?
Cotton?
I have used cotton balls. Put some inside the drum and it does add a little dampening. It's an old trick.

I donât think once mentioned the wood materials used on this kit?
Anyone?
Hello, John! Gretsch Renowns are all 7-ply maple with a 30 degree bearing edge.
Thanks for the interest!

Does anyone know where the Renown's are made?
As mentioned, Taiwan. They're exceptionally well made. Materials are first rate.
