As a Federer fan, I think Rafa deserved the reward several times. He has always shown some of the best sportsmanship of any tennis player throughout his career, not just in 2018.

For me, Rafa is THE most respectful and respectable player ever... His attitude has always been excellent towards the rules, the ball boys, the referee, his opponents and so many more... He's probably one of the only players who's never broken any racket. He never enters the court thinking about the victory because he respects every single of his opponents. He knows he can win or lose but what matters to him is to give everything out him until the last point to try to win. He never thinks he will lose until the end, he keeps fighting and that's why he's been so successful and so exciting to watch. Watching Rafa playing always makes me fascinated and emotional because he plays every ball with the same passion and intensity. Everytime he loses, he never forgets to congratulate his opponent. His willing is based on continual improvement. He recently said that he' always comes into the court with the goal to improve something because he's perfectly aware he has to add some new things to his game if he wants to keep winning as he did 10 years ago. He's very clever and that's for me THE best example for people who play tennis but also for people in general. How many 17-time Grand Slam winners would have helped people from their hometown after natural disasters? There would be so many more things to say about his behaviour...That's why he's my first inspiration as a player but also as a human being. BIG RESPECT Rafa...

He will never say things just to grab attention or is full of himself. Among the big 3 he is the only one who knows that tennis is bigger than him no matter how many records he breaks. He never accepts that he is the greatest player of all time even if he has the best track record and character on the field. You being a fan of Dustin brown q player who has built he s while identity because of that one match in Wimbledon speaks volumes of how happy you are to see Nadal defeated by some Rastafarian baaba who played weird trick shots on a lucky day. Nadal's win against Thiem at the 2018 U.S Open is one of the most satisfying matches that I have seen him play.The last point of that match shows you why Nadal tries to return everything cause you never know what will happen. More exciting than his last two FO finals cause he win those so easily and there really wasn't much suspense.Nadal's tenth FO title would have been so much sweeter to watch had it been a five set match.
Radu Goran yeah he's very awesome - he's kind, well mannered, talented and has no ego or pretentiousness, he's a real role model to all. I hope we see him still playing in the sport as long as Roger is. They are both amazing champions.

I can relate with you, except that Rafa had always been a gentleman at heart...maturity, level-headedness, respect were always apparent, even during his younger days, in the way he competed/carried himself, throwing the tennis world into awe! No wonder Fed could see a friend in Rafa [and not in Novak, per se] despite being 5 years older...he was drawn to Rafa's respectful, charismatic persona and both of them went onto form a legendary/timeless/unparalleled rivalry.

Ciclopea2 isn’t that the truth. He’s so wonderful to watch. I’ve never even watched sports until I came across the 2008 Wimbledon final while scrolling through the channels and I vaguely heard Federer’s name so I stopped to see and I was mesmerized by that match even though I didn’t even know how to keep score. Hugest fan ever since. So happy to see this tennis era.
That moment in the wimbledon sf when he lost to Novak , it was a heart breaking loss for him but he still stayed back even when the winner left the court to sign the autographs was heartwarming shows how much he respects the fan, djoker was surprised seeing the crowd cheer for nadal when he waived after the loss and left early, remember after french open loss how novak reacted, rafa is as genuine as you get and role model to all the players such a kind hearted persons shows the upbringing he has had all his years , proud to be his fan from the beginning and will be my fav no matter what

I think the great thing about this man if we just talk about on court is that he is accepting of defeat, or at least only shows that side in a very respectable way to all those with the privilege to watch him play live, but during the match he is giving everything as if his life depends on it. He can teach those tennis brats so much
