  • Well, after a little time to get the engine broken-in, the cursory fluid checks, and a tightening a few random nuts and bolts, I've got the carbs synchronized and the timing adjusted. Still have a few other things to clean up, but otherwise she's doing really well. If all goes as expected, I should be seeing somewhere in the area of 500 HP (crankshaft) at 8000 RPM and 480 HP at 7000 RPM. Put that in a 3200 Lb. car and things should get interesting really quick.
This is the first gas engine I've built in years, and short of the 1000 HP, full race Big Block Chevy I helped a friend build over 25 years ago, this is definitely the most impressive engine I've ever built. I love the look... I love the sound... And soon enough, I'm going to see how well it does on the street.
I hope you all enjoy the videos. I apologize for the narration. I should probably just shut my mouth and let the engine speak for itself.
    Thanks for watching!

Seems like Ford V-8 engines from that era sound like a tractor at idle. Then scream like a panther at high RPM. God! I love them!

Sounds like my motor, pretty nice heads, and carbs. I have a 65 casting std size A code block with J code heads, the heads have 1:94 and 1:60 Ferrea valves, net lift is .551 at the seat pocket port only with hard seats, ISKY Mega 280. First time I started it after putting the heads on(open headers), the neighbor came out got on her broom circled the house a few times, lol.... Nice build would love to see more.

for literally 3 bucks I added a neodymium magnet to the outside bottom of th e oil pan, a few years later I pulled the pan and there was a gray film of metal stuck to the inside of the pan I figure oil carried some ring shavings and also maybe some rocker arm wear and it caught it, never had any issues and raced the motor regularly , so cheap added protection , I also added a moroso accusump with a t fitting on the oil pressure sender, rigged it with a ball valve and had both a pre oiler and some added oil pressure insurance, total maybe 200 bucks,
