- Ford 289, .030" over, Diamond Racing 11.8:1 Pistons, Trick Flow Twisted Wedge 190R Aluminum Heads, Forged Crank, H-Beam Rods, Jim Inglese Weber Carbs, Hooker Super Comp Headers.
First startup today after almost 5 months of getting everything together. What an awesome feeling to finally see all the hard work coming to life. ;-)
Now to let it break in and get started on the bodywork!
Ive run and built several 289s..ive never heard one snap and rev that quick!!
That sounds amazing!!
It is responsive!
That's the nearly 12:1 comp ratio talking...
Light flywheel?
Lightweight flywheel.
@@user-us8fw6ok8y ive used those and they are great but ive never built a 289 with 13.1 compression nor used Inglese or anything like that except 2 Autolite 4bbl carbs. My Dad ground the camshafts as i switched them in and out..He was old voo-doo and black magic with camshafts way beyond anything i knew
I never had a 289 but I did have it's little brother, a 221 V8. I also had several 302's. Never owned a 260, 289, or a 351. They are all great engines. This one revs quicker than any that I have EVER heard. Awesome.
There's a reason the 289 K code motor is an international world champion.
Thank You Carroll Shelby and Shelby American. 🏆
That's the fastest sounding engine I've heard in a long time. Great job!
It is snappy!
That throttle response...just fantastic!
Healthiest engine I've heard in a very long time.
Holy CRAP!!! That sounds BAD ASS!!!
with everyone else in the US seemingly building bigger v8s all the time, its nice to see these small ones bark and BITE with the best of them. Sometimes i think 289's sound better than their larger brethren.
You are absolutely correct my friend the 289 & 302 sound way better than ANY other V8 PERIOD !! They have what Harley has .
@@jamesguidry3995 nothing can beat the sound of a good ol 302.
Jack Roush said no engine in the world sounds as good as a 289 with solids at full song.
Can always hear a Ford V8! No other sound like em'!! 😊
Amazing how many guys I know who hear the Cobra Daytona Coupe 390HP 289 and swear it's a big block!
MUSIC!!! Beautiful MUSIC!!!
My first car was a 289 hi-po T10 trans Detroit Locker rear, a 6000 RPM hit would leave an entire city block in tire smoke. With slicks it would lift the front wheels.
My classmate's Father had a Tiger II W/ 289, 4bl. and headers and he could yank the front tires up an inch or so skyward with stock tires! The car was sick and a real sleeper to the unaware!
The sound and the look is impressive, but that throttle response from a carbed engine is dead on. Excellent job!!!
I thought the same thing,amazing.
not to mention. that's ALOT of flow. Something like 1000cfm plus, on a 289ci engine. And it responds like it's a 600cfm carb.
@@zragevii4705 close to 2000cfm with all 4 carbs
@@topcan5600 The flow depends on what size chokes are in the carbs. Thats the wonderful thing about those that you can easy change the cfm and jetting. I would guess its flowing around 750-850 depending on the rpm range the engine was built for.
Those 289s are good Engines
I have always loved the 289 it revs so high and quick and has won numerous races over the competition. First time carrol shelbys 289 cobras raced a bunch of vettes the cobras left them in the dust.
Big bore, short stroke is the beginning of a recipe for high RPM and POWER!! In the 60s I had a Fairlane with a 289/2 barrel.
In the early 1970s, car manufacturers were detuning their engines for emissions and improvements in mpg. After you reversed
a detuned engine, you had an engine that was born to run. In the 1970s, I modified a 455 in my '73 Toronado, a 390 in my '72 Ford pickup and a 460 in my '77 Mark V.
Ahhh yes ! The good ol' days of push you back in your seat torque.
Wow, that sounds mean. Jim Inglese is the top Weber guy.
Best engine ever made
International World Champion.
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTT.! A SUPERBLY SET UP MOTOR, A REAL CRREDIT TO YOUR ABILITY.
THE MOUSE THAT ROARED. All read to be installed into a 1966 Mustang Fastback with a 4 speed for the road corse.
BIG COMPRESSION! 💥💥💥😎
Amazing Ford Engine
Inglese induction must be great. I will have to look it up.
Good night! that throttle response is awesome!
It is snappy.
Check the video "Shelby GT 350 Mustang Racecar Start-up" Super quick revving machine - music to anyone's ears.
what a beast!!! thanks for taking the time to do the video
I think I'm more impressed by that _engine stand_ than anything else!!! ;-)
WOW, first time fired up. Impressive FORD.. From a Chevy guy...
From me as well... these were amazing...
theres still time for u to see the light .
It don't matter if you're a Chevy guy, Or a Ford guy, as long as you're a high-performance engine enthusiast guy, that's what matters.
Sounds of excellence...so nice
That`s a mean sounding engine! Love it :))
Very nice 289 🔥
A real beauty
Very nice...I built a K code engine years ago that had 11.5:1 compression with the heads reworked to take the chevy 1.90 intake valves, running weber carbs with the Ford LeMans cam and hooker headers...sounded similar. Mine pulled 360 BHP on the dyno on race gas...I would swag yours is closer to 400.
NICE thank you for sharing
Seems like a pretty healthy beast!
FORD 289 y 302's rules..... High reving engines.... Champions
I am impressed!
This is crazy
Beautiful
Sounds awesome
Excellent!
Webers! Best carb you can put on a engine.
Na, best carb is efi
That would sure be sweet in my 31 Ford ! dayum $$$
Sounds wicked
Yum. Little growler. Sweet
Fook me ! That sounds incredible
SBF for the win! 🔵💙
OMG!!! I SO WANT ONE OF THESE!!!👍😉😄😄
Healthy indeed!
Bad ass🔥🔥🔥⚙️⚙️⚙️👍👍👍
Very nice
Yeah, I'd say that's just about perfect.
well just changed my mind from doing a 302 swap in my falcon.
good
You can just put a 302 crank in your 289 and achieve 13 ci more displacement. More than 13 if the engine is bored over. 331 and 347 stroker kits also fit most 289s same as they do 302s.
I've got a 347 in my fairlane. It would be crazy in a falcon.
looks like a nice little motor! That injection is pricey unfortunately. My old opinion of the small block Ford family has done a 180 over the past few yrs. Think they’re a great choice to build upon.
@@kimmorrison9169 they are stout little powerhouses! they will twist some serious RPM'S & make gooood power!!
Wow theres my engine for my Mustang. I’ve planning on using that induction system after a lot of research and it’s definitely my choice.
I’ve tuned a lot side draft Webber’s and Solex’s and love them. So adjustable. Can we see it in the car soon?
Healthy indeed!!
Weber carburators 😍
Yeah, probably around $2,500 - $3,000 with manifold and linkage! They sure work sweet on the 289!
That sounds pretty healthy.....
A real petrol head blowing the exhaust gasses INTO his shop instead OUT of it...
🤣🤣👍👍👍👍👍👍
Your using the same harmonic balancer I'm using, NASCAR stuff ATI, I got a 8 quart pan on mine...
Meanest small block Ford ever created.
If we ever get it in something. hah. Personal projects take a backseat to company work.
My grandmothers Mustang with a balanced and blueprinted stock internals and an intake, big Holley, headers and HEI could easily outrun my 67 SS Camaro....it was embarrassing.LOL LOL LOL
Hi - loved the video - just wondering what cam you used? Also compression 11.8:1? Just trying to learn this stuff as planning my first build. If higher compression does this require different octane fuel? Am looking at same heads and just want to make sure I match these with the right other components. Thanks for posting a fantastic video. Cheers Jerry
I'm assuming you've already built your engine but yes, the higher the static compression ratio (volume of cylinder at bottom center : volume of cylinder at top dead center) the higher the octane rating you'll need.
Now I'm curious, DID you build your motor and how did it turn out?
Can you just imagine this engine in a stock appearing 1994/1995 Mustang GT convertible with a 5-speed trans.? WOW !
The current plan is to put it in a Fairlane with a T-56. Should be fun
A vintage 289 in a 94-95 Mustang convertible? I admire your deviation from the norm but the thought of that just hurts.
Ideal for a little grocery shopper....
That sounds great. What is it in?
Hey did you ever put this is a Car, What a Nice Engine!
did you ever Dyno it?
Wow!!!
im a chevy big block guy but i kepy my old 66 289 in my garage just because
Sounds beautiful
What is the horsepower on this setup??
Yup in love. Snappy as fuck!
It jumps.
That ram induction setup must make that 289 one nasty little sucker. Powerband 5000 to 9000rpm? What was the setup offered in the FoMoCo perf parts catalog in 66' and is Inglese a better setup?
Question on the "Forged Crank". I contacted SCAT and EAGLE about 5 yrs ago asking about such an animal. They said one does exist in their offerings. I then asked about a custom crank, and was told that they do no make any cranks with less than a 3" stroke. So has this changed or did you get a Forged 302 (3.00" Stroke) crank and have it destroked down to a 289 (2.87" Stroke)? Thanks, Ron
Ohhhhh...it sounds Mad!
Dont touch it again
Excellent job, Smither...but get your hard toe shoes on
I have a 5.4l v8 2 valve in my 99 Ford Expedition. I want to cam it, and still daily drive. Any pointers on a complete set I can order for pi heads? Lmk
That should be in a lemans car
EFI makes everything better.
Those are Webber carburators.
What something like that cost with just a Holley carburetor on Thanks
Is there a video of it in a car?
How much cam do you have in that thing? 🙂
wow
Dam that sounds great! What is it going into? Any dyno results?
Nothing yet! Sitting on the engine stand waiting on the dyno to be finished. Other projects got in the way!
Any sites on the build? Love ta know what parts you used.👍
That makes two of us!
What were the dyno numbers on this engine? And what was the max RPM? I've always wanted to build a 289 with the inglese on it.
Hey Keith. I don't have a number on the hp, as it's never been on an engine dyno and is actually still not installed yet.
Very nice!! Now get it off the stand, in a car, and put it on the street :) Where it belongs!!!
Hmmm 1st start??? No cam break in RPMS 👀🥴☹️, may be short runner? Love the zippy FAST RPMS😊
roller cams need no brake in .
Is it a "K Code" 289?
id love to know the final specs on this motor, since im looking at a similar specs for my 289 lemans based engine.
josh weisgerber weird flex but ok
FYEAH
What a great, ripping sound. Lack of a flywheel help?
@Herman Lipshitz I'd say without a clutch which can be another 8kg . Makes for nice quick rev , hope that's a roller cam ? otherwise not the best run in for a flat tappet ! .
Its the webers that give it that fast response.
cant start without flywheel dumass . now no converter or pressure plate , yes .
😍💘😍💘😍💘😍💘😍💘😍 It's so beautiful! 🥲
Ford should bring back the 289. With today's technology, better materials, it could be a high rev, little beast of an engine.
Good work crew! 👍
Peace and God's blessings to you all.
I think that's what ford intended with the 4.6 v8 if I remember correctly it was a 281 ci v8
Where did you get that engine test stand?
It's an Easy-Run test stand.
Thanks! Very nice!
Eats 8 bowls of Prius for brekky.
How can you be contacted, I have a 1970 Grand Prix 400 motor
How much $$$ for an engine like that?
make an excellent pressure washer
finally a ford engine done right....what are you running for the camshaft??
A lot
where u been , nigeria ?
Bet it will get at least 7 mpg
Camshaft specs?
big .
How much did this build cost?
alot .
This gentleman related to Dave Freiburger?
Not by blood.
@@PowerHungryPerformance thank god . that guy is an idiot .
She sounds VERY angry. Daddy likes
What size fuel line do I need for Chevy big block big hp.800+ with Barla 8stack?
Not sure how much those vary from this setup. May be best to contact Borla directly!
Sounds like a 351 Windsor!😊😊😊
