It's small details like the designers notes with quotes from actual serving members of the military that really take this to the next level. Board looks great and while I think a plastic box for the dice would have been a better upgrade, you can tell just by looking at the newer cardboard one that it is a better quality than the original print. Can't wait for the future of A&A!
Glad you are enjoying it! Thanks for watching!
I played this game with my late father over a decade ago. I have fond memories and even photos recording the moment. It was actually a home-made copy, as it was already sold out at the time. I've even made the dice box. Unfortunately I ended up losing that copy and thought I would never be able to play it again. But I just bought a copy of this new print run! I can't believe it's going to be possible for me to play it again
That's a wonderful story! Thank you for sharing! 🙂
That is what board gaming is all about! Great story!
Just got my game today. Thank you, Dan at Renegade! Gary, your videos are the best!
Awesome! Working on the how-to-play video now!
Thanks for watching!
@@BoardGameNation I am looking forward to it! Hope you can share thoughts on the moves to see some strategies. The World Championship videos were so exciting to watch and learn from the best.
You're very kind. However, Guadalcanal is an entirely different beast. I'm still sorting any kind of strategic thoughts. I'll let you know when I figure it out! 😀
Just ordered it. Didnt even know it was released until i saw your video. Thanks guys!
Our How-to-play video for this game will be out this week!
Thanks for watching!
Love these Renegade reprints
Thanks for watching!
Gary - I love the quality of your videos - simply the best available!
You're very kind. Thanks for watching!
Congrats to anyone preordering this great game. I was fortunate enough to grab a copy back in 2008. Due to a lack of players I started to play it frequently a year ago. In this video from Board Game Nation about Axis & Allies Guadalcanal I posted my complete rule set for Hidden Movement -czcams.com/video/0IVxwmJO0aQ/video.html
Hidden Movement is an optional rule in A&A Guadalcanal, but IMHO it needs some improvement to make movement really hidden. I also introduced Tactical Bombers and Seaplanes into the game. Tactical Bombers were not part of Axis & Allies when A&A Guadalcanal was first published, because they were first introduced with the 1940 Europe and 1940 Pacific games. These two can be combined to Global 1940 and Renegade Games has released these two games as well. Together with larger maps for both 1940 Global and my beloved Anniversary Edition. And I am also looking forward to their new North Africa game. It is really great that Renegade Games brings some fresh air into this game series of World War II games.I hope they will make a reprint of „Axis & Allies Battle of the Bulge“ as well, because this is still on my wish list.
There is a good game tutorial for Guadalcanal by Harsh that is split in two parts.
Part I: czcams.com/video/73HVaPabUfc/video.html
Part II: czcams.com/video/s4s3rLNnYXw/video.html
Thanks for sharing. Ben Harsh does make some fantastic how-to-play videos. However, the Board Game Nation how-to-play video for Guadalcanal will be out soon! We hope you'll check that out!
Thanks for watching!
A new video? My thirst is quenched
Haha! More coming soon! 😀
Thank u so much for the video! Didn't know about Guadalcanal reprint! So picked up that and A&A north Africa (which I've never heard of). And on top that, getting them at a discount. Perfect
Awesome! Thanks for watching!

lol. How you set it up was awesome! Great sound effects.
Haha! We had some fun. Thanks for watching!
Gary, very very cool. Please do a gameplay series on this alternative form of axis and allies combat rules. By the way, how was BB- STL? what was the name of your team? And, will you do any kind of recap like Rich did?
Hey! I am working on a how-to-play for this game now. It will have a play-by-play kind of feel, but we might do a full gameplay video at some point.
The BBR event in St. Louis was a lot of fun! It was great to meet loads of new people and a few that I have only seen in the funny papers. I played with the KC Warmongering Malcontents, and let's just say... I learned a lot. 😀
Even so, honestly, I don't think I know enough about that variant that any recap I could provide would add much value. It was fun, though!
Thanks for checking in!

Man I've been wondering if they were ever going to ship these pre orders. I guess this is a good sign? It's always good to see a Gary video 💕
They should be going out in the next few weeks. Thanks for watching!
my just arrived thank you
Awesome! Enjoy!
Great unboxing video!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Or if you want to sort the guys more than they are extra bags can always be used.
Looking back, I realized the bags are for the cardboard markers (airfields, damage markers, etc).
Thanks for watching!
Great video - thanks for the post! Love the inclusion of the Wildcats instead of P38s.
They are really nice minis in this game. Thanks for watching!
Great video!! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
@@BoardGameNation Thanks for your answer, Gary!! You're a really kind person!! Thanks for your dedicating time for making these great board game videos . Wish you the best! Ah... I hope you'll do an unboxing video for the Anniversary Edition too!!😃
That's definitely in the works as soon as I have the new Renegade reprint. 😀
@@BoardGameNation Fabulous!!
Nice unboxing….. you got my mind wandering with all the customizations I could add
Haha! Looking forward to seeing those. Thanks for watching!
Missed you dulcet tones. Hope you do another playthrough, any A&A game would do.
Haha! Working on it now! Thanks for watching!
Love this channel
And we love you! 😀
Gary - really enjoy your A&A videos. What are the differences between this Renegade print, & the avalon hill print other than the reinforced dice box? Is the rulebook different? Are any of the tokens or plastic pieces different/ improved? Thx!
I can respond to that (Producer of the game, from Renegade). There are three main changes: 1. Airstrip tokens have been modified to show control for US/Japan on either side of the token, and 9 "Damaged" tokens have been added. 2. Some of the unit sculpts have been updated to be more historically accurate for the time and setting of the game. None of the sculpts are totally new. Specifically these sculpts were updated: Axis: Battleship, Aircraft Carrier, Transport, Submarine, Artillery, Anti-Aircraft. Allies: Anti-Aircraft. Also, in the original production the plastic colors of the included Cruisers were swapped, so we corrected this issue. 3. Updated rulebook to add any clarifications and FAQs since the previous printing.
Also, a few minor things that Gary noted in the video, like the plastic bags being re-sealable and the reinforced dice box.
Awesome! Thanks, Dan!
@@danbojanowski2472 thank you!
Love the video's guys! Just a quick question, could you guys do a play trough like you did a couple of months ago for this game and a couple of others like 1914 or Nort Africa (when it is out) who are not played like the WW2 world games?
Yup! We are working on all of those!
Thanks for watching!
@@BoardGameNation Nice!
I remember hating the dice box. Can you just roll the dice regular? I haven't played the game in 15 years
You can roll without the box, but you'll need to keep them in order because the neck of the box determines the casualties. I have seen people use a kind of dice tube, but I think it might affect the randomness of the rolls.
Thanks for watching!
@@BoardGameNation I made my own battle sheet for the box and use color dice for each hit.
Do you still play axis and allies on a regular basis? I live in Memphis and signed up for the emails, but I haven't heard anything about any games happening soon.
I try to, but I've been crazy busy lately. All good things, but a lot. Shannon and I are working on putting something together. What are you looking to play? Love to meet up!
@@BoardGameNation Totally get that! Same here with life right now. I mainly play 1940, alternating between Europe and Pacific, and when I can get people who have the time, playing Global. Not played yet in Memphis with anyone, usually get to play when I visit my hometown, so i'd love to meet up sometime with anyone interested locally.
Looking forward to getting in a game with you! Thanks for reaching out!
I lo e axis and allies. Can never find anyone to play with because it takes so long.
I know what you mean. Try your local game store?
Sweet. New video, but you need Shannon’s knife to open it up rather than your scissors. 😂
Haha! I'll keep that in mind for next time.
Thanks for watching!
Background music very distracting. Not needed at all, detracts from otherwise good content.
We typically only use it to fill otherwise silent moments and in the outro. Was it too loud? Wrong type of music?
Thanks for the feedback! We will keep that in mind for future videos.
Love these Renegade reprints
Thanks for watching (again)! :)
