David, I've been there. During my career as a marine biologist with a state dept of natural resources, we sent many proposals to the National Science Foundation (NSF). The odds of getting a grant averaged around 25%. So, I can share your joy of getting JWST time. As you say, perseverance is the key - well done!!! Your students must be ecstatic!!!
HUZZAH, Dr. Kipping! That is simply supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!! The Joy in your face was utterly infectious! You are clearly over the moon (as it were). ALL the success to you and your colleagues!
Tears of joy. I see them welling up as you speak. I'm holding them back myself. So, so awesome. Telescope time aside; the message about persisting and believing in your dream is paramount. Personally touching; especially right now🙏🙂
As a social science research scientist, I know what it is like to work for years on a project and wait for approval of my application for a significant grant. You are so right... We have to keep pushing! Great job to you and your team! This is fantastic news, and thank you for sharing it with us!
WOW, this is fantastic!! I've been an amateur astronomer for over 40 years and I am particularly fascinated with exoplanets. This is beyond exciting and I'm looking forward to your future videos on what you find around Jupiter's exo-twin!!
I personally find it so endearing how passionate you are about this. Other than what I have learnt from this channel, I know next to nothing about space and astronomy, but seeing your excitement honestley makes me really happy. Can't wait too hear about your findings, congratulations!!
I just realized what a huge smile I have on my face listening to your exciting news!! 😃🎉 Congratulations Dr K, you and your team deserve this exciting opportunity. You give so much to the community. It really does feel fortuitous that you discovered this planet and that it only transits every 3 years. We’ll all be excitedly anticipating your results. Well done 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You brought a tear to my eye today with this amazing news. I’m so happy for you and your team!! Go find not one but four big moons since it’s a Jupiter analogue. Cool worlds to the moon(s)! 🌘
It’s unlikely we’d get all four unless they’re bigger, Io and Europa in particular are just a bit too close to Jupiter, and too small in physical size, to easily resolve. But Ganymede and Callisto look game on, so that would be my best bet.
Congrats Professor K! I learned so much last semester about exoplanets and moons so I am rooting for you!! I’m throwing my confetti fireworks for you today! You’ve earned it! 🎉
So happy for you guys! And extremely pleased that the Cool Worlds Community gave you the support needed to help you persist in your efforts to get the time you needed on the Kepler telescope! 😊😊😊
You are truly inspirational, Dr Kipping! In many ways, and the joy you express over finally getting telescope time on the JWT is contagious. 😊 Makes me exited of what future findings may lurk out there. Which you all the best from Sweden! 👍
Chalk one up for the good guys; and a shirt purchased to help fund the champagne for when you find your your first exomoon; because if you don't find it this time then you will, or the one after, of or after that, until you find your Grail. Keep at it, those moons won't find themselves.
Congrats!!!!!! Such amazing news for you and your team. I can see how the news has just lifted you up as it should. This story is an embodiment of one of the key ingredients of science...persistence. Keep us updated!!!
That's fantastic David! I've been watching your videos for a while, and your tenacity is absolutely infectious. I'm excited with you, and I love the sheer joy in your expression here. Good luck, I wish you the best in your search, and let us know what you find! And remember during this, stay curious, but stay thoughtful. 😉
I'm so thrilled for you !!! I've read an email that started with "We are pleased to inform you." It's a total gut elation experience!!! Congrats & good luck with your exploration!!!! Brilliant!!!!
Omg, Dr. K! Congratulations, I know you will find out amazing stuff. You're one of the go-to figures in Astronomy out there, and rightfully so! I'm so glad to hear this and I wish you the absolute best. You're inspiring.
Congrats! This goes beyond just being granted a wonderful opportunity and fulfilment of a dream, but is also a story about how to overcome failure and disappointment through staying strong, going back to the drawing board, improving and persisting like crazy.
FANTASTIC NEWS!!!! Very well done David! I’m so excited to see the results! I’ve followed your channel for a while and I’m also very interested to see if we can start to find exomoons and see if we can start to find out information about them! After all, the abundance in our own solar system in huge and they are such dynamic and interesting worlds! So happy you finally have been granted telescope time! I remember watching your video a year ago where you were venting your frustrations… I’m sure that we (as followers of your channel) all felt awful for you but also knew you wouldn’t give up!
So exciting. You've been granted the ability to use one of mankind's greatest instruments ever created. Congratulations!!! So excited to see what your team finds. Really looking forward to hearing more about this planet, the detection methods you're using, and more! One thing I am super curious about is how accounting for exomoons affects the Fermi Paradox.
Congratulations, Professor! Just yesterday I was watching the "Bad news" video. I'm so happy for you and I have no doubts that you will find what you are looking for.
Such great news out of nowhere! I've been following your channel for a very long time now, and as a layman your explanations are always so clear and simple to understand - so very glad that you get rewarded with your work in such a prestigious way. :) Can't wait to hear of moons that you've named!
First off I want to say, Congratulations, I believe you do deservethe time on JWST, even if I'm not much more that a laymen trying to learn more about our solar system, galaxy, and even the whole cosmos. I wanted to say that my first exposure to you and this channel was a couple of months ago with the video "Does Quantum Entaanglement Allow For Faster-Than-Light Communication?". Since then I have become addicted to your content. Thank you! Truly thank you. My nephew just turned 13 and watches your content with me and is also a fan of you and this channel. I see a spark in his eyes for learning and for our universe. He is not afraid to ask any question he may. I believe we both have learned quite a bit since the start of my journey intoto your videos. Good luck on your JWST time and I look forward to learning more from tou.
Big congratulations Dr. Kipping, it's wonderful to see some of the work that you have shared with us finally get a chance with the telescope. Looking forward to hearing more about the results!
I was just recently reminding myself of the video you posted a year ago about dealing with disappointment when dealing with a disappointment of my own. This is such an uplifting follow up. I'm so excited for you and your team and us, your viewers, who get to follow along!
Congratulations! I’m really happy for you and your team. Looking forward to hearing more about it. I love your videos, you make learning fun because of how passionate you are. Thank you for the encouragement at the end about continuing to pursue your goals. I needed to hear that today so thank you.
Fantastic! Maybe in a way it's even better it was put off until this year! We can't wait to follow along with you on this journey! Congratulations to you and Ben and the whole lab!
Congratulations! Found myself smiling watching this. Thank you so much for your channel, videos, hard work and for pushing the envelope of the human experience. I hope that you find what youre looking for. Bravo to the whole team.
Congrats!🎉. I'm so excited for you and the team and I remember you bringing up the prospect originally and I didn't know you all were still pushing forward. Pumped you all did and excited to see what comes from the observations!
xD I simply can't not mention that even now, in this moment of absolute joy, Professor Kipping uses his joy to not just be happy for himself and his research, but he formulates a wholesome message on how to succeed. This man stands as an example of what humanity could be, if we were curious and thoughtful and respecting of others. If we ever met extra-terrestrial lifeforms, I'd like Professor Kipping to represent us.
Congratulations! Thank you so much for everything you have taught me, please keep it up with your head held high! I love your passion and im happy that you inspire us and we can inspire you as well😁
Been a tough past few days, and this was the bright moment I absolutely needed! Extremely happy and excited for you guys!!! I can’t wait to see the incredible news of your discoveries!!
I am new to your channel but have already learned so much from your rare talents in teaching, storytelling, and expressing enthusiasm. I am so excited for you! So well deserved!
I feel that sometimes getting a good response can be nearly as "bad" as getting a rejection. Now the pressure is really on to show that the proposal was good and their faith in you is justified, and in this case you can make good use of the 60 hours of JWST time. Fantastic job, to you and everyone else involved. Rooting for you from Australia.
Congratulations. Even more so for not giving up. I truly hope your telescope time with JWST delivers something hugely valuable. Once again, congratulations, you deserve it.
Man. I cant think of many times I've been so actually excited and, quite frankly, emotional and truly happy for someone I've never actually met in person. I know how much this means to you and your team, congratulations! There is no one more deserving. I love how happy you look in this video, you are absolutely beaming and I'm here for it.
A planet as massive at that has bound to have attracted some stuff in it's orbit. Maybe a tyre or an old mattress, but hopefully a moon! Congrats Prof. Kipping, you and your team deserve all the success you get :)
Hearty congratulations, Prof. This opportunity couldn't have gone to a more deserving team! I look forward to coming along for the ride, as you take the greatest advantage of this opportunity.
I've been back here rooting for you guys to get telescope time and I cannot wait to read you and your team's discoveries that you build from the data you get. The fact that it's such a big request and still got granted is super encouraging!
Congratulations!! I'm so happy for you and the rest of your team. Also, thank you for being such a great example of determination and passion in action! Really excited for all of you.
Congratulations! I remember last year's video, I don't think I had ever seen such genuine disappointment on youtube. I could feel it through the screen. And now I can feel your excitement and happiness. Both news made me tear up for different reasons. So happy for you and your team!

I saw the title to this video and I instantly clicked!! I love this channel and I am thankful for all the hard work you put into the videos, podcasts, and information your share with us!
Congrats! The joy and enthusiasm on your face is infectious. Whether you find this planet or not, you have already succeeded. Such great news, pushing the boundaries with JWST is exactly why we built the thing! Wishing you all the very best of luck, I know you all want to hit the jackpot but you already won, just having the time and collecting the data is a win no matter what it shows.
Your channel is so wonderful, and has enough of a following that you could point JWST at anything, and the educational value that we all learn from it, and the future astronomers that arise from it would make the time with it! Congratulations! I can't wait for you to share the knowledge with us!
Congratulations, sir! This is awesome! I'm so hyped to see this development! Looking so forward to seeing what JWST finds! 60 hours is just absolutely amazing!
I do not fully understand how big of a deal this is to be honest, but I just couldn't stop smiling while I was listening to this. I could sense how much this means to you (and probably your studends/team), remembering the video where you talked about being denied the time.

The sheer passion that you put into the charm offensive on CZcams has certainly helped get the public behind you on this amazing project.
CONGRATS. Really hoping for success :) I'm subscribed already - and looking forward to follow the journey of waiting for the data, analysing, reviewing, and publishing the findings
Congratulations David. I've been hoping to hear that this would happen for you guys and us all. I have limited time to follow astronomy current events but love your content on youtube and this news is awesome. Can't wait to find out what the results are when all is said and done.
Your videos were a primary inspiration for my college essay in the states. They've fostered my passion for space and are truly some of the most interesting science content there is on youtube. Huge congratulations to ya man.
So cool man! Excited for you to be able to dive into this! Looking forward to the results!
You are a gem of a man and one hell of a scientist and science communicator. I was a little too young for the era of Carl Sagan on television but have been always riveted by his storytelling and welcoming - for us all to marvel at science, our common heritage of curiosity and experimentation. You are of his lineage taking us from the fireside to the far end of the universe. May you find your special moon and tell us all about it.
❤ Congratulations!
This is great to hear man, super happy to see that you've gotten happy news, your joy brings us joy and I'm interested to learn more about these moons! 😁
CONGRATULATIONS! So excited and well deserved - avid follower here so I’ll definitely be watching for updates!

'Feelin' good for you! Life can be sooo good and so bad. It's nice to see someone, you David Kipping, enjoying the moment.
“Some good news” is quite the understatement. Congratulations, Im so excited for you guys and the science that will be happening!
Your channel is so wonderful, and has enough of a following that you could point JWST at anything, and the educational value that we all learn from it, and the future astronomers that arise from it would make the time with it!
Congratulations! I can't wait for you to share the knowledge with us!
Congratulations!!! I’m so excited for you. And glad you didn’t give up. Can’t wait to hear what you find. Whatever it is, we will all learn something.
Congratulations, sir! This is awesome! I'm so hyped to see this development! Looking so forward to seeing what JWST finds! 60 hours is just absolutely amazing!

Fantastic! Absolutely wonderful. If discovered it would be only fitting to name it after you. Please continue updating us. Very excited!
I am bubbling with joy at your news good people. Looking forwards to the hearing the results....so good, well done guys.
